Look who's going the Mahie way?

Buzz is actress and Tigmanshu Dhulia are quite close as she has been cast in his film once again

With Tigmanshu Dhulia signing the actress once again, this time for an item number, sources say there could be more than what meets the eye!

The fact that Tigmanshu Dhulia considers Mahie Gill his muse is not new. The director first worked with Mahie in Saheb Biwi aur Gangster and then again in its sequel.

If rumours are to be believed, Tigmanshu has once again cast Mahie in his next, this time in an item number. This has led to some tittle-tattle about the filmmaker's alleged closeness with the Punjabi kudi. In Tigmanshu's next starring Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, Mahie will be grooving to an item song.

Producer Rahul Mitra says, In fact, Mahie was Tishu and my first choice for the song. Not only that, when we met choreographer Ganesh Acharya to discuss the song, we ended up discussing Saheb Biwi aur Gangster. Even Ganesh thought Mahie would be the right choice for the dance number.
One may recall that director Ram Gopal Varma is famous for giving movie breaks to many of his muses (read love interests). Even Sallu is known to give recommendations for his many 'close friends' to be a part of his reality show Bigg Boss. After all, mixing business with pleasure is not an alien concept in B-Town.

An industry birdie chirps, The chemistry that Mahie and Tigmanshu share is undeniable. The actress' knees turn to jelly at the mere mention of Tishu. Something could be cooking between the two. Well they say, where there is smoke, there is fire!

Mahie will shock everybody with her image makeover in Zanjeer

Designer Pria Kaataria Puri, who is making her foray into Bollywood with styling up actresses Priyanka Chopra and Mahie Gill for the remake of 1973 film "Zanjeer", says she is doing the project just for director Apoorva Lakhia, who is "a very dear friend".

"I am finally stepping into Bollywood with this film and I am very excited. I have been approached long back to do Bollywood movies but I was not interested. Apoorva Lakhia is a very dear friend and he literally hounded me and convinced me do this film, " Puri told on the sidelines of the second day of the India Resort Fashion Week (IRFW) Thursday.

Amit Mehra is producing the film, which was originally made by his late father Prakash Mehra in 1973 with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.

Priyanka is playing the female lead in the film that also stars Mahie and southern star Ram Charan Teja who is stepping into Big B's shoes.
Giving a brief idea about what she is styling for both the female characters, Puri said that Priyanka will be seen in a modern avatar and Mahie will shock everybody with her image makeover in the film.

"Priyanaka is playing a modern Mala so we put things together keeping in mind the director's vision for her. For Mahie, the audience will be quite surprised and shocked to see her because this film is a total makeover for her. You will not recognize the old Mahie, " she said.

The designer travelled a lot to source the clothes for Priyanka.

"I sourced Priyanka's clothes from everywhere around the world. From Geneva, Paris, Italy to Kuwait, I travelled a lot, " said Puri.

Talking about the experience working with both the actresses, she said it was lovely.
"Priyanka is a seasoned style icon, also she is now an international celebrity. She is someone who is not only glamorous but also strong from inside. She knows what she wants and that for me, was a bigger challenge... to work with someone who knows what she wants. Mahie, on the other hand, was very easy to design for. She gave me the creative freedom, " she said.

For IRFW, the designer showcased a collection that was inspired by Picasso's paintings. There were lot of bright colours used on the garments that varied from kaftans and tunics to dresses.

It's Sexy Mahie v/s Curvy Mahie

Actress to portray distinctly different looks in her two upcoming films

Mahie Gill has been on a yo-yo diet. The actress has been following a cyclical pattern of repetitive loss and gain of body weight. As she is shooting for two films simultaneously, one that requires her to be fit as a fiddle and the other a slightly heavy look, Mahie has been maintaining her body shape according to the shoot schedules.

In Tigmanshu Dhulia's sequel, she has a rustic, yet royal look. The filmmaker has asked her to gain weight to suit her character in the film.

While in Apoorva Lakhia's remake of a 1970s Amitabh Bachchan film, she plays an extremely glamourous character the one that was essayed by Bindu in the original. As she will be seen in a sexy avatar, the director has told her to be in shape to carry off the skimpy outfits.

Says a source, She has been following a diet to lose and gain weight to suit her two diverse roles. Recently she also had to be in top shape to shoot for the cover of a men's magazine.

Adds the source, The most difficult part about shooting for these two films is not only that they are being shot in different cities but maintaining the drastically different looks in both the projects.

It could take a toll on her health but she is balancing both with a proper diet and exercises with professional help. But she does not seem to mind as both films are giving her a chance to portray diverse roles.

