John, Riteish share birthday

Bollywood stars John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh shared their birthday on Monday. 

John, who turned 40 this year, wants to keep it low on his birthday and flew down to Kerala to be with his folks, media reports said. 

"I don't really like blowing candles or listening to the birthday song. It embarrasses me! My family too steers clear of big celebrations,` the actor was quoted on the website of Mid Day. 

According to the reports, the actor receives cash in a sealed envelop from his parents, as birthday gift every year. 

The actor is very hopeful for the upcoming year with three back-to-back releases and all being actions films. 

He is also very excited about his role as the dreaded gangster 'Manya Surve' in the much talked about film by Sanjay Gupta. 

The actor is currently shooting in Kerala for his close friend Shoojit Sircar's upcoming film. 

Abraham, who earned the Filmfare Best Debut Award nomination for 'Jism' charmed the audiences with 'Dhoom' , and has received two Filmfare Award nominations, for his negative roles in 'Dhoom', and 'Zinda'. 

Having tasted success with 'Water', John produced his first production Vicky Donor which was a critical and commercial success. 

On the other hand, comedy hero Riteish, who turned 34 this year, not only shares the birth date with John but has recently shared screen space in Sajid Khan's comedy blockbuster 'Housefull 2'. 
The actor has made the audience laugh with films like 'Masti', 'Heyy Babyy', 'Dhamaal', 'Housefull', 'Double Dhamaal', 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya', 'Housefull 2' and 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum'. 

Riteish also owns 'Veer Marathi' Celebrity Cricket League and is also the team's captain. 

Presently, Riteish is set to launch his own production house with a Marathi film. 

The actor got married to actress Genelia D'Souza earlier this year and lost his father Vilasrao Deshmukh in August 2012. 

The film fraternity has wished both the actors on their special day through a social networking site

Riteish Deshmukh begins work on his next Marathi production based on a state leader

Riteish Deshmukh turned producer with the Marathi film Balak Palak. The film which deals with curiosity about sex among adolescents has won accolades on the festival circuit. Even though Balak Palak is yet to release, the actor-turned-filmmaker has already begun working on his next Marathi production.

Says a source, Riteish is in talks with Dombivali Fast director Nishikant Kamat for his next project which revolves around a politician. It will be announced soon.

The source further says, The film is based on the life of a popular leader from Maharashtra. Being the son of the late Congress politican Vilasrao Deshmukh, politics is a familiar territory for him.

Riteish enjoys shooting for Grand Masti

Actor Riteish Deshmukh, who has worked with director Indra Kumar in his films "Masti", "Dhamaal" and "Double Dhamaal", is currently shooting for "Grand Masti".

"Shooting for 'Grand Masti'. Life gets so easy when your director Indra Kumar is a fantastic actor himself, " tweeted the 33-year-old Sunday.

The film is a sequel to 2004 hit "Masti", which also featured actors Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi.

It seems the actor has a special attachment with sequels. This year he featured in "Housefull 2" and "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum", which were sequels to "Housefull" and "Kyaa Kool Hai Hum", respectively.

Riteish buys a team in Celebrity Cricket League

Get ready to see Riteish Deshmukh in an all-new avatar. The actor has purchased a cricket team that is part of the Celebrity Cricket League. Incidentally, Riteish was the vice captain of the Mumbai Heroes team owned by Sohail Khan

The league was expanding with two new teams and Riteish is said to have jumped at the opportunity. Our source says, Riteish has named his team Veer Marathi and will be roping in the leading actors from the Marathi film industry.

Stop That! Riteish mediates between Ramu and Karan Johar

The ongoing love-hate relationship between filmmakers Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma, with both parties exchanging barbed and/or veiled insults, has now reached a flashpoint. 

Ramu's recent, apparently sarcastic, tweets about Karan Johar's Student Of The Year has again brought the Johar-Varma animosity out in the weapon. 

Ramu's torrent of tweets include such gems of sardonicism as, `I rate Karan Johar far far higher (sic.) than Mehboob Khan, V Shantaram, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt and Bimal Roy` and `Kuch Kuch ho gaya mujhe Student Of The Year trailer dekhte dekhte`.

At a magazine launch, when KJo was asked about Ramu's tweets, he stated, `I feel like the most important person on the earth... I realised he is still alive, you know I really got worried for a moment because I thought we have lost him, so, I don't want such a great filmmaker to ever, ever leave us. So, I am so happy, ` Karan added. 

Apparently KJo who likes to give back Ramu as much he gets this time asked a mutual friend to tell the virulent Varma to back off. 

And that friend is none other than Riteish Deshmukh. 

