Katrina-Kareena : friends again?

Bollywood is strange, so are the stars. After listening to what the sweet Katrina Kaif had to say about her, Kareena seems to have forgotten all the rivalry or jealous that was sprouting among them.Recently Katrina presented her compliments on Bebo’s performances and professional attitude.

Listening to this Kareena seems to be quite appreciative and in return wants to thank Katie. Knowing Bollywood, it friendships, its jilts, its rivalries, it would be wrong to say that this is the beginning of a friendship between Kareena and Katrina, but this definitely give positive vibes as both drop weapons.

'I am not a rock star'

Though her debut movie Luck wasn't so lucky for her, Shruti Haasan didn't go unnoticed. The actress who also sang in Soham Shah's movie looked striking though she could have opted for a better launch vehicle.

She spoke to Nithya Ramani about her rock band, her take on love and relationships, and who she thinks is the most dishiest actor in Bollywood. Excerpts: How has life changed since Luck? It hasn't changed. I am as excited and happy as I was the first day I decided to be an artist. I get to meet new people and do fun stuff.

This is your debut. How was the experience from first day to last of shooting Luck? Awesome and nerve-wrecking at times. I was debuting and wondered what I was doing here, if I could pull this off, shooting with creatures that were at any point ready to bite off a limb. It was all in all very exciting to have had that opportunity.

You are a rock star. How did acting come your way? I am not a rock star. I am averse to that word. I am a musician, I play the piano and have learnt all kinds of music. Right now the band is in a transitionary phase and I am looking out for new musicians. I am very excited about the new music that is going to come out.

Being an entertainer, any form of entertainment has always my calling. I was studying music in Los Angeles. I also acted in a few shows and enjoyed it. I realised it was something I could do. I then started thinking about it seriously, started looking at scripts and meeting people.

What are you favourite songs? There have been so many songs in the history of Indian cinema that it will be unfair to choose just a few. What is your take on love and relationships? Love is important and it does make the world go round. And why it is so great is because there are so many different kinds of love. It is a very unique and powerful emotion.

Who are your favourite actors? There are so many. People think I am being diplomatic but I truly cannot pick one. Who do you think are the dishiest actors in Bollywood? I think Shah Rukh Khan. He is magnificent.

It is Sanjay Dutt's birthday today. Do you have anything to say? How was your experience of working with him? I am not the kind who can wish someone on camera. As far as working with him is concerned, it was amazing.

He has been working in this industry for so long and has such a powerful persona that I learnt a lot just from watching him. He is very polite and quiet on the sets. He is very easy to work with. He doesn't look like he is 50. The monsoon is finally here. What is your favourite memory of the rains? I like the rains. I like to sit indoors and read a book. You can also watch The Godfather because it is just a fabulous film ever made.

Sanjay Dutt pooh poohs problems with Imran Khan

On his birthday, which falls on July 29, Sanjay Dutt feels very charitable towards those who have apparently not been kind to him. Shrugging off stories of Imran Khan undercutting his role in Luck, Sanjay says, “Imran is like a little child.

He was very respectful through the two films we’ve done together. He’s a good actor. I wish him luck and I want him to grow into an actor as big as his uncle (Aamir). Imran is too young to create problems for me.”

Sanjay says he did Luck for a lark. “I did it just to help Soham Shah. I really didn’t have the time or date. I told him to just cast me in a small role, which would finish quickly.

In fact the role shaped up bigger than planned. As long as it makes some money and no one loses any, I’m happy.” Hours before his birthday Sanjay is chilled out.

But he has regrets about not being able to be near Amar Singh on his birthday. “I couldn’t even visit Amar Singhji because by the time the visa materialized the surgery was over. My wife Maanyata was there. But I speak to him everyday. He’s out of the hospital now. He sounds better. I’ve seen his health deteriorate during the election campaigns.

God gave me an opportunity to look after my elder brother during the elections. I’m glad I was around. I can’t do ads or work within corporate sectors, because I am a convict.” But cheering up Sanjay says, “I heard Bunty Walia is coming. Everything he does is announced on Facebook. So he has announced he’s coming for my birthday.”

Aishwarya to crack down on the false stories about her private life

Upset over "fabricated" media stories about her private life, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has threatened legal action against those responsible, a statement issued by her publicist said Thursday.

