Dabangg 2 is way beyond action and comedy

Actor Arbaaz Khan, who has turned director with Salman Khan-starrer 'Dabangg 2', says the film is not just minldess action and comedy but has an inherent story that binds all the drama

The film, which will hit theatres on December 21, is the sequel to 'Dabangg' with Salman and Sonakshi reprising their characters of Chulbul Pandey and Rajjo respectively while Prakash Raj is the main antagonist.

'You would see a lot of style coming along with the action and it would be in the kind of space that Chulbul Pandey as a character and 'Dabangg' as a brand stand for. 'Having said that, while action is an integral part of the film, it would be not more than what is necessary. There is a story running behind all the action.

You just can't have action and more of action. None of it would hold if there is no emotion behind it; for that you need to have a story in a scene or a sequence,' Arbaaz told. The sequel has a sizzling item number 'Fevicol Se' by actress Kareena Kapoor and other numbers are also topping the charts.
Music-composer duo Sajid-Wajid have been roped in this time too for the compositions. 'There are five songs in the movie and while the music of 'Dabangg' was outstanding, Sajid-Wajid have gone ahead and churned out something even better; I genuinely believe that.

The composers have done a fabulous job,' Arbaaz said. He is happy that the film has created quite a buzz before its release. 'I had to be conscious about the fact that the brand and the character stood for their true worth in the sequel and had something good to offer as well.

I wanted to put the film in a very interesting way and give entertainment along with it. I could never lose sight of the entertainment quotient since that's the most important aspect here,' he said.

Arbaaz enjoys film direction most

An actor, producer and now also a director - Arbaaz Khan has enjoyed all three roles over the years, but going behind the camera for "Dabangg 2" is what he says he has loved the most.

"I have done more than 40 films as an actor I have worked for 16 years as an actor, then I turned producer now I am a director but if you ask me which is the profession that I have enjoyed the most, I would say it is direction, " said Arbaaz here.

In "Dabangg 2", Arbaaz has took up all three responsibilities, and says it wasn't easy to manage it.

"It is difficult. It is not easy to manage everything when it is just one person who has to manage three different things. Of course, there is a sense of responsibility, but I prioritised my work and then I worked on it. I was more a director than anything else. As a producer, my things were ready before, but when I used to be on sets, then I was only a director, " he added.

Arbaaz is presently busy promoting "Dabangg 2", which features Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Prakash Raj. It will release Dec 21.

I felt that I should take charge of Dabangg 2: Arbaaz Khan

Arbaaz Khan sets the record straight about him stepping into Abhinav Kashyap's shoes for 'Dabangg' sequel

While Dabangg proved to be a runaway hit, Salman Khan is hoping to create magic at the box office once again with the film's sequel.

And this time around, he has entrusted his ambitious project into the hands of his brother Arbaaz. We caught up with the debutant director at Mehboob Studios to talk about controversies and working with Salman.

Your debut film as a director started on a controversial note with Abhinav Kashyap walking out of the film...
When we met to plan Dabangg's sequel, it was expected that he would be directing the film and we also had some discussions and toyed with a few ideas. In that bargain a few weeks after our meeting, I got a message from him that he was not very keen to direct and opted out for personal reasons.
What caused him to leave? Was he hurt?
That is his personal issue, which I don't know about. I am, not aware ke aisa kya hua hai ke he would be hurt. But after he left there was a void that needed to be filled and after much deliberation I felt that I should take charge. I spoke to Salman and he felt that I am closer to the film and I always wanted to turn director. I took up the challenge and here I am.
You met Abhinav recently. Did you speak to him?
I met him last week and we had a long chat. He told me that he wanted to move on as he thought that he would get stuck in on making the second part and then the third... I am not aware of any other personal, professional or financial issue. It was his choice (to leave) and I am fine with his decision.

Does the success of Dabangg add to the expectations from this film?
Mein nahi karta aur koi bhi karta to bhi usko har kissi ko jawab dena padta. But I agree I have to still prove how I would do it, as I have not directed a film yet.
Normally sequels do not have the same leading girl...
We toyed with a lot of ideas. There was a possibility of a different situation and different characters but I felt that the strength of Chulbul Pandey is in his family and his people. So we went ahead with Chaubhe, Tiwari, Rajjo, Prajapati and Makhi.