Says our source, `Riteish has the distinctive advantage of being close friends with both Ramu and Karan. so he was deputed to mediate and put an end to the sarcastic tweets at a time when Karan is trying to wrap up the film on schedule. ` 
Riteish apparently rang up Ram Gopal Varma asking him to `back off`. 

One doesn't know if Ramu took Ritesh's advice seriously. Or whether he laughed it off. 

Says our source, `It is unlikely that Ramu who loves tweeting for effect, would stop doing so just because he was asked not to do it. He is the kind of guy who would do exactly what he's urged not to.

Riteish offered Rs 2 crore ad

Thanks to his Marathi mulga image, sources say that the actor has been offered a Marathi ad worth Rs 2 crore by a telecom company

With a relatively good year at the box office, Riteish Deshmukh is on a high. Close on the heels of news that he will soon start work on his upcoming Marathi production, looks like the actor is all set to take his Marathi mulga image forward. Word is that he has been offered a Marathi ad from a cellular network brand.

A source informs, He has received a very generous offer from a mobile network brand that is looking at strengthening its foothold in Maharashtra. Riteish is popularly known as Maharashtra's poster boy.

The brand couldn't think of anyone but him to be their face. The source adds that the brand honchos have also asked the actor to pitch in with his creative inputs for the making of the ad.

Our informer adds, Riteish has apparently been offered as much as Rs 2 crore for one year for endorsing this brand.

I am glad that I had great sex education

Sex education is an important subject, says Riteish

Riteish Deshmukh has turned producer with Marathi movie "Balak Palak", which deals with curiosity about sex among adolescents. The actor says it is high time people should talk about it openly.

" 'BP' ('Balak Palak') as a subject deals with such curiosity that leads them (children) to seeking answers in an absolutely adventurous and comical way.

At the end of it, of course, there is a message - it's about parents and teachers knowing the right time and the right way to handle the subject," Riteish said.

"I think it's about time we talk about these things and not beep words. Sex education is an important subject and I am glad that I had great sex education in my school," he added.

Directed by Ravi Jadhav, "Balak Palak" is based on the Marathi play with the same name and the music has been composed by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravijani.

"I always thought that as I work in the Hindi film industry, so producing Hindi films will be easy because I understand the dynamics of Bollywood quite well.

But when such a topic comes in front of you, you think that you should be associated with it in some way," the 33-year-old said here Wednesday at the promo launch of the film.

Riteish's Grand Masti on Hold

In an industry alleged to be driven only by opportunism it is heartening to see some people actually put aside their own interests for emotional reasons.

The sequel to Masti entitled Grand Masti was scheduled to take off earlier this week. But now because of Riteish Deshmukh's father Vilasrao Deshmukh critical health condition, the film's commencement has been put off by a few days.

Says a source close to the project, Grand Masti, the sequel to Masti has been in the writing process for the last one and a half years.

Finally writer Milap Zaveri cracked an idea and scripted the sequel. The film brings back the Riteish-Aftab Shivdasani -Vivek Oberoi trio, along with four new girls. Grand Masti was supposed to kickstart this week. Then Riteish's father fell ill. He can't be expected to act funny at a time like this.

A suggestion that the film take off without Riteish. was also put forward. But producer Ashok Thakeria and director Indra Kumar refused, arguing that a comedy is a happy occasion and therefore all the actors needed to be comfortable.

When contacted producer Thakeria said, We hope to start shooting from the 9th. We've waited 8 years to start the sequel. So a little bit of delay is not a big deal.

Police complaint filed against Kya Super Kool Hain Hum

A complaint was Wednesday registered against producer, director and actors of Hindi film "Kya Super Kool Hain Hum" for hurting religious sentiments, police said.

Complainant Joseph Dias said that some scenes and dialogues of the film hurt sentiments of Christians and made a mockery of priests.

"The priest is shown in a poor light and hence the film has made a mockery of the Christian sacrament of marriage and the faith. It is a misrepresentation of priests and the community. The dialogues with double meaning are unprintable," said Dias, general secretary of the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at Mumbai's Bandra police station under Sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, police said.

"A complaint has been registered against the producer, director, writer, actors of the film and others," said an official from the police station.

The FIR did not mention names of the filmmakers or the actors, he said.

"We are investigating the matter and will make arrests if the actors or the filmmakers are found guilty," the official said.

"Kya Super Kool Hai Hum" is produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Sachin Yardi. A sequel to the 2006 film "Kya Kool Hai Hum", it has Tusshar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma in lead roles.

Asha Bhosle grooves with Riteish

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle shook a leg with actor Riteish Deshmukh as they took on the "Indian Idol 6" stage for a jugalbandi.

Riteish, along with his "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" co-star Tusshar Kapoor, visited the sets of the musical reality show to promote their movie.

