Madhuri is a complete actor: Madhurima Tuli

Madhurima Tuli who is making her debut with 'Cigarette Ki Tarah' talks about her favourite actress and her upcoming projects

Tell us how you signed this film?
I did a short film for an NGO in Madhya Pradesh. I met an actor there who introduced me to the makers of Cigarette Ki Tarah. Initially I was a little apprehensive but when I heard the script and songs, I decided to do it.

Tell us something about your role?
I am playing Jessica in the film. She is bold and a beautiful girl from Goa. She hails from a rich background and is a bit arrogant. She has shades of grey in her character but she is a very nice girl at heart.

You have been doing television and films down south...
Yes, before Cigarrate Ki Tarah I did a Kannada film with Subhash Ghai's production house, which is going to release in January. I have also done many ads on television and have been face of some reputed brands.
Since the film is releasing today, are you nervous?
After a lot of delays, my first film is seeing the daylight, I am happy and relieved and hopefully from here onwards, things will only be better for me.

What else is in the pipeline?
I have signed a film with a big producer but cannot talk about it right now. They will announce the project in January since the film is slated to release in February, March next year.
Who are your screen idols?
Madhuri Dixit! I have been her hardcore fan since I started seeing her films. She is a complete actor with a gorgeous smile.

Juhi joins Madhuri's Gulab Gang

After roping in Madhuri Dixit for "Gulab Gang", now filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has cast Juhi Chawla for the film and says it will be great to see them together for the first time on big screen.

"Actually, there were two reasons to cast Juhi Chawla for the film. The very first thing is that it was a creative decision taken by all of us... and we thought it would be great to see two iconic stars - Madhuri and Juhi - together in the film, " Sinha, who is producing the film, told.

"I couldn't have pulled off a better cast than the two most iconic female stars, Madhuri and Juhi, together for the first time on Indian screen, " he added.

Inspired by Sampat Pal-led Gulabi Gang in Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh, which fights for the rights of women in the region, the film will be directed by Soumik Sen. Filming will start in December and the "first schedule will be shot in Bombay", Sinha told.

"We were working on the looks of the actresses, now we are ready to roll. Since the film is based in rural India, both of them will be seen in a de-glam avatar and will have a rustic look, " he added.

Earlier, the plans were to release "Gulab Gang" on Women's Day, but Sinha said that "things got a little delayed and now I feel the film will release after March".

"Gulab Gang" also stars Mahie Gill and Shilpa Shukla.

While Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah won the hearts of film buffs with their performances in the film Ishqiya, audiences are now eagerly waiting for the film's sequel Dedh Ishqiya.

But Arshad himself seems to be the most eager of all to start shooting for the film. The reason? Hear it from Arshad himself. "I absolutely enjoyed working with Vidya (Balan) in Ishqiya.
She is a dear friend and I will miss her while shooting the sequel. But I can't wait to start shooting with Madhuri Dixit. I mean, no one can beat her right?" said an excited Arshad at a recent event.

Oops! Kareena picked over Madhuri!

Apparently, the Bollywood make up artist chose Kareena Kapoor over Madhuri Dixit for a make up session before an awards gala

It was all about who would look like a million bucks. When it comes to putting their best face forward for the red carpet and the flashbulbs, actresses leave nothing behind. They demand and obtain what they want in the one-upmanship of the looks department.

Kareena Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit were both keen to have Bollywood make up artist Mickey Contractor apply his deft strokes for the People's Choice Awards. The event was held on Saturday night at Film City. But Mickey could oblige only one and it was Saif Ali Khan's Begum who managed to have Mickey do her make up.
Says an onlooker, Mickey was heard talking about his dilemma in Gujarati about choosing Kareena over Madhuri. At events he prefers to do the make up of only one actress. He is not keen to multi-task.

Adds the onlooker, Everyone is aware of frayed nerves before a big event. Costumes and make up is one region where no one wants to rub any actress off. It often leads to hushed whispers that do the rounds of vanity vans.

Madhuri had recorded her dance performance a day earlier - on Friday for the awards show. Mickey had done her make up for her act. So the actress assumed that he would also apply his magic tools on the following day as well for the red carpet and awards gala.
But as the onlooker states, Madhuri was taken aback when she was told that Mickey would be doing Kareena's make up on the big day. She kept telling him that he could do hers as well as Kareena's make up. But he preferred to stick to the newlywed Bebo.

He was apparently overheard saying that as Kareena had told him in advance that she wanted him on the awards day, it was a first come-first serve situation.

While on the other hand Madhuri felt that as he had done his make up for her performacce a day earlier, he would do it for the main event as well. Mads had apparently fetched a lot of compliments for her make up on that day and wanted to do a repeat the next day as well. But Bebo certainly spoilt her flawless act on the red carpet.

Madhuri Dixit makes even Geeta Kapoor nervous

Choreographer Geeta Kapoor says she was nervous before working on Madhuri Dixit's dance steps for an upcoming award gala

Choreographing for the eternal dhak-dhak girl of Bollywood is no easy task. No wonder that choreographer Geeta Kapoor was quite nervous before working with Madhuri Dixit for an upcoming awards show on Saturday.

