As a kid, I would buy the biggest rakhi available in the market and tie it on my brother's hand. I think it is the best Hindu festival and the sentiment is beautiful.
I love that India has this amazing tradition of rakhi. We already have a close-knit family culture but rakhi cements the bond between brothers and sisters. In contemporary age, with its manic pace and increasingly nuclear families, it serves to remind us about integrity, loyalty and love.