"Certain sections of the press have been behaving in a callous manner and have been putting together articles or pieces without any semblance of truth and furthermore they have been attributing quotes to the actor which are baseless and false.

Previously our client preferred to remain silent to let better sense prevail be it the news when she was married off to a tree or otherwise. This silence should not be misconstrued as a weakness, " the statement read.

The statement was issued to counter an article titled "Career more important than family" by a website where one of the quotes attributed to the actress read:

"If I want to remain in the film industry then I need to stay fit", that implied that she will not have children. The article also stated that her actor-husband Abhishek Bachchan was in agreement with her stand.

"She is one actress who never made any statements that her marriage can wait and she will focus on her career. When she did, she got her family's blessings and got married in the middle of a film and has been a thorough professional even after her wedding, " the statement said.

"We must not forget that besides being a star in every right Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is about a daughter, a wife, and a daughter in law, a symbol of our tradition and she has always believed and practiced values that govern our society. Irresponsible statements about her private life will not be left to grow without a strong rebuttal, " it added.

The statement also warned of strict legal action against those behind such stories about the 35-year-old. "This may be read and understood in no uncertain terms that hence forth we would be forced to take legal recourse in any such event of a piece or article appearing without any credibility or which is an absolute fabrication of one's imagination... We must respect Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for her stand to remain silent on such baseless rumors but it would be wrong to use her name to further a personal cause or career, " it read.

Vidya Balan signed up for Yash Chopras next?

There is a strong buzz in the industry circles that Vidya Balan has been signed by Yash Chopra for his directorial next. It is the same project which was supposed to star Aamir Khan along with Preity Zinta. But while, Aamir is still being non-committal about being approached for the project, other news making the rounds is that Preity has been replaced by Vidya Balan.

Sources are claiming that it is a love story spanning ages, but is completely different to what Chopra’s last directorial effort Veer Zara was. Incidentally, Veer Zara also had its lead pair Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta playing characters both young and old.

Sources further claim that Yash Chopra intends to begin this film by early 2010 and make it a grand Diwali 2010 release. He will be finally directing a film after 6 years since he directed Veer Zara (2004).

While there has been no confirmation from both Vidya Balan or Yash Raj Films yet, we can only imagine right now what crackling chemistry it would be of Aamir and Vidya, and to top it all with romance king Yash Chopra directing it.

Friendship - a hit recipe in Bollywood

Before "Dil Chahta Hai" happened in 2001, romance and action thrillers were ruling the roost in Bollywood.

But the film about three urban youngsters not only proved to be a huge hit, it also brought the theme of friendship back in vogue.

"New York" is the latest film successfully exploring bonding among friends. It comes after last year's three big hits -

"Dostana", "Rock On!" and "Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na" - which also revolved around changing equations among pals.

Filmmaker Kabir Khan, who gave this year's first big hit "New York", said: "Friendship is an interesting human bond and this as a theme lends scope to have many interesting situations and stories. It is a very interesting relationship to explore.

"When you have the theme of marriage, then you might get stuck somewhere but with the subject of friends, the opportunities are immense and many interesting stories and angles can be given to the film," he told IANS.

"However, what is of prime importance is that the film is made well. If the film is not made well then no theme can work, whether friendship or something else," he added. Starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, "New York" narrated the story of three friends.

But Bollywood has experimented with the theme earlier in melodramatic movies like "Dosti" (1964), a sentimental drama on the friendship between two people - one blind and the other crippled - and "Sangam" (1964), where two friends - Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar - fall in love with the same girl (Vyjayanthimala).

Action-oriented films like "Sholay", "Dostana" and "Yaarana" too had friendship as an integral part of the storyline. It was young filmmaker Farhan Akhtar who gave male-bonding a new definition with his superhit "Dil Chahta Hai", which starred Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Saif Ali Khan. Their performances as chilled out urban youth struck the right chord with the multiplex audience.

In 2007, Govinda- and Salman Khan-starrer "Partner", a light-hearted romantic comedy, went on to be a huge box office success. In the recent past, filmmakers have explored the bond successfully in blockbusters like "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Jhankaar Beats", "Masti", "Mirch Masala", "Rang De Basanti" and "Heyy Baby". These films were light-hearted and thoroughly entertained the viewers.