The film is expected to cross the Rs 200 crore mark.
To a certain extent it makes me feel good but it also adds a little pressure. People are already expecting so much. I have done my best and that's how you play the game.
You had the options to sell the film but you are releasing it on your own. . .
The market is changing drastically. It would have been unfair to put a value to the film, especially when today's theatrical numbers are very encouraging. I also did not feel the need to find the funding as it is a successful franchise and we have ensured the amount from sales through satellite, overseas and music. Making a film is one thing and the business part of it is another.
How much is Salman involved in the making of the film?
Salman is a big star and he has his own audience. He has the knowledge and experience and he has his own take on certain scenes. Sometime there was a discussion and sometime a debate and whoever was convincing enough had his way.

Salman Khan is a great Star

Arbaaz Khan is very excited and nervous at the same time while his first directorial debut 'Dabangg 2' approaches the release date. Very few know Arbaaz started his career as an assistant director to Mahesh Bhatt at the age of 19.

And at the age of 24, Arbaaz got his first major break as an actor in Abbas-Mustan's 'Daraar'. But his career as an actor never saw the real expected light.

"I did about 40-odd films but since I was not getting too far as an actor, my mind was constantly on the lookout for something else. That is when I produced Dabangg and was successful. " says Arbaaz Khan.

Dabangg 2 was earlier supposed to be directed by Abhinav Kashyap who also directed 'Dabangg' but somehow things never got materialized here too.

On asking about him taking up the Director's chair, Arbaaz replied "Abhinav Kashyap, the director of the film, was to work on the sequel, but in a couple of weeks, I got an SMS from him saying he did not want to be a part of the sequel and had his personal reasons for opting out and I realized there was no point trying to convince him. After a lot of deliberation, I realized that I was the next best guy to take over the helm of affairs as nobody had the closeness or attachment to the project that I had. "

On working with the superstar brother Salman Khan, Arbaaz shares "Salman is a brilliant and spontaneous actor. He knows the camera and knows his audience. This comes after many years of experience. He is so much at ease with himself. He is an achiever and I give him that space, privacy and respect. He is a great Star. "

Fevicol se has become the talk of the town. Arbaaz is happy

Filmmaker Arbaaz Khan says it was a collective and creative decision to rope in Kareena Kapoor for the item song "Fevicol se" in "Dabangg 2", while his wife Malaika Arora Khan features in a cameo in another song in the movie.

Malaika had become a rage with "Munni badnaam" in the 2010 film "Dabangg". She is expected to add her magic to the movie's sequel too.

"Malaika is there in the film. She has a special appearance in 'Pandey ji' song," Arbaaz said at a press conference here Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Kareena's item number "Fevicol se" has become the talk of the town. Arbaaz is happy with the response to it, and said: "The song is fantastic and she has done a superb job in it. The response is overwhelming. It was a mutual consensus and creative call to have Kareena do it."

Talking about whether there will be a third part to the "Dabangg" series, Arbaaz said they will take a decision based on the response of "Dabangg 2".

The Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha-starrar will release Dec 21.

We are professional on the sets: Arbaaz Khan

With Arbaaz Khan directing the film and Salman Khan acting in it, "Dabangg 2" seems to be a family film. But the atmosphere on the sets is completely professional, says the director.

"It is comfortable. When you work with your family members, it becomes a very homely atmosphere. But in spite of this, we work professionally," he told in an interaction.

"On the set, Salman Khan is a big star and I am a debutant director. He expects me to be at my best and I, as a first time director, expect him to give me all his expertise. We agree on many things and disagree on many. We debate, which is sometimes a discussion and sometimes an argument," he added.

"Dabangg 2" is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster film "Dabangg".

Salman and Arbaaz's father Salim Khan is looking into the distribution of the film, which releases Dec 21.

But does having a star like Salman and a franchise like "Dabangg" make Arbaaz confident of good collections?

"Collections take care of themselves if you make a good film. If you make a good film, collections will happen. You can't keep thinking of that and make the film...I don't know how everyone else make films, but I can't," he said.

"Salman Khan is a big star and he has a big fan following. A lot of people want to watch him. But with that it is also your duty to make a good film. It's not like you can take everything for granted and say that it's Salman Khan and 'Dabangg' and people will come to watch the film," he said.

"We have put in sincere and honest efforts to make a good film...so if these things add to his fan following, it will be great...this is our effort," he added.

Arbaaz says he would like to work with other actors and directors as well.

"I am just into my career right now. This is my second film as a producer and I am directing it as well. I will be working with a lot of other actors as well. As long as we are doing great work in the family is wonderful, but I would like to work outside," he said.