After all the performances were over, Riteish requested judge Asha to join him on stage for a small jugalbandi round. She obliged and joined him on stage and the duo was seen grooving to the beats of a marathi song.

People enjoy Naughty Comedies

Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor have teamed up again for Kya Super Kool Hai Hum, a sequel to 2005 surprise hit Kya Kool Hai Hum. Sreya Basu in conversation with the actors in Mumbai

Do you think all audiences can relate to a film like Kya Super Kool Hai Hum? 
Riteish: When we came up with Kya Kool Hai Hum, we were not sure how audience will receive it. But the film had its own audience and was successful at the box office. So now we have made Part 2 of the film after almost seven years of the first one. 

Kya Kool Hai Hum was a naughty comedy and so is Kya Super Kool Hai Hum only more exciting, crazier, wilder and cooler. I am sure a lot of people enjoy naughty comedies. 

Do you think the film will be a bigger hit than the first one? 
Tusshar: I don’t know about that. But all of us have worked really hard. Also, the script of this film is more entertaining than the first one. We made our focused group to hear the draft and started shooting only after they liked it.

We have tried to make a very, very good film. I think the audiences will make a film hit only if it is a good one, without comparing it with the first part. They just want their money’s worth…they want entertainment worth Rs 200 that they are paying for a ticket. 
Naughty comedy has become a trend today… 
Riteish: We are not talking about trends. Years back we did Kya Kool Hai Hum which was a huge hit. So it’s not that we are not bringing something very new. We are sticking to our genre and just updating it with the kind of humour that people like today. Audiences have matured today and we made sure the film has impact on youths who were below 18 seven years back. 

Do you think just the humour factor is enough to make the film a hit?
Tusshar: Not at all. The foundation, that is, the story and screenplay have to be good so that the audiences get engrossed. Then you have to add the humour, jokes, dialogues, etc. We tried our best. Now I hope the novelty factor works for us. 
Riteish, you have even sung in the film. How was it?
Riteish: It was great. When Meet Brothers told me that there are four stanzas in the song Hum toh hain cappuccino that have to be sung in Marathi, I was glad that they chose me. We had a great fun recording the song.

After that, Meet Brothers told me, Let us have a Marathi version of Cappucino. So then, we had an entire Marathi Cappuciono recorded…it has the same tune but different lyrics. 

The songs from the film are already topping music charts. What are your favourite numbers?
Tusshar: Every day there is a different one. Right now it’s Hum toh hai cappuccino…it keeps ringing in my ears. There is something about the song that has germs of a hit. 

Riteish: I like Shirt Ka Button very much. It’s an absolute romantic song and the lyrics are very different. Also, the way the song has been choreographed is really good…there is no comedy, whatever the guys are saying it’s from their hearts. 
The pug Fakru plays an important role in the film. Tell us more about him. 
Tusshar: Well, he is the third hero of the film. He is a man of today and very generous. He believes sharing is caring. He is very loyal and the bread-earner of the family.

Are you considering a third part?
Tusshar: Why not? If a third part is made, definitely we (Riteish and I) will star together in it. But this time it will be quicker and not after a seven-year-gap.

Riteish Deshmukh shoots for 18 straight hours

Riteish Deshmukh shot for the promos of his upcoming sequel for 18 hours at a stretch

The actor took two hours break in between his shoot to dub for the same film. Not only that, the actors also took active participation in the styling and choreography during the shoot.

The promo directors and choreographers were delighted to work with him. One crewmember says, “Riteish kept all of us on our toes. He kept working towards making the dance moves and promo shots bigger and better with his own unique tadka. It was just so much fun.”

In 2005, "Kyaa Kool Hai Hum" wrote a new chapter in the genre of comedy films and its much awaited sequel promises to tickle our funny bone once again. One gets a feel of it through the soundtrack of "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" -- a peppy and funny album, totally in sync with the essence of the movie.

The album starts off with "Dil garden garden ho gaya", which has Vishal Dadlani crooning in his high-pitched voice well supported by modern techno sounds. The track has a very youthful touch and is bound to be noticed. It also has a remixed version, which isn't radically different from the original track.

Some electronic beats have been added to the composition, but the remixed song fails to create the desired effect. It's better to stick with the original.

Next up is "Shirt da button". It is an unusual title for a romantic song. The lyrics are a bit comical, but Sonu Nigam's voice carries the track on its shoulder and delivers it with perfection. Sonu has sung it so beautifully that the song touches you instantly.

The use of handclaps to give it a qawwali feel in between also works well for the composition. It also has a second version, albeit in a slower avatar.


The alternate track has been sung by the soulful Kailash Kher in a mellowed down manner. It has more of a qawwali touch, which takes one back to the song "Tu jaane na" from "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani". It's hard to choose the better one here as both the versions are equally compelling and are an absolute treat to the ears.