Mumbai-based film historian S.M.M. Ausaja feels people identify with such films and that's why they work at the box office. "Over the years, films on friendship have done quite well, with films like 'Dosti', 'Yaarana' and of course 'Sholay' being landmarks in this genre. The main reason for their success is that people identify with such subjects. When such themes are explored in movies, they mostly make a mark," he explained.

Film critic Omar Qureshi agreed: "Films with which people can identify always work. Everyone can connect with films that revolve around friendships because everyone has a friend. There is no one who doesn't have a single friend.

"When the audience can relate to the situations in the film, they get interested in the story. Thus, friendship films have been hits mostly." Geetika Joshi, a 19-year-old college student, feels films like "Jaane Tu..." or "Rang De Basanti" have more appeal because of the friendship angle rather than out-and-out love stories.

"I like films based on friends more. After all friends are such an integral part of our lives today. I go and watch such films with my pals and have a ball. These are light-hearted and have a fun element," she said. "Films on friends are young, hip and very us, they represent our generation. I love such films," said Uday Goswami, a BPO employee.

Shahrukh ends his cold war with Aishwarya

Shahrukh Khan is all set to end his seven year old cold war with Aishwarya Bachchan. If sources inside the industry are to be believed Shahrukh plans to cast Aishwarya in his next home production. The two stars who had delivered blockbusters like Mohabbatein and Devdas had fallen apart on the sets of Chalte Chalte after Aishwarya was ousted from the movie and replaced by Rani Mukherjee.

It was then being rumoured that Salman Khan who had just been dumped by Aishwarya created a lot of ruckus on the sets. The movie was going nowhere with Salman's behaviour and Shahrukh who was producing the movie finally decided to oust Aishwarya from it. Since then the two stars have not been in talking terms and engaged in a cold war.

But things are now looking positive as the SRK and Ash have decided to bury their hatchets. Recently during Karan Johar's birthday party Shahrukh had apologised to Aishwarya for having wronged her. Later Aishwarya along with Abhishek was seen dancing with Shahrukh and his wife Gauri. The director for the movie hasn't be chosen as yet but the colossal stars will surely be together on the screen.

Negar Khan Set To Steam Up The Jungles Of Malaysia

In other sizzling reality news from around the world, model and actress Negar Khan is slated to be sent to the jungle set of Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao.

The hottest story on Google India, and perhaps the best thing that every happened to the ailing reality show, Khan should spice things up a bit for the weary audience, at least that is what the producers hope any way.

From this writer’s point of view, I am wondering why the hit show Survivor did not get Negar instead of some of the aging starlets feartured in their celebrity versions.

Perhaps American celebs are just whimps? As for Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, the show appears a lot better than some of Bollywood’s other entires. I sure hope Negar fares better than some other models.

The India version of British reality show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here”, this version has had its problems according to the Insider.

Contestants complaining and quitting being the least of the show’s woes, even Negar had initial problems getting her visa straightened out to be on the popular series. Now the forests of Malaysia will play host to Negar, who’s most appropriate prior role may have been as a seductive pole dancer in Double Cross.

The Indian audience will likely be a seduced, given the popularity of the show and Neda in the news today. For Bollywood, and all those TV viewers looking for a little “untamed” entertainment, at least it should be interesting to see if Negar can handle the cuisine so many others complained about. Along with that, watching a lovely model do arduous tasks has to rate high for the show’s targeted demographic, who can start lighting up the SMS voting soon.

For those fans who cannot wait, we thought we would give a preview of Negar from her role as a pole dancer. We will leave it up to the reader’s imagination as to how pole dancing might be employed in the jungle. As for PR moves, the producers of this reality show appear to have come to grips with what their audience wants. At least this is the way it appears as the stories of Negar pile up in Google and Yahoo news.

Rani Mukherjee turns to God for success

One has often heard of Govinda’s obsession for puja’s and superstitions but now we hear that Rani Mukherjee has gone the same way. She is constantly hanging on to superstitions and rituals to keep her anxieties at bay if sources' claims are to be believed.Buzz up!

Rani Mukherjee had been going through bad times. Rani’s father was also not keeping well. However, things are looking upbeats since her next, the Yash Raj Films' production Dil Bole Hadippa opposite Shahid Kapoor is all set for release.