Building curiosity for Dabangg 2 important, says Arbaaz

The team of "Dabangg 2" will go full throttle for the movie's promotion soon. Producer-director Arbaaz Khan says it was vital to maintain the curiosity for the movie until now.

"Building curiosity for the film was important. This was the need of the film. People are liking the look of the film which is a positive step," Arbaaz said at a press conference here Wednesday.

Arbaaz is making his directorial debut with "Dabangg 2", which is the sequel of 2010 blockbuster "Dabangg".

He says the film carries forward the story from "Dabangg", which also starred Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

"It is a sequel to the film and the story is going ahead. The couple is married now and a scenario of how a married couple can also be romantically inclined to each other is created in the film," said Arbaaz.

Talking about the promotional strategy of the film, he said they are hard-pressed for time, but they do have some promotional plans now.

"It has been a slightly squeezed film. But we will be promoting the film now. Salman will be doing shows on TV to promote," he said.

The movie will release Dec 21.

REVEALED: The Big Abhinav-Arbaaz Patch Up

It looks like the war between Salman-Arbaaz Khan and Abhinav Kashyap over Dabangg is finally over. The two parties were locked in a silent war when Abhinav refused to direct the sequel to Dabangg opting instead to move on to what were apparently greener pastures.

The Khans brothers saw red. Much acrimony was swapped on the issue.

It looks like both the parties have matured in the past few months. On Monday night at a party thrown by producer Sunil Bohra at the Kino Cottage on Yari Road in Mumbai, Arbaaz and Abhinav not only hugged and greeted each other like long-lost friends they spent close to 3 hours chatting non-stop.
The party attended by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Randeep Hooda, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Aanand Rai, Sudhir Mishra, Tutu Sharma and many other open-mouthed onlookers, came to a standstill when Arbaaz and Abhinav headed towards one another.

`Abhinav arrived early in the evening. Arbaaz walked in post-midnight. We expected fireworks and in fact told our host to find a way to keep them apart.

Instead of exchanging barbs and blows Arbaaz and Abhinav were glued to one another like Siamese twins,  says a guest who still hasn't gotten over the shock of watching another infamous Bollywood battle come to an end.
The main topic of conversation between the estranged Dabangg producer and director? Believe it or not, the friends-turned-foe's bete-noire Dabangg 2!

Says an invitee, Abhinav quizzed Arbaaz eagerly about Dabangg 2, how it has turned out, what is the plot, how Abraaz has carried the story forward, etc etc. Arbaaz was equally enthusiastic in telling Abhinav all the details.

Arbaaz didn't hide anything about the sequel. He opened up completely about Dabangg 2, telling Abhinav how he has treated the second part as compared with the first. Arbaaz also wanted to know a lot about Abhinav's next project Besharam
Sonu Sood who starred in Dabangg but opted out of Dabangg 2 also joined Arbaaz and Abhinav at some point during the evening.

Arbaaz and my son keep me updated about technology: Malaika

Actress Malaika Arora Khan says the two men in her life -- husband Arbaaz Khan and son Arhaan -- keep her well-informed about new technology.

"Arbaaz is very eager about any new product that's in the market and I can definitely say that I go to him to find out and ask (about technology). But apart from that, about browsing and learning new things, I think my son," the 38-year-old said here.

"Between the two men in my life, I think they keep me pretty abreast with everything there is to know in technology," she added.

She spoke on the sidelines of the launch of a 3D tablet Swipe.

Malaika says if she was to create her own application, it would be around cooking.

"If you can actually have an app (application) with me telling you about what one needs to know about what you can do in the kitchen, trust me, I will be the happiest," she added.

Star kids have an edge over others: Arbaaz Khan

Actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan admits that star kids have an edge over outsiders as they are aware of the way the industry functions.

"Many people come from outside in the film industry. Of course, star kids have the edge and advantage of being associated with the star families. They grow up in the film family so they know how things work and what they have to do, " Arbaaz said at the premiere of the movie "Challo Driver" here.

But Arbaaz feels that the industry is opening up to fresh talent and appreciates the trend.

"A lot of people want to be actors, directors, technicians and this industry welcomes them with opens arms, " he added.

Meanwhile, Arbaaz is looking forward to the release of his brother Salman's "Ek Tha Tiger", which is set to hit screens this Independence Day.

"'Ek Tha Tiger' is looking interesting, even the promos are interesting. An image is created to see the film when you watch the promo and it has been the longest gap for bhai (Salman Khan), " he said.

