Oops! Esha's birthday clashes with Karva Chauth


Esha Deol's 30th birthday Friday coincides with her first Karva Chauth and the actress says she will have to wait to gorge on goodies until the moon appears.

"My birthday and my first Karva Chauth!!! Will wait for the moon and then eat my birthday cake," tweeted Esha.

The actress, daughter of veteran stars Hema Malini and Dharmendra, married businessman Bharat Takhtani in June this year.

On the big screen, Esha was last seen in 2011 film "Tell Me O Kkhuda", which was an attempt by her mother to relaunch her in showbiz.

I'll not quit dancing: Esha Deol


Esha Deol is hardly seen on the big screen, but the recently-married actress, a trained Odissi dancer, says she will never quit dance.

"It's (dance) a convention passed on to me and Ahana (sister) by maa (Hema Malini) and I will continue doing it. Dance is something that I am never going to quit, " the 31-year-old said here.

Esha, who tied the knot with her businessman beau Bharat Takhtani June 29, was present at a Dahi-Handi celebration for Krishna Janmashtami here Friday.

She performed Manglacharan, a popular style of Odissi, at the event.

So far, the actress had only performed the dance style with her mother Hema Malini and sister Ahana, but she delivered a solo performance this time.

Esha, a lord Krishna devotee, was more ecstatic as she got a chance to perform on the god's birthday.

"Since childhood, I have been a true devotee of lord Krishna. We (Bharat and I) even got married in Krishna's mandir (temple), so maybe it was his (lord Krishna's) call that I come and perform over here, " she said.

On the big screen, Esha was last seen in "Tell Me O Kkhuda", directed by her mother. It was flagged as Esha's comeback film, but it failed to click at the box office.

Sonia Gandhi has invited Esha, Bharat: Hema Malini


Hema Malini had invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her daughter Esha's wedding with Bharat Takhtani. She says that the two couldn't come due to security reasons and that the latter has invited the newly wed couple at her residence.

"We had invited PM and Sonia Gandhi for the wedding. They couldn't come for security reasons. If it would have been in Delhi, they would have made it. It's a sweet gesture from Sonia Gandhi that she has sent Esha and Bharat an invite that whenever they are in Delhi, they should go to her place for lunch or dinner, " the actress told.

A memeber of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bollywood's Dream Girl was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha 2003-2009.

Esha and Bharat had a traditional south Indian wedding at Iskcon Temple in Juhu Friday, which saw Bollywood big wigs like Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek, Rani Mukerji, Ramesh Sippy and top notch Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders attending the ceremony.

From Raj Purohit, Mumbai chief of the BJP, to party president Nitin Gadkari to national vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi - all were seen there.

The wedding reception Saturday saw political figures like Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray attending.

Bollywood celebrities Jeetendra, his son Tusshar Kapoor, Kajol, Fardeen Khan and Vidya Balan also came for the reception to wish the newly wed couple.

Actress Esha Deol Friday married businessman Bharat Takhtani in a traditional South Indian ceremony at the Iskon temple in the Juhu suburb here. Her mother, Hema Malini, says she is "very happy" for her daughter. 

Bride Esha was glowing in a red lehenga made of three Kanjivaram saris and gold jewellery, while Bharat looked dapper in white sherwani with zardozi work. The wedding outfits were designed by Neeta Lulla. 

The decor at the temple was simple yet beautiful. It was heavily decorated with flowers. 

Hema said she will miss her daughter, adding: "It was a normal South Indian wedding, with just slight changes. I am very happy for Esha, she has found the right person. We all are very happy. I will miss her but she is going to be in Mumbai, so I am happy about that." 

She was talking to reporters after the wedding. 

The dress code for women was Kanjivarm saris and Hema looked elegant in a orange-red hand woven six yard, which she teamed up with a green blouse and kept her hair neatly tied at the the back. Esha's dad and yesteryear star Dharmendra kept it simple.

The ceremony saw the presence of creme da la creme from filmdom as well as politicians and businessmen. 

Amitabh Bachchan came with song Abhishek and said: "My best wishes to the married couple." 

Legendary actress Vyjayanthimala, who attened the wedding, looked evergreen in a purple and orange traditional sari and said that she would have "not missed the occasion".

"Hema is like a younger sister. The wedding has been done in a fabulous way. It is totally traditional. I am here only for Hema, we are like family," she added.

Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife, Poonam Sinha, also came with her twin sons - Luv and Kush. She looked beautiful in a pink and golden sari. 