The actress, who was at the peak of her career a few years ago with releases like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black, Yash Raj's Veer Zaara and Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, suddenly seems to have come up against a wall. Her talent is not really in question, but her luck and choice of films is.

After Black, instead of going for a variety of roles which would showcase her talent, Rani Mukherjee chose to stick to Yash Raj banners alone - with films like Laaga Chunri Mein Daag and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Bhansali's Saawariya did nothing to improve matters. The actress has sought divine help to overcome all the obstacles.

Rani is believed to have undertaken a fast on every Thursday for 40 weeks, followed by a pooja at the Sai Baba temple in Shirdi. The actress has already been at it for the last three months. We just hope for her sake that it all works out fine for her. But things just may change and maybe Rani will again become the queen of hearts and the box office.

Bipasha's Hollywood dream comes to an end

Just few days back there were tabloid reports about Bipasha Basu’s first Hollywood project starring Titanic villain Billy Zane, going on floors. But now news has trickled in that the project is being scrapped. It was supposed to begin shooting on July 25th. It is learnt that producer Smita Thackeray had backed out with reasons being cited as personal and professional.

This yet to be titled film was to be directed by David Silverman and was to feature Bipasha in Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft avatar. It was supposed to be shot in Kodaikanal and had actor Rajvirr of Kaise Kahen (2007) fame playing Bipasha’s second love interest. The film was to have Bipasha doing some intense love making scenes with both Billy and Rajvirr. Rumour mills suggest- the choice of Rajvirr as the male lead wasn’t appreciated but Smita Thackeray was adamant about him playing the role.

However now that Smita has backed out from the film, it only means that for now Bipasha’s dream of going international has come to a standstill, at least for now. Though for a long time both Bipasha and her boyfriend John Abraham have been trying to go international, they haven't succeeded.

The veteran actor says he is having the time of his life shooting the movie.

"That's right. I'm supposed to be this 40-year-old rake doing naughty things, like wooing the neighbourhood widow Vidya Balan. The actress, who is there for the shooting of Sajid Nadiadwala’s Houseful with Akshay Kumar, was diagnosed with malaria a few days ago. “Initially, she continued to shoot because she didn’t want to waste the unit’s time,” says a source. Priyanka Chopra in Neelima Azim's next.

Shahid Kapoor's mother Neelima Azim has asked her son's ex-girlfriend Priyanka Chopra to be a part of the film. Interestingly, Shahid is aware of it and apparently, has no objections to his mother's choice.

Neelima and Priyanka met in Priyanka's flat, which is in the same building as Shahid's. Neelima said, "Yes, I met up with Priyanka at her house. She is the only girl in the industry whom I have approached. She fits the role."

Neelima claimed that she offered this role to Priyanka before the star was linked with her son. Explaining the heroine's role in the film, Neelima said, "The heroine appears only in the second half. It's a very vital role. In fact, I discussed two scripts with Priyanka. She liked both of them."

When asked if Priyanka will still be interested in the film since she has broken up with Shahid, Neelima shot back, "I get along very well with Priyanka. It's a very professional, but warm relationship. Of course, it will all depend on who the male actor is. Priyanka is in a certain league. If I get a damn good actor, but not a top star, I don't expect her to step in. But then, she may still sign up due to the fact that she loved the character which I want her to play."

Where Celina Jaitley openly supports the gay community in India, Baba Ramdev has claimed that homosexuality is a disease which he can cure. Both being on opposite camps, it is but natural that both will hurl accusations on each other.

This is what Baba had commented about Celina, “These actresses know nothing about Bhartiya sanskriti.

They stay away from their parents and have no morals. Unke partner har mahine badalte hain.” This comment has obviously offended Celina who is not the one to take anything lying down.

She retorts back saying, “Well, isn’t it strange that this great Brahamachari seems to know more about my sex life then.

I may know myself? I couldn’t be more amused when I heard him making such statements. I really believe though that he himself does not know.