"I think till now there has been no such long gap of almost a year. His last film released on Eid and this one is also releasing on Eid. There was no film in between so everybody is excited, " he added.

'It's Not Fair'

`It`s Not Fair`
The road accident on Sunday night by a car allegedly owned by Arbaaz Khan and driven by Sohial Khan’s driver, which took an old woman’s life, has left the Khan family with a disturbing sense of déjà vu, and a deep sense of distress and indignation when no member of the Khan family was in the car when the accident occurred.

So says a discernibly distressed and upset Sohail Khan who claims media reports with the Khan name have deeply disturbed the family.

Says Sohail, “We are not an insensitive family. And it’s not a good feeling to be portrayed that way. The driver was alone in the car. It was the driver who caused the very unfortunate accident. He has taken the responsibility it. ”

Far from feeling relieved at being exonerated from guilt Sohail says the Khan family is deeply disturbed by the accident.

“We are shaken by the whole episode. Who wouldn’t be? Are we not human? To be called insensitive when only I know the trauma that my family is going through ever since the accident happened, is very unfair. ”

Sohail says the accident was seen by several eyewitnesses. “They’ve told the police exactly what happened. The driver was alone in the car. The poor lady lost her life. We are as troubled by this as any normal family would be.

Why are we being perceived as callous and indifferent? It is sad that such a tragic event has become one more occasion to make us brothers look like reckless adventurers. . Our names are being used just because our driver is not a celebrity. ”

Apparently the family is extremely concerned about the plight of the driver.

“It was an accident. A precious human life has been lost. At least give us time to come to terms with the enormity of the tragedy, ” says Sohail.

Sohail is specially upset with the way the Khan family’s role in the entire tragedy is being distorted.

Says Sohail, “Look at how our statements are minsterpreted. I said and I meant that it was sad to see homeless people sleeping on the roads covering themselves with plastic sheets to stop being drenched in the rain. Given this kind of dangerous situation, if God Forbid, a car loses control it can prove fatal. ”

Says Sohail, “We are sincerely concerned about the situation. What happened should not and must not happen to anyone. Let’s make the roads safer for the pedestrians and the drivers. ”

We are not paying any compensation to victim's family: Salman Khan

We are not paying any compensation to victim`s family: Salman Khan
The Khan family was not paying any compensation to the 70-year-old woman who was killed by a Land Cruiser owned by Arbaaz Khan as she had been disowned by her family, the filmmaker's brother and Bollywood star Salman Khan said Monday.

"The accident happened by mistake. I spoke to my driver and he said when he was driving, he saw something like a black polythene bag on the road, but it was the lady who was completely in black. I would request everyone not to sleep on the road," Salman told reporters at their Galaxy apartment home in Bandra here.

"We are not paying any compensation to the family members of the victim as we got to know that her family had disowned her," he added.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday near St. Andrew's Church when the vehicle was headed towards the home of the Khans at Bandstand.

The woman has been identified as Chandra Bala, police said. She was rushed to the Bhabha Hospital by a police constable and some autorickshaw drivers in the vicinity but died from her injuries.

Salman's sibling Sohail Khan said that he was "shocked" when he came to know about the accident.

"I was at home. I did not know what was happening. Only driver was there in the car. The car was coming home and they did not know who the family was," he told reporters.

Sohail also said that "the news has been hyped a lot".

"Instead of focusing on who was in the car, people should focus on the fact that a women died. I got to know about this incident after an hour. This accident happened by mistake," he added.

The car was being driven by Dhananjay Pimpale. A top police official supervising the investigation said Pimpale came and reported the accident case to the police station shortly afterwards.

"We have recorded his statement and also the statements of two eyewitnesses who were present at the scene of the accident. We shall record the statements of the vehicle owner (Arbaaz Khan) and Sohail Khan (who has been using the vehicle)," the official told media-persons.

He confirmed that nobody else was present in the vehicle and also the fact that Pimpale was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.

"However, we shall send his blood samples for analysis to further confirm this," the official added.

Pimpale was later presented before a magistrate here Monday afternoon.

After a brief hearing, Pimpale was remanded in police custody till July 9, but soon afterwards, he applied for and secured a bail on an amlount of Rs.10,000, his lawyer Zameer Khan told media persons

Meanwhile, Salim Khan - the father of Arbaaz, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and filmmaker Sohail Khan - has expressed regret over the death of the destitute woman.

"It was most unfortunate. The woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police," Salim Khan told.