"Hum toh hain cappuccino (UP-Bihar lootne)" is a twisted version of Shilpa Shetty's famed dance number "UP-Bihar lootne". It has vocals by Daler Mehndi, Sukhwinder Singh, Swaroop and actor Riteish Deshmukh. 

The song fills you with nostalgia and instantly grows on you with the array of voices that keep you hooked. The song has a very raw feel and has a surprise as Riteish donned the writer's hat and penned the Marathi lyrics for it.

Next up is an out and out dance number titled "Volume high karle". Sung by NeerajSridhar, the song is high on electronic and techno beats, but the lyrics are very ordinary and the composition deserved a better treatment.

It also has a remixed version, which like the original, falls short of expectations. Even with the addition of powerful beats, it doesn't create the desired effect.

The final verdict - the music of "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" has some highs and lows, but deserves a hear as it manages to lift your 'kool' quotient.

Ekta: 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' series is Bollywood's answer to 'American Pie' series

She describes "Kyaa Kool Hai Hum" series as Bollywood's answer to "American Pie" series. But Ekta Kapoor is miffed that the censor board has snipped three scenes from the theatrical trailer of "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum". She blames it to existing prejudices in the Hindi film industry.

Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs Of Wasseypur" had coarse and crass language too, but it released without cuts. So what is the hullabaloo around "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum"?

She replied saying, "There's a big difference here. That's Anurag Kashyap - you know how it is. Everything that Balaji (Motion Pictures) does or any mainstream filmmaker does, will always be considered to be cheap and crass." 

"If Dibakar (Banerjee) would have made this film, it would have a totally different effect. So we always suffer prejudices in Bollywood, and we just fight constantly, " she added. 

The 37-year-old is upset that the censors are not letting the movie's original promos reach the theatres, but she doesn't blame them for double standards either.

"We never had issues in the film's first part. I think our society was so much cooler at that time. Now suddenly everyone raises a question, everyone asks 15 questions. So we have a sanitised, boring promo in the theatre for the ones who will be seeing 'Bol Bachchan', " said Ekta who was in town to show the uncut version of the trailer.

"A-rating programming is allowed on TV after 11 p.m., then also we are not allowed to show anything. There is so much prohibition in society for everything and because anyone can raise a question. Everyone is so scared. I don't blame the censors. They are under so much pressure. People are ready to file a PIL (public interest litigations) against everything... it's really curbing the creativity." 

"I thought the first part of my series in 2005 would have to face all this. We are in 2012, for god's sake! It really seems like the world is coming to an end, " she quipped.

But she points out the biggest challenge is that "any kind of double meaning in Hindi sounds crass". 

"Very strong research once said that the real problem with our language is that it is so restrictive. The American language has extended itself to slangs and made itself more colloquial, " Ekta observed.

"Hindi has not taken any such extension because of which there has been stagnation in the language. So it is much tougher to write a Hindi comedy with double meaning because we didn't want to go crass, " added the filmmaker, who has produced films like "Love Sex Aur Dhokha", "Ragini MMS" and "The Dirty Picture".

However, she believes the Sachin Yardi-directed movie, releasing July 27, has adult humour in measured amount. 

"We wanted to go funny with adult humour. Some portions could probably hurt some sensibilities. But on the whole, the film has tried to keep its humour funny without being offensive, " she said.

Cracking jokes in Hindi is an uphill task "because they sound worse than they sound in English, " said Ekta. 

" 'Delhi Belly' was made in English because they clearly realised the power of that language in making things sound much better than they are.

"For us, it has been a struggle to make Hindi a language where double meaning doesn't go into becoming another lowest common denominator and this just turns out to be another film, " said the filmmaker. 

She has brought her brother Tusshar Kapoor and actor Riteish Deshmukh together after seven years for the franchise, which hits the screens July 27.

Riteish is embarrassed of his 'Super Kool' act

Naughty comedy "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" is set to come out and Riteish Deshmukh, one of the leading actors in it, says it's embarrassing to play his character in the film.

"Of course, it is embarrassing. The character in the film calls disk as d***s. There are still many people who call it as d***s and women think it differently. I am not ashamed but embarrassed of 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum', " he said.

A sequel to "Kyaa Kool Hai Hum", the film has "certain things that we do and there are certain things that the film demands, " said the actor.

"When you actually enact some scene, you feel that what am I doing? Have we lost it? But that's the humour and it is done in a very innocent way.

"It's a naughty comedy. The genre itself suggests that there are going to be some naughty stuff. You will get to see lot of non-veg stuff in the film, buts it's suggestive not directive, " he added.

Directed by Sachin Yardi and produced by Ekta Kapoor, "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" also sees Tusshar Kapoor, Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma.

It is slated for a July 27 release.
