Why is Korean government honouring Neetu Chnadra

Looks like Neetu Chandra is getting into celebration mode. The actress will be honoured by the Korean government on December 13 in Delhi and awarded the taekwondo black belt 4th Dan

Incidentally, Neetu will become the first Indian actress to be the proud possessor of the title.

The actress says, I should say that in a family of doctors and engineer, I am the only one who mixed sports with studies.

If I had only studied like the others, I would have missed out on these awards. I still recall my first brush with fame was when I was being written about for my achievements in sports when I was still in school.
Neetu, who had once hoped to take part in the Olympics, says it was her mother who encouraged her to pursue her interest in sports. 

The actress also does Kathak to keep fit. She has also won many district and state level awards in sports. Neetu now wants to do a hard-core action film. Amen to that.

Neetu Chandra's film selected for IFFI

Finding no support for her no-cheesiness Bhojpuri production Deswa among her friends from Bollywood, actress Neetu Chandra has moved far ahead.

Deswa, directed by Neetu's brother Nitin Chandra has now been selected for the Indian Panorama Section of 43rd Edition of International Film Festival of India, to be held at Goa from 20th to 30th November, 2012.

Deswa a film about unemployed youngsters of rural Bihar taking to crime, is the first Bhojpuri film to be thus honoured.

And Neetu is not allowing the opportunity for gloating to go by. No one from the film industry, OUR film industry except Imtiaz Ali supported me, not even the Bihari stars and directors who have clout.

My brother Nitin had made a Bhojpuri film that resolutely moved away from the sleaze that has become an integral and tragically accepted part of cinema in that language.

A Bhojpuri film is something to be sneered at. That is why the selection of our film in the Indian Panorama means the world to me and my brother. We're fighting to bring respectability to Bhojpuri cinema which has been reduced to a joke.

Neetu feels Vidya should share credit with Ekta and Milan

Usually, people don't get tired of praising Vidya Balan and her acting abilities

But when CS asked Neetu Chandra to comment on one of her latest films, she decided not to heap praises on the actress alone. Instead, she included the filmmakers as well.

“Of course, Vidya did a fabulous job and she deserves all the credit. But at the same time, we’ve got to remember that people like Ekta Kapoor and Milan Luthria. They were the ones who took the risk of going ahead with a story which had a strong female protagonist. So hats off to them, too.”

Neetu Chandra: Randeep Hooda is my Hero

The actress on why preparing for her next role is a cakewalk for her 


Back from shooting for a Greek-English film in Cyprus, Neetu Chandra is busy gearing up for her next project. She will be playing a Kathak dancer of the 1930s British India in the film.

And since the actress has always taken an active interest in dance, preparing for the role was never going to be difficult. “I have always been inclined towards music and dance. As a result, I move in a certain rhythm, ” Neetu says matter-of-factly. 

According to her, learning Kathak defined her personality during her school days when she was introduced to it. While she also regularly practises martial art, 28-year-old adds, “I have been practising classical dance forms too. I have been dancing since I was a kid. Kathak is the base of all dance forms and it instills discipline in the person who whole-heartedly practices it.”

Neetu has three upcoming releases this year, and incidentally they are in three different languages. Noted South film director Ameer Sultan’s next is one of them. The actress has also done several Tamil and Telugu films in the recent past. Has she firmly set her eyes on concentrating in South films for the time being?

Neetu points out, “People just assume I’m stuck down South, ” and adds that Tamil cinema is the backbone of present-day Hindi film industry, “So many remakes are being made in Bollywood. By that logic, I should be more than happy to be working with the very original!”

While being not so forthcoming to talk about her relationship with beau Randeep Hooda, Neetu feels he is an inspiration for newbies in Bollywood. She says, “He’s an example for newcomers from non-filmi background. But we ought to remember that it took him nearly a decade of struggling to get where he is today.”

Neetu in awe of her very 'Yash Raj' look film

Actress Neetu Chandra, who has finished shooting for "Home Sweet Home", a Greek-English film, reveals that she has been shot in a very "Yash Raj" look in the film.

"I have just finished a Greek-English film where I play an Indian girl. I did it because it has me in a totally Yash Raj look, salwar-kameez, sari and the kind of looks in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', " Neetu said.

"Indian films are famous because of their Indianness, our attire and all. I am happy that the Greeks admire us, our impression on them is very good, " she added.

Neetu was last seen in the 2011 film "Kuch Luv Jaisa" and is currently shooting for "Kusar Prasad Ka Bhoot" starring Paresh Rawal and Randeep Hooda.

Neetu Chandra denies going panty-less

Denying reports published by a popular website, claiming that Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra did a Yana Gupta and went commando at an event this week, her publicist said, "Neetu Chandra is a girl with dignity and there has been no slip like this."

The website had claimed that Neetu replicated Yana Gupta's panty-less act and said that it seemed to be "intentional and she might have followed it, after seeing what Yana Gupta has achieved doing the same.

But her publicist dismissed the report as a case of misreporting. "Neetu does not need to resort to any such thing for publicity. In fact, she was planning to initiate legal action on the website and was in the process of approaching the National Commission of Women (NCW) in New Delhi, when the site tendered an unconditional apology for the news. So the matter stands closed."

Neetu’s romps on the ramp

Neetu Chandra may not have too much film work, but she knows how to keep herself busy. She’s now a favourite with dress designers who are constantly looking for showstoppers at the various fashion events. Rocky S roped Neetu in as the showstopper for his fashion show in Delhi this week and the very next day Neetu was chosen by Neeta Lulla for a show in Chandigarh.

The actress says, “Being a ramp showstopper gives me a different kind of high and confidence.” She adds, “Most of the time I get piercing looks or raised eyebrows, followed by a lot of instant attention, love, affection and warmth from the audience. It feels as if I got a thousand jadu ki jhappis all together. It’s ecstatic and I love all of it.” Romp on, Neetu, romp on!