He claimed that the woman, apparently frail, was not "crushed" as claimed in some quarters, but fell near the vehicle.

Salim Khan castigated the media and said that instead of finding out the whereabouts of the poor woman and her family or survivors, the focus was more on his celebrity family -- whether they were inside the vehicle and who owned the vehicle.

He added that the vehicle belonged to Arbaaz but was being used temporarily by Sohail. No family member was present in the vehicle at the time of the accident, he said.

Bollywood couple hot Malaika, Sallu's hot moves

Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan was recently in Delhi for the promotion of their home production “Dabangg. The movie is Arbaaz’s first attempt as a producer but he exuded the confidence of a professional, “I have been in the industry for last 14 years and have grown up observing all the technicalities of movie making. This is not new.

Even when I was acting I thought of taking up production in future. It was not a cakewalk when I decided to take up production. But I am grateful to Salman and other family members who supported me in pursuing my dream,” said the confident Arbaaz.

So what made you choose Salman over other actors? “It is a home production, so Salman had to be a part of it. He is a strong and versatile actor, he has experience and has been in the industry for a longer period than I have been. I was sure he wouldn’t deny acting in my film,” he said.

So it must be fun with bhai-bonding on the sets, no? “Salman is very professional... he would come to the set and give his best shot... wahan bhai giri nahi chalti thi,” he said. What was the challenge while filming “Dabangg”?

“It was a big challenge to cast Salman with debutante actress Sonakshi Sinha. But Sonakshi deserves a pat on her back; she was very confident during the shooting of the film and didn’t look like a newcomer,” he said.

In the film Malaika has given a hot item number with Salman, and Arbaaz has loved her moves. “Malaika is hot, sexy and confident and she fits into the role in the item song. There was no other option. It is not for the first time that she is dancing on an item song. In fact, she didn’t even hesitate in dancing with Salman on that number,” he said.

And it was not just Arbaaz’s moment... even Malaika is proud of hubby Arbaaz’s new role – Producer, “I’m very proud of him. I’m glad that I got an an opportunity to dance on an item number in the film. After all, it is our home production. It was good to see that everybody from the family be it Salman bhai or Sohail bhai, my husband or me was involved in this new project,” she said.

Did you hesitate while dancing on an item number with Salman? “Why should there be any reason. My husband’s family is very broad minded. The bonding in our family is very beautiful be it brother, sister or bhabhis,” she said.

With everyone, right from Salman to Sohail being discussed, how could the couple’s son – Arhaan stay away from the candid conversation! “If I’m at home I spend most of my time playing cricket with my son. You have to check him out, he is just 7 years old and is as good as a professional cricketer. He is a gyani guru of cricket. He teaches me what is off spin, googly etc. For a change, I enjoy talking about cricket with him and not movies. I’m sure he will become a cricketer,” he said.

“I shall make him join a cricket academy and enroll him for training,” he said. Follow us on Twitter for more stories Any more production plans for future? “I’m taking it very slow and easy. I want things to happen on their own. Even “Dabangg” was not planned, it just happened, so let’s see,” he said.

Bollywood reacts on Sania - Shoaib controversy

The ongoing controversy around Sania Mirza- Shoaib Malik’s marriage has become a serious issue with Ayesha, who claims to be Malik’s first wife, filing an FIR against the Pakistani cricketer.

Let’s find out what our Bollywood celebrities have to say about it. Deepika Padukone “Instead of discussing sports, people, marriages, I wish Saina Nehwal reaching top 5 ranking worldwide got as much mileage.”

Hrithik Roshan “News should be about reporting news. That's it! It has to be without opinions, background music and drama. It’s laughable.”

Dia Mirza “I understand the concern for Sania's welfare but let's remember that all parents know what's best. As a nation let's respect their decision.

Their love, support and dedication helped Sania achieve her dreams. Let's not forget that. I am appalled at the media!”

R Madhavan “I feel so sorry for Sania. This is meant to be such a joyous occasion. Hope all turns out well for her.”
Kunal Kapoor “Should Sania marry Shoaib? A country full of bored and annoyed television viewers, who just want this stupidity to STOP! It feels like you are going to the movies! And movies from the eighties! Action, emotion, romance, drama...”

Arbaaz Khan “I wish Sania and Shoaib a blissful married life. Hope their happiness not be marred by stupid controversy created by jealous people.” Kunal Kohli “Sania, Shoaib aur woh! as headlines everyday. There's nothing more important happening in India-Pak or what? Give us a break!”