Hema's niece and actress Madhoo is happy for her cousin and said: "I want to tell her that marriage in beautiful. Marriage is all about what you do for the other person, so you should never fall into any power struggle. She has gone into a good family and I wish her all the best."

Madhoo was wearing a golden and maroon sari.

Vinod Khanna, Manoj Kumar, Anu Malik, Esha's cousin Abhay Deol, Ramesh Sippy, Sandip Soparrkar and his wife Jesse Randhwa were also there to bless the couple. 

Rani Mukerji, looking beautiful in a white sari with red embroidery, was among the guests and said: "I am here to wish Esha on her special day. All the best for her married life." The duo worked together in "Yuva".

Fardeen Khan said he hopes that the couple should go to a nice place for honeymoon. "Lots of congratulations. I am very happy for her. I hope they go on a good honeymoon to get away from this heat."

Sahara's chief Subroto Roy, industrialist Mukesh Ambani's wife Neeta Ambani and Sunil Rane of Atharva Group of Institutes, who is a family friend, were among the other high profile guests.

Top notch Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders too attended the wedding. From Raj Purohit, Mumbai chief of BJP, to party president Nitin Gadkari to national vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi - were seen there.

The family will host a reception Saturday at a prominent five star hotel in the city.

So who are the people Hema Malini considers closest to her family from the Bollywood folk? 

Looks like it’s the Bachchans! For daughter Esha’s wedding ceremony today, which is strictly a family affair, only the Bachchan family has been invited. An exception was made for the Bachchans as Big B isn’t well.


Says a source, “He asked Hema if he could attend the wedding for a short while to bless the couple and leave.” Amitabh with Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya with baby Aaradhya are expected to attend the nuptials at a temple in Juhu. 


It’s not just this time that the Bachchans have been given preference over the other B-Town folk. Even at Esha’s engagement a few months back, Jaya Bachchan was among the few to attend the do.

The entire Bollywood industry has been invited to attend Esha and Bharat Takhtani’s reception tomorrow at a suburban hotel.

Neeta Lulla who has styled Deol for her big day says, “Kanjivarams are very pretty but we didn’t want a standard look for Esha, thanks to her height and the way she carries herself" 

So we bought three Kanjivarams and then designed to make them into one. She looks very elegant in it.” In fact, Hema, who went shopping in Chennai, also bought sarees for her family members.

She also gifted one to Neeta and asked her to wear it for the wedding. The designer also worked on the ensembles of the bridegroom Bharat Takhtani besides Hema and Ahana.

Hema and Esha unite style at Lakme Fashion WeekBollywood actresses Hema Malini and Esha deol raised the mercury on the third day Friday of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2011 when the mother-daughter duo strutted down the ramp in creations designed by Shyamal and Bhumika.

While Hema was wearing a maroon saree with part velvet, part brocade layers, daughter Esha sported a highly-embellished lehenga choli of the same colour. "I have never worn such a lovely saree. It looks like Kanjivaram but it`s lighter with hand woven brocade work. The idea was to canvas the golden era," Hema, 62, told reporters after the show. The designers were elated to have the mother-daughter duo for the show.

"It`s amazing to have Esha and Hemaji here to showcase the line. Esha is wearing a silk velvet ghagra and it has heavy zardosi hand embroidery. We specialise in hand embroidery, that`s what Shyamal and Bhumika are known for. We have done lots of hand works with contrasting colours; that`s our forte," Bhumika said.

The collection was inspired by the age-old Jamaas, Chogaas, Peshwas, Achkans and Kaidar Lehengas of the 17th century. The lines include some streamline sherwanee jackets teamed with gorgeous skirts sensuous cholas worn over avant grade Kalidaar lehengaas, floor sweeping Anarkalees, elongated yokes and kurtees. Jewel-toned colours like ruby wine, sunlight cream, nile blue, honey gold, aurora red, burnt orange, pale gold, lilac rose, peacock green were predominant in the collection.

Esha Deol Changing Gears In Her CareerEsha Deol is making the necessary corrections in her career. The actress is sad that she chose films in the past that never helped her to any advantage.

Recovering from this introspection, Esha is focusing all her energies on her upcoming film TELL ME OH KHUDA, that is her home production. Esha feels that the film has everything that she needs to establish her firm foothold in Bollywood. The actress says, “I have wisened up and I, as an actor or producer, will only take up films that has some good content.”

According to close sources, mom Hema Malini is ready to go to any extent to make this film work in Esha’s favour. Though Esha has done big films in the past, the most remembered being her sexy act in DHOOM, but it seems success still loves to elude her.

Now, with Esha banking on her home production to find some firm ground in Bollywood, let’s hope this gamble pays off for her.