I used to drink vodka at 8 am: Mahie Gill

Some actors and actresses leave no stone unturned to fit perfectly into the shoes of their on screen characters

In Tigmanshu Dhulia's upcoming film, Mahie Gill's character had to appear drunk in some scenes. To make sure she looked her part, the actress apparently started drinking at 8 in the morning.

Our source says that Mahie herself came up with the idea of becoming drunk in real for the scenes.

At times I used to drink vodka at 8 am and get high on it. Though the weather was so hot in Gujarat, the crew had a ball of a time seeing me drinking and getting high early morning, says Mahie.

Meet the very Lusty and Horny Mona Darling

The new-age Zanjeer just got a lot sexier. Mahie Gill who plays the new-age vamp Mona Darling, done to seductive heights by Bindu in the 1973 version of Zanjeer, flew to Bangkok to shoot some of the funniest sex scenes of her life.

Apparently Mahie plays an extremely libidinous Mona who has the constant hots for the villain Teja played by Prakash Raj.

But somehow, we hear, Mona doesn't...er get it.

When questioned about character's coitus interruptus Mahie laughed, `That's right. I play a very horny Mona Darling. I'm constantly lusting after Prakash Raj. But every time we are close to doing 'it' something or the other happens to spoil it. So eventually I am a very lustful but frustrated Mona.
The director Apoorva Lakhia has re-written the Mona-Teja scenes beautifully. With due respects to Binduji and Ajitji we couldn't play the roles the way they did 40 years ago. Zamana badal gaya.

What was seen as sexy and seductive back then is no longer so. Apu has made our characters constantly on the edge of sex and never quite getting there. It's actually far more interesting than just tumbling into bed. `

For Mahie who has been doing torrid love-making scenes from the time she came in Dev D, this is quite a departure from her usual roles.

`Ironically when I am playing a full-on seductress I am not doing bed scenes, ` laughs Mahie who is thrilled to bits by the role's glamour quotient. Her clothes are being designed by the classy non-filmy Pria Kataria Puri.

Says Mahie, `So far I've never been dressed up to be glamorous. Apu Lakhia had a special glamorous look in mind for me. He didn't want it to be a filmy glamour. He wanted me to look very different from the usual vamps and seductresses. Believe me when I got into Pria's clothes I felt different. `

Mahie shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu for Zanjeer. And she learnt Telugu from scratch for the part. Prakash Raj was also a great help.

`There was a Telugu teacher for me who accompanied me to Bangkok. He was there on location to make sure I got the punctuation right. But Prakash was also a big help. He told me where to take a pause while delivering my Telugu lines.

Movie Review: Carry on Jatta is a family entertainer

Cast: Gippy Grewal, Mahie Gill, Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Khushboo Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Kanwaljit Singh, Sunita Dheer, Neena Cheema, Jaggi Singh, Rana Ranbir and B.N. Sharma

Director: Smeep Kang

Rating: ***1/2

Carry on Jatta is about a bunch of misfits whose misconception about each other’s backgrounds end up in a series of chaotic, yet comic outcomes. It is an out an out comedy of marital mixups.

Advocate Raminder Bajwa (Jaswinder Bhalla) stays with his two sons Goldie (Binnu Dhillon) and Sunny (Gippy Grewal). The family is shown owning a huge house and constantly looking for a tenant for their 1st floor. Advocate Bajwa is a widower and is constantly getting into verbal spats with his elder son, Goldie. These spats turn out to be be quite comical.

While Goldie is married to Preeti (Khushboo Grewal) and assists his dad in his practice, Sunny runs a brick kiln business. Rocky (Gurpreet Ghuggi) is Sunny’s good friend and good for nothing son of Police Inspector Sikander Tiwana (B.N.Sharma). Rocky’s only aim in life is to get married to a rich girl, Nikki (Sunita Dheer), daughter of Satwinder Dosanjh (Kanwaljit Singh).

Dosanjh's son (Rana Ranbir) is always seen pestering his father to send him to Canada. And Sunny is smitten by Mahie (Mahie Gill) who he meets at his friend's sister's wedding. Sunny is constantly chasing Mahie and overhears the converstaion of Mahie with her friends where she mentions about marrying someone who doesn't have a family.

To win over Mahie, Sunny indulges in a conversation with Rocky to prove to Mahie that he is an orphan. Even though he wins over Mahie and it results in a love story which takes an interesting turn when he is forced to marry her in court on the insistence of Mahie and her brother.
When Sunny leaves for work, Mahie goes out to look for a rented accommodation and ends up selecting Bajwa's house. When she informs Sunny about her selection, Sunny is flummoxed and he tries to make her walk out of the deal.