The meaning of true ‘Brahamacharya’.” Celina also answers back on Baba’s comment that she lacks the knowledge of Indian culture. She says, “He has also challenged on my knowledge of ‘bhartiya sanskriti’. Well, this is my take on it:

Imran wants to maintain a cordial equation with Shah Rukh

Despite being aware of the cold relationship his Aamir mamu shares with superstar Shah Rukh, actor Imran Khan says that he shares a very cordial bond with the King Khan.

Imran doesn’t seem to care about their attempts of lashing out at each other vying for the top spot in the industry, as he admits that he wants to maintain a good equation with SRK.

Imran says, "SRK and I belong to the same industry and my relationship with him is just as normal as it can be with anyone.

He has been very cordial to me, regardless of what has been written about him and Aamir. I know that between the two everything`s fine.”

Being someone from Aamir’s camp, we hope Imran is prepared for the consequences of a pro-SRK comment. Especially.

After his last two debacles, ‘Kidnap’ and ‘Luck’, it seems that only Aamir can save him with another ‘Jaane Tu..’!

Aishwarya set to look old in Action Replay

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai would be looking old in her next coming flick Action Replay. Akshay Kumar is said to be.

In the lead role of this Vipul Shah’s directorial venture. According to the reports, Ash is playing a historical character in the movie.

To give Ash, a real look Vipul Shah hired a Hollywood make-up artist. Shah says, “It took us six hours to get her look right. We started shooting at three in the morning and the shooting went on till 7 a.m.”

Before this, Aishwarya threw tantrums about getting her make-up done by someone other than her own make-up man, but it didn’t work.

About the controversies, Shah said in a statement, “Ash did her old age make up with Paul, a Hollywood make-up artist.”

He added, “When we did it the first time, it didn’t work out well. When you are doing age make-up, you can’t correct it so it had to be removed fully and done again.” Vipul Shah, who made movies like Waqt - The Race Against Time and Singh Is Kinng, says the actress shot the scenes patiently.

Mallika Sherawat dares to show her butt

And then there is Mallika Sherawat baring her butt. In not just one scene, but a few of them. I am talking about Mallika’s film Hissss.

Ratan Jain, who is a part of the film, he tried to wiggle his way out by saying, “I am only involved with Hissss in the capacity of a financer. You can talk to Mallika’s bother, Vikram Lamba, who is the producer of the film.”

Vikram totally denies that Mallika has exposed her butt in Hissss. “We have used a body double,” he tells us. Did the otherwise bold actress develop cold feet when asked to do the scene, we wonder. “There’s nothing like that,” Vikram shoots back. “Jennifer Lynch (the director) took a call on the matter and decided that we should use a body double.”

Hissss is the story of a naagin with a vengeance agenda, played by Mallika. The naagin shape-shifts into a beautiful woman to locate her mate who has been captured and creates chaos in the city, and it is this naagin which Irrfan Khan, as a cop, must also capture.

LUCK nahiiiii UNLUCK

Luck' looks at the world of human gambling where kingpin Musa (Sanjay Dutt) employs luck-stricken individuals as betting objects and dares them to fight their own luck to survive.

Their lives are put on the line when Musa challenges them to perform death-defying stunts for big money.

Musa’s annual betting game begins in South Africa when his partner-in-crime, Laakhan Tamaang (Danny Denzongpa), handpicks 20 members from across the globe who have a proven record of extreme luck.

For 20 days, Musa bets on the fate of Ram Mehra (Imran Khan), a middle-class guy who needs to compensate 20 crores his late father had lost in the stock market, Ayesha (Shruti Haasan).

A disturbed girl, retired Major Jabbar Pratap Singh (Mithun Chakraborty), who needs money for his ailing wife, Shortcut (Chitrashi Rawat), an optimistic Pakistani camel racer girl, and Raghav (Ravi Kishan), a rapist.

The bidding begins, and what follows is a series of fatal ‘fear factor’ games in which all of their lives are put into jeopardy - they jump off helicopters and are locked underwater with sharks. The players are taught to be fearless and solely rely on their luck. As Musa says, “the only truth about luck is that it changes under given circumstances.”

With millions at stake, the participants must conquer the hurdles raised by Musa to win this game of money, betrayal, and the biggest addiction of betting. Now how far their luck goes and who wins the final obstacle is revealed through a twist at the end of the film.

Dint worked- While you are hooked in the beginning sequence of the film, the middle portion slows down and heavily relies on character establishment, which eventually becomes boring. It’s really post-interval when all the action begins.

