I have not accepted Matru's Adult rating

It seems like upcoming film 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola' starring Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma and Pankaj Kapur has been landed in Censor Troubles for it's crude language and director Vishal Bhardwaj is not ready to accept the 'A' Certificate for the film. 

According to our very talented Film Maker Vishal Bhardwaj, The film is set in Haryana. In the film, Pankaj Kapur's character, Mandola has a Set-Dialogue for himself called 'Paincho Paincho', which he keeps whispering in the film.

Though, This word sounds very much like an abusive word. But to Vishal, The lines are meant to be hilarious and not offensive. Vinayak Azad, The Censor Board's regional officer has given the film an 'A' rating, which the director has not accepted and will be going to the Revising Committee on December 17. 
On a telephonic conversation, Vishal said "Don't kill the flavour of the region for one word that sounds like an abusive word as it is not an adult film. I will request the Censor Board to have a look at the film again. The phrase isn't offending at all. In fact, it's amusing. Society has to come out of this hypocrisy."

Cinema more satisfying than TV: Pankaj Kapoor

Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor, who was part of trendsetting shows like "Karamchand", says that he consciously moved away from television about a decade ago because the medium was changing and that working in films is far more satisfying.

"About eight to nine years back, I decided not to do television actively because I felt the face of television was changing and someone like me would not be able to relate to the kind of work that is done today, " Pankaj told. 

"Also, I felt that it was straining and tiring because you had long hours of work and whatever you did was lost in 20 minutes, " he added. 

A movie, on the other hand, gives an actor ample time to work on his character, says the 58-year-old, who has been a part of shows like "Zabaan Sambhal Ke", "Office Office" and "Mohandas B.A.L.L.B.", besides "Karamchand".

"Your work as an actor (in TV) is almost as much as you do for any film. Films are made... within lesser hours and you get more time to research and work on your character. It is a lot more satisfying experience because whether the film does well or not, at some point it will be seen by various people in various kinds of medium, " he said. 

Nevertheless, he is still open to small screen projects.
"I am open to the medium of TV as an actor, though not with the kind of face television has right now. But if there is something which is different in which the director and actor are given the independence that is required, then I will do it. 

"If worst comes to worst and it becomes a matter of survival, I am being very honest about it, I might have to look into it, " said the actor, whose directorial debut "Mausam" failed to evoke the expected box-office response.

Asked if he would like to revive any of his old TV series, Pankaj said: "I don't like repeating what I have done before, so it depends... If I am not doing anything and the script has really something nice and juicy and has a challenge for me, then I might consider it." 

Versatility is something he would like to maintain throughout his career.

"Even at this stage of my life, I am looking at doing more roles and different parts where I can create different people. My goal as an actor is to create different people and to interpret them for my audiences, " he said. 

The repertoire of Pankaj, a National School of Drama alumnus, includes successful plays, films and TV shows. He will next be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", in which he has kept up his reputation of giving the audience something new every time. 

The movie, featuring young talents like Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma, will hit the screens Jan 11, 2013.

Pankaj credits Vishal Bhardwaj for dance

You'd hardly ever imagine Pankaj Kapoor dancing in Bollywood fashion, but for "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", he has shaken a leg or two. The acclaimed actor credits director Vishal Bhardwaj for convincing him to dance.

Father of trained dancer Shahid Kapoor, Pankaj admits it was difficult to groove, but says his director's confidence in him made things easy.

"Shahid doesn't have time for me. Our choreographers and their assistants helped me a lot with lot of rehearsals. Earlier it was difficult, but I later stated enjoying it. Shahid did say, 'Dad, just relax and have fun!' So that helped me to take it forward," Pankaj told.

At 58, Pankaj says is a "strain".

"It's not the same with age. Things change and also practice matters. Had I done some dance movements in any of my films, then it would not have been difficult. So I basically had to do rehearsals.

"There was a lot of director's contribution as well. When you get confidence from your director, as an actor, it is all a matter of how your director says 'This is how much I can get out of you'," he added.

Pankaj, along with the entire star cast, including Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma, has grooved on the title track of "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola".

The veteran actor believes the industry has fit him into a 'certain' kind of films, but says he is ready to do all roles that interest him.

"I am open to scripts. I am hoping that interesting subjects come my way. There is a perception that I do certain kind of films. That's not true. I am open to any good scripts with a good role," he said.

Length of the film worked against Mausam, says Pankaj Kapoor

Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor, who made his directorial debut with "Mausam", feels that the length of the film went against it and had he got more time, he would have worked more on editing.

"It has been more than a year that the film has released. One thing what I feel is, if I had got an opportunity to delay the release for two to three months, then I would have sensed the objectivity of the product and so I would have been able to do a better edit job," Pankaj told.

"I think the film was 15 to 20 minutes longer for today's audience. These are the two things that I definitely realise," he added.

However, Pankaj has taken the failure in a very positive way.

"As far as the creativity of the film is concerned, even at the cost of sounding silly I would say we with our honesty went to tell a nice story in a good way but not everything that you do in life is successful and not everything that you do in life is appreciated," he said.

"I don't say 'Mausam' should have been a super hit. Somewhere down the line, there must be something missing in the film but when I make my next film, we will try not to repeat those mistakes," he added.

"Mausam" released in 2011 and featured Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Pankaj will now be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", which releases Jan 11.

It's very challenging to work with Pankaj Kapoor: Imran

Acting alongside versatile veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor turned out to be quite a challenge for Imran Khan while they worked together for "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola".

"Pankaj Kapoor as an actor is a very challenging co-star to act opposite, because he improvises a lot and he pulls out new things as they happen. You have to be in the moment with him, you have to be ready with whatever he will do, and you have to be ready to pick that up and take it forward," Imran said.

Besides Pankaj Kapoor, Imran says he was surprised to see the working style of acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj. He was especially glad to see the space Bhardwaj gives to his actors.

"I was very surprised by his style of directing. He gives a lot more freedom to the actors than I expected. If during the take, you decide to do something different, he will let you do that. He liberates the actor and puts a lot of power in actor's hands," said Imran, who romances Anushka Sharma in the quirky movie.

The film is slated for Jan 11, 2013 release.