When he fails to convince Mahie, he presents his friend Rocky as the husband of Mahie to his family. They connive to use every tactic so that his family may not agree to housing the couple. This results in Bajwa giving them one month notice. So Sunny is forced to live in his own house as a tenant.

Even Rocky has to move in the house as Mahie's husband. Sunny and Rocky trade places very convincingly which result in very hilarious situations. To add insult to injury, Rocky convinces Sunny to show his father, Advocate Bajwa as Rocky's father, without their knowledge, as his Inspector father refuses to meet Nikki's parents as Rocky is good for nothing.

However, the twists and turns results in Rocky convincing Nikki to marry her in court. To make things more complicated, he tells Bajwa that his son has married Nikki. The family of Bajwa accepts Nikki as their daughter-in-law. There is total bedlam as the guys keep hiding their wives and family from each other till the climax.

This results in utter confusion and amazing comic situataions. The drama ends after a huge chase popularised in the vintage "Carry On" movies. The film ends on a high note after a 22 minutes long climax.

The high point of the movie is its crisp hilarious dialogues by Narinder Kathuria who quit Comedy Circus to pen very entertaining dialogues.

Some songs of the movie songs could have been avoided which were carried since Gippy Grewal is more popular for his singing than acting. This resulted in the first half beinga little drab but the second half more than makes for it.
Though the lead pair was good, the movie was carried on their shoulders by Jaswinder Bhalla, B.N. Sharma and Binu Dhillon. Binu's timing and dialogue delivery was very good and Bhalla is a seasoned actor and comedian. Rana Ranbir was a misfit and Ghuggi's performance was not brilliant especially in the drunkards scene. The lead pair looked good though Mahie was under utilised and her dancing left much to be desired.

All respect for the director, Smeep Kang of "Chak De Phatte" fame for presenting Punjabi humour without any vulgarity. This movie must be watched as it is a family entertainer and out and out comedy. The producer in Gippy Grewal's brother, Sippy and their co-producers will laugh all the away to the bank.

The two actors were also supposed to be back together for the sequel of their first gangster film. But due to date issues, director Tigmanshu Dhulia had to axe Randeep’s role from the film. But our source says, “Both of them are very happy to be back in action in this film.”

Mahie Gill has developed a strange fetish

While shooting in Bangkok for 'Zanjeer' remake, Mahie Gill developed a strange fetish

Ram Charan Teja, Prakash Raj and Mahie Gill were recently shooting in Thailand for Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1970s cop film. The cast and crew seemed to have had a particularly good time, savouring the local delicacies when not shooting.

Says a unit source, “The entire unit used to go out for dinner every single day. They would try the local cuisine at various restaurants after pack up. But one dish that would invariably find its place on the table was Khao Phad Kai Dow — egg-fried rice done the Thai way. Mahie got hooked on to the dish and would order it everyday without fail.”

Adds the source, “She would force director Apoorva Lakhia and producer Amit Mehra to eat it too everyday. Though there would be more exotic stuff available, Mahie would still insist on ordering her favorite dish!”

Mahie informs, “I love Thai food and developed a taste for this dish. Apoorva started teasing me as the brand ambassador of Thailand’s egg fried rice. He said that I should promote the dish in India as well.”

Mahie, who is reprising Bindu’s iconic Mona Darling act in the remake, made sure that every unit member had at least a few spoons of it every night!

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster sequel: Randeep shown the door?

The actor is no longer a part of ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ sequel as he couldn't make it on time for the shoot due to date problems

Randeep Hooda, who won several accolades for his role in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, is no longer a part of the film’s sequel. Initially slated to play a vital character, Hooda could not make it on time for the shoot due to date problems. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has done away with the entire track featuring Hooda and Mahi Gill.

A source informs, “Randeep was always supposed to be a part of the sequel. However, the dates clashed with the shooting of Jism 2. He has been shooting for Jism 2 in Sri Lanka and could not make it to Gujarat where the shooting of the sequel of Saheb Biwi… is about to be wrapped up.

Although Jism 2 unit is back, Randeep had to juggle between his dates for Heroine and Shooter and was unable to make it to Gujarat. Incidentally his track had him and Mahi Gill and now Tigmanshu has decided to do away with it.”

Randeep Hooda tells us, “I am trying to make it and be a part of the sequel but I have been shooting back to back for my three films and it’s hectic. So I have been unable to shoot for the film.”

Producer Rahul Mitra says, “As we all know that Randeep dies in the first part and we were thinking of bringing him back as a character which Mahi’s imagines or hallucinates. But he had date problems and with my schedule almost over with just two days work remaining, we decided to do away with the track.

It wasn’t a major role anyway and we had no need to add any other track. We would have loved to have Randeep in the film as he is a very dear friend but what to do? Our film is 95 per cent complete.”