There are few light moments but not enough to keep viewers hooked. For a thriller, one would expect a few more twists and turns to make things more exciting. The only twist in the tale comes in the climax and involves Ayesha’s identity. Things only pick up towards the pre-climax.

Soham Shah’s scores high with casting since all the characters seem to fit the bill pretty well. Sanjay Dutt has mastered the ‘bhai-type’ roles and plays it off once again. Imran Khan strikes a chord with the audience once again and this time, his impressive back-breaking stunts such as jumping from a helicopter on to a burning train keep the viewer at the edge of their seat! Debutante Shruti Haasan’s confidence translates onto the screen and she delivers an overall good performance.

Riya and Raima have catfights in Nauka Dubi

In Bollywood, while one keeps on hearing about catfights between two heroines, but this one is an unheard of ever before.

This is possibly the only sister jodi in Bollywood, Riya Sen and Raima Sen, both of whom will be seen sharing screen space together for the first time in Rituparno Ghosh's Nauka Dubi.

Apparently, Rituparno had approached Riya and Raima for the film at the same time and both of them even received the script together.

They were offered two very diverse roles and both of them had no qualms playing the characters. If sources are to be believed, then, Riya initially thought Raima's character had a lot more prominence and had much more scope and dimension to it as compared to hers. But being a thorough professional and a doting sister, Riya chose to go ahead with the role she was offered, as it was extremely challenging.

What's interesting about the entire episode is that both the actresses are playing roles very contrary to their public image. Our well placed sources revealed that while Riya Sen will be seen in a complete de-glam avatar, Raima will be playing a sophisticated woman.

Speaking about her experience of working with Riya, Raima said, "It was nice to watch her do such a complex character. She was so easy and comfortable on the sets and with the director. Everyone pampered her silly! This is the first time I've played such a mature character in Rituda's film. I play the character of a learned and sophisticated woman who holds her own in any situation. It's quite a contrast from Riya's character who plays a naïve village belle."

Riya stated, "Raima pampered me silly on the sets. Right from organizing the best make up vans and acquainting me with the staff in Kolkata, she was always a phone call away and kept everything prepared for me! Sometimes I felt I was treated like a baby, it felt like my first film." Talk of being life-time members of the mutual admiration society!

New woman in Shahid Kapurs life?

Not many know if Shahid Kapur’s ‘serial-dater’ tag is justified or purely based on speculation, but reports about his liaisons just don’t end. While post-Kareena the young actor has not acknowledged having a girlfriend, gossip has never stopped.

Vidya Balan, Sania Mirza, Priyanka Chopra - he’s said to have gone from one woman to the next rather rapidly.

And, just as rapidly, he has reportedly moved on to his latest woman – Anushka Sharma of “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” fame.

Shahid’s relationship with Priyanka has made enough news off late, with the two opposites said to be perpetually on the brink of a split. It’s now being said that they have parted ways.

In fact, the souring of the relationship is apparently even coming in the way of the promotion of their film “Kaminey”, scheduled to release on August 14.

Both are said to be avoiding joint appearances at promotional events. Meanwhile, it’s being said that Shahid is getting close to Anushka, with whom he’s shooting for a Yash Raj film, directed by actor Parmeet Sethi.

By the way, according to an astrologer, Shahid-Priyanka is potentially a weak match wherein ego issues and conflict of power are most likely. Their relationship has little prospects and even if they are dating, it will all be over by the end of this year, it’s predicted.

“It is after a long time that I will be united with my six sisters. I don’t know what we may do together on that day,” she said. Bollywood actress Rakhi using ancient practice of swayamvar to modernize India?

Travelers to India are not accustomed to seeing images of naked or barely-clothed Indian women. Until very recently, even showing a couple kissing in a Bollywood movie would spark huge controversy in this largely-Hindu country.

But the times are changing in India. Even nudity is coming to Bollywood films. One of the actresses at the forefront of the sexual revolution in India is Rakhi Sawant. Her nude scenes in movies have caused controversy and she was arrested on obscenity charges for gestures she made while wearing a skimpy costume in a stage show.

