Anurag says, Don't worry be Barfi!

Even with his latest movie "Barfi!" out of the Oscar race, Anurag Basu is not disappointed. He feels better films have made it to the top nine.

"It's okay. I am not disappointed. All the other films are so good, so I have no complains," Basu said on the sidelines of an event at the Tata Memorial Hospital here Tuesday.

"Barfi!" was India's official entry for the best foreign language film category at the 85th Academy Awards this year.

The film, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as a deaf and mute boy and Priyanka Chopra as an autistic girl, is no longer in the run for the award.
Of the 71 films that qualified for the Oscars from across the world, nine have been shortlisted. These will further compete to make it to the final five.

The nine films are "Amour" (Austria), "War Witch" (Canada), "No" (Chile), "A Royal Affair" (Denmark), "The Intouchables" (France), "The Deep" (Iceland), "Kon-Tiki" (Norway), "Beyond the Hills" (Romania) and "Sister" (Switzerland).

The final list will be announced Jan 10.

Anurag Basu's next to star newcomers?

'Barfi!' director apparently wants to cast new faces for his next film as most stars in Bollywood have their timetables full

Ever since Anurag Basu made Barfi!, he has been in the news. Not only is his film battling for a slot at the Oscars, the director has already signed Ranbir Kapoor again for another film. But surprise, surprise! For his next film, Anurag apparently is looking to cast comparatively fresher faces.

Sources say that the reason behind Anurag's decision could be the fact that the current crop of Bollywood actors has a rather crammed professional timetable.

A friend of the filmmaker says, `Today, if you want to make a film with an established actor, you will have to wait for at least six to eight months to get their dates for the project.

Anurag is almost ready with his next film and no wonder that he wants to cast newer talent. That way, he can finish his film faster.

Ghum station from Barfi! to be used in new film

Darjeeling's Ghum railway station that appeared in Anurag Basu's film will also feature in Divya Kumar's next

For tourists heading to Darjeeling, the Ghum station is a must-visit destination. And after working on Anurag Basu's Barfi!, scriptwriter Sanjeev Dutta feels that the world famous train station is his lucky mascot. And that is the reason why he convinced director Divya Kumar to shoot her upcoming film at the Ghum station.

A source says, Dutta explained to Divya why he loved the spot so much. Divya likes to explore different places so she immediately agreed to go and do a location recce there. She ended up liking the location and is now going to shoot a sequence there.
Divya is currently in Darjeeling and is busy finishing the pre-production on her film. She says, My film is set in contemporary times. So even though I am shooting at the same place, my set-up will be completely different.

Box Office: Gangs Of Wasseypur II failing at the BO?

Anurag Kashyap's gangster film's second installment fails to get off to a flying start

Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur II has not had the flying start that it was expected to have, after the buzz of the film's part one raised expectations. However, the film has managed to collect around Rs 16. 3 crore in its first five days. The producers of the film claim that the film has been made in Rs 13. 5 crore and going by that, the film seems to have recovered its money.

On the other hand, Jism 2, which had a flying start largely due to the presence of adult content star Sunny Leone, did not bring any cheer for its investors during the weekdays. Jism 2 after a Rs 21 crore weekend ended up at around Rs 25 crore after the entire week.

The second weekend saw it further collect Rs 2. 5 crore. Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum has touched the figure of Rs 45 crore after its third weekend.

Atul Mohan, trade analyst said, `Gangs has fallen short of expectations as compared to its part one. Too many films released as well and there is already a pre-release buzz of Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger. This in turn has affected Gangs II.

We in the trade expect Ek Tha Tiger to be the fastest film to get into the Rs 100 crore club. On the other hand Jism 2 did not do well after its initial weekend. `

The buzz of Ek Tha Tiger is too powerful and all eyes are now on the Salman-Katrina Kaif starrer. With the hype consistently building up around the film, will it manage to create a Rs 200 crore club? Only time will tell.

Barfi not a silent film, says Anurag Basu

Filmmaker Anurag Basu says his forthcoming movie 'Barfi', which got dealyed for several reasons, may have disabled characters in lead but it is not a "silent film" neither the theme is "dark" or "grim".

"I never wanted to make a silent film or something. I wanted to make a film with an easy story that people understand. There are few dialogues in the film, and this is its speciality. I had such nice actors who could convey so much without saying anything," he said.

Basu feels people will get answer to their questions when the film will hit theatres Sep 14.

"The entire film is a happy film. When everyone told me that I was making a grey film, I kept quiet because I knew I was making a film which was happy and commercial. This is people's perception that when you make a film with different characters, the film is dark and grim. I am waiting for the film to come and answer your questions," he added.

Ranbir Kapoor will be seen playing a fun loving deaf-mute boy, while Priyanka Chopra features as an autistic girl and "Barfi" also marks Telugu actress Ileana D'Cruz foray into Bollywood.

The trailer is more focused on Ranbir, and a few glimpses of Priyanka. Explaining this, Basu said: "This is the first trailer we have made. As we need to do so many promotions, so I wanted to tell the story slowly. I didn't want to reveal everything in the first trailer."

"Barfi" is co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor.

Why is the film coming out so late?

"There were many reasons to push release date. My one schedule in September (last year) got cancelled. Re-shooting that schedule took time. Other than that, even Ronnie (Ronnie Screwvala) thought this was the right day for 'Barfi'. I also told him that I will be ready with the film post August 15, so they decided this date," he said.