At the event, Madhuri will be performing on selected tracks from her previous films.

Our source says, Mads is known to be extremely particular about who she will be working with. So far, most of her steps were choreographed by Saroj Khan. However, this time she wanted to experiment with her style. The organisers roped in Geeta for the act.
Geeta, who has never worked with Mads before was naturally anxious about her upcoming task.

She tells us, I literally had jitters, as Madhuri is a perfectionist. But it went well. She took personal interest in everything that was being done.

Our informers also tell us that designer Manish Malhotra has been roped in to give Mads a 'special' look for the awards show.

Sridevi-Madhuri Finally Come Together, to dance to each other's tunes

Years ago the only filmmaker who dared to bring the two warring divas Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit together was Ramesh Sippy. He cast them together in Zameen. But the film got shelved. That was the end of all endeavour to bring the two screen queens into the same line of vision.

The two divas finally came together on the dance reality-show Jhalak Dhikhla Jaa. One doesn't know how historic the audience would consider this belated union of the two hottest star-actresses from the 1990s.

Sridevi and Madhuri were both adamant on outdoing one another in who would appear happier in the other's company.
"As soon as the camera was switched on, they behaved like long-lost sahelis, giggling whispering to one another , admiring each other's clothes and jewellery, much to the amusement of Karan Johar who is also a judge on the show," says the eyewitness from the Jhalak Dikhla Ja set.

Sridevi's cold-war with Madhuri dates back to the time when both were vying for the No.1 spot at the boxoffice. With the two hits Mr India and Chandni ,Sridevi had a marked edge over her rival. No filmmaker succeeded in bringing them together.

The highpoint on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa was when the two ladies took the floor to dance to one another's songs.

Says our eyewitness, "Sridevi danced to Madhuri's Dhak dhak and Madhuri danced to Sridevi's "Mere Haathon Mein Nau-Nau Chudiyan". Madhuri's fellow-judges Karan Johar and Remo d'Souza seemed quite taken up with Sridevi's presence. They even showered rose petals on Sridevi".

Ranbir woos Madhuri with Main shayar toh nahin

Ranbir Kapoor literally fell flat on the floor when he got a chance to dance with his childhood crush, actress Madhuri Dixit on his father's evergreen romantic number "Main shayar toh nahin".

Ranbir paid a visit to the sets of dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5" to promote his forthcoming release "Barfi!". There was no way he could have missed the chance to match steps with the dancing diva.

So, he requested her to join him on the dance floor on the song "Main shayar toh nahin" from his dad, actor Rishi Kapoor's film "Bobby".

Once she agreed and danced with him, Ranbir jumped all over the stage like a teenager, says a source.

Whenever Madhuri took his name on the set, Ranbir blushed like a school child and hid his face. He fell flat on the floor after Madhuri danced with him, and the actress was quite shocked with his craze for her.

First Look: Aiyyaa Rani is fan of Sridevi, Madhuri and Juhi

Rani Mukerji's character in "Aiyyaa" takes inspiration from not one, or two but three actresses - Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla.

"My character is a huge fan of Sridevi, Juhi and Madhuri. She dreams about them and goes into a fantasy world all the time," Rani said at the first look of her film held here Thursday.

She came dressed as her character, Meenakshi Deshmukh, in an elegant yellow and green traditional Maharashtrian nauvari sari.

Rani revealed that her character is not "normal at all". "She is completely mad and very filmy woman."

Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18 and directed by Sachin Kundalkar, "Aiyyaa" also stars southern actor Prithviraj and is due to release Oct 12.

Rani said she took a lot of help from her director to get the right Marathi look and feel.
"Sachin wanted a typical Marathi flavour right from costumes to dialect and pronunciation. You will see a lot of Marathi and south Indian flavour in the film."

After critical acclaim for her intense and bold portrayal of a journalist in "No On Killed Jessica", Rani said she was looking for a light-hearted film and that is when "Aiyyaa" came to her.

"When Anurag came to me, I told him I don't want to do dark films. I told Anurag I want to do happy films and he told me he is offering me one," she said.

"I wanted to do something different with him since I have known him for long. I know his quirky side. Since I had done dark films like 'No One Killed Jessica' and will be doing 'Talaash', I wanted to do something light," she added.

Madhuri Dixit is unarguably one of the finest dancers that Bollywood has ever had. And when it comes to remembering her dance steps, the actress says she has an elephant's memory.

Recently, on the sets of dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, contestant Rashmi Desai requested Mads to perform one of her popular dance numbers on camera, the actress did so with elan.

And when Rashmi asked Mads as to how she remembered each and every dance step, the actress admitted to having a photographic memory.

She says, When Sarojji choreographed my songs, I used to remind her that we had already completed certain steps. In return she would say Arey Madhuri, tumhe kyun yaad rehta hai itna sab? Well said, then.