Rakhi now is the star of a hit reality TV show in India, "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar," in which she is choosing a husband from 16 suitors. It is based on the ancient Indian practice of swayamvar in which the father of a girl of marrying age would seek suitors for his daughter. The suitors would gather together and the girl and the family would then choose the groom from among them, sometimes requiring them to perform various tasks displaying their suitability as a husband. Eventually, the girl would place a garland on the winner and a marriage ceremony would be held immediately.

Arranged marriages are still common in India, with the bride often having little input in the selection process. However, more and more young people are ignoring tradition and opting to select their own mate.
Rakhi is calling the shots in her version of swayamvar, without parental support. She has narrowed the list of suitors down to three, with Canadian businessman Elesh Parjunwala considered the front runner to receive the garland in the show’s August 2 finale.

So will she move to Canada if she selects Parjunwala? “After the marriage, my husband and I will go back to our respective work, wherever it takes us,” she told the Times of India. “And I am certainly not ready to give up my career.”

Rakhi got her start in Bollywood as an “item girl.” The item girl is often a scantily-clad dancer appearing only in a film’s “item number,” a musical scene which may or may not advance the plot of the film. Rakhi does not shy away from being referred to as an item girl.

“Why should I be ashamed of being called an item girl? Do you know what is the meaning of being called an item girl? It means you are beautiful, you have a great figure and you are a fabulous dancer,”

Battle of Bollywood Giants- Bachchan Vs Khan Vs Kapoor

It is going to be a battle worth a watch as three biggies are all set to clash on the Republic Day weekend. Amitabh Bachchan's Rann, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots and Ranbir Kapoor’s Rajneeti are slated now to release on January 22nd 2010.

Ramu’s Rann was earlier planned for October 2nd release date but following the censorship issues about his Jana Gana song he seems to have decided to push the release ahead. Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots starring Aamir, Kareena Kapoor, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi was slated for a December 25th 2009 release date but again with the dates shuffling post the two months strike, it won’t be possible for Aamir to make a Christmas Day hat-trick. Rajneeti on the other hand was always slated for a January 22nd release date. This Prakash Jha film is carrying excellent reports and also stars Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar and Arjun Rampal in it.

A trade insider tells, “It will be battle royale no doubt about it even if one of these films chicken out. Each film has its strong points and worthy contenders.”

Another trade analyst says, “Though they may clash into each other, with the extended weekend they would get with the Republic Day holiday each one will manage to get their required space. But what a feast it would be for the audience!”

Wow, its Amrita Rao!

We are talking about Amrita ‘Wow’ Rao whose sensuous new looks in her latest film Short Kut — The Con Is On have taken the industry by a storm. And after scorching the screen with her blazing new avatar, the hottie’s ready to make an even bigger splash with Abbas Mustan’s Life Partner in which she will be seen in a sizzling cameo looking hotter than ever before. BT sneaked in on the sets to catch the actress’ new look...

Abbas Mustan seem to be totally fida over your sizzling looks in Life Partner...
It’s always a pleasure working with filmmakers of their calibre. And, as for the looks, well you can only expect the hottest from their films, right?

So how hot is it going for the new sex symbol in Bollywood?
I don’t know about being a sex symbol, but yes — I haven’t stopped getting compliments. And I am simply overwhelmed with the response.

They must be quite a change from the ones you’d been getting for your last performance as the rustic village belle in Welcome to Sajjanpur?
As an actress these are just a few of the many facets that I got to reveal on screen and I am glad that the audiences have accepted both looks equally well.

Veteran painter MF Hussain — a self-confessed fan — pointed out that from being the girl-next-door, you’ve become the hot-girl-next-door...
I really believe that girls-next-door can be hot and sensuous, too. On screen I may be doing sexy roles, but I am never going to ditch being a girl-next-door. Because that’s who I am even today in real life. In reel life, yes, I am still waiting to discover many more facets there are to me as an actor

Has the queue of filmmakers wanting to sign you just got longer?
Oh yes, but I’m in no hurry to sign everything coming my way. I refuse to join the rat race by doing meaningless cinema in a bid to reach the top. I want to leave behind some timeless performances that earn me appreciation as an actress, rather than garner compliments just for my looks.

Salman Khan to Fight a Lion in VEER!!

Salman Khan, the macho man of bollywood who has thrashed baddies and goons on the celluloid for umpteenth time, is all set to wrestle with a real lion for the first time in his upcoming mega- budget flick ‘Veer.’

Salman Khan plays a nineteenth century warrior in the film and this particular scene has him protecting a British beauty, who is in the jungle on a hunting mission.

The character of British beauty is being essayed by Liza Lazarus, Miss UK Universe 2008. Salman Khan comes to Liza’s rescue in the film when she is attacked by a lion during this hunting sequence.

Salman not only fights with the lion but also successfully saves the gorgeous beauty, which ultimately gives a new twist to the whole story of the film. The whole shooting of this sequence is likely to take around three days of time from Salman Khan and Liza Lazarus.

However, the location to shoot such a scene with Salman Khan and the lion is yet to be finalized. Till now, producer Vijay Galani has not been able to pin point the location for the shoot, as it requires a state-of-the-art facilities as well as a trained lion to fight the macho Khan.

But producer Vijay Galani is clear about one thing that it will not be shot in India and the whole unit will travel to some exotic location for the shoot. On the question of Safety of lead players Salman Khan and Liza, the producer reveals that rather than dreading the prospect of facing a lion, Sallubhai is excited about the shoot and wants the day to come sooner than later. The shooting is likely to take place next month.

It may be recalled that before Salman Khan fighting a lion in VEER, it was the original He-man of bollywoodSalman Khan to Fight a Lion in VEER!! Dharmendra, who had treaded this path in his films ‘Maa’ in 1976 and ‘Kartavya’ in 1979. In fact, Dharmendra, too, saved the damsel in distress in his film ‘Kartavya’, and the damsel was none other than gorgeous bollywood actress Rekha.

Salman Khan has been deeply involved with every aspect of the film and it is said that even the script had been written by him.

The story is very close to Sallubhai’s heart and he wants the film to succeed at all cost. As the film belongs to British era of India, a big portion of the film has been shot around Buckingham palace in London.

Besides Salman Khan and Liza Lazarus playing lead in ‘Veer’, the film also has Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan, Jackie Shroff, Aryan Vaid and Neena Gupta playing important roles. The film is being directed by Anil Sharma of Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar’ fame.

It seems Sallubhai is on an experimentation spree with his looks. For example, while Salman Khan will be seen in a nineteenth century warrior avatar in ‘Veer’, he is going to sport a thick moustache for his upcoming flick ‘Dabang’, wherein he plays a negative character for the first time.

The film is being produced by Arbaaz Khan and directed by Abhinav Kashyap. The film will also see the debut of Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha opposite Salman Khan.

"It's the only script I've liked in recent months. I can't tell you much about the film's plot. But when I heard the script, I jumped.

I've been hearing a lot of scripts because I've really not been sure about what to do after Ashutosh Gowariker's 'What's Your Raashee?'.

"When I heard the script for Uday's film, I got so excited. It was....so beautiful! Any actress' dream role.

I reacted as a member of the audience," Priyanka told IANS. Uday was last seen in the 2006 movie "Dhoom 2" and is now back in action with "Hook Ya Crook" and "Pyaar Impossible".

Uday, who forayed into films with his 2000 home production "Mohabbatein", worked on the script for nearly a year before asking pal Jugal Hansraj to direct it. "Pyaar Impossible" apparently has a plotline echoing "Notting Hill" about the relationship that grows between a star, played by Julia Roberts, and her fan Hugh Grant.

Priyanka and Uday are not exactly friends. "Uday and I have bumped into each other socially. I know him. But not well enough to call him a friend," said Priyanka. It's rumoured that before "Pyaar Impossible" Priyanka was offered the chance to do a cameo in a song with Shah Rukh Khan in Yash Raj Films' "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi". An offer she declined since she had to share the song with three other leading ladies.

"Not true," corrected Priyanka. "I've done a song with Shah Rukh in 'Billu Barber'. And there're two other songs with other actresses (Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor). I was never offered 'Rab Ne...' So this film with Uday will be my first Yash Raj movie. So it's special on many counts," said the actress. Most Yash Raj watchers also feel screenwriting is a giant step for Uday towards turning director. In David Dhawan's "Hook Ya Crook", Uday teams up with his "Dhoom" co-star John Abraham.
