RIYAS BENGALI DEBUT WITH RITUPARNO

Riya Sen has been a successful actress in Bollywood. But she has been declining offers of entering into Bengali films.

But, she agreed to do her Bengali film debut in director Rituparno Ghosh's film ‘Abohamaan’.

You may recall that Riya had in the past always refused every offer she got for Bengali movies.

As she wanted to start her career in Bengali films with a Rituparno Ghosh film only.

When asked about the story of ‘Abohamaan’, the director says that it is the story of a Bengali filmmaker who marries an actress.

The latter sacrifices her career for love and marriage with the filmmaker. Later.

The director falls in love with another young actress and that leads to a scandal! Riya has a tiny yet significant role, and it is her introduction to Bengali cinema, according to director Ghosh.

Dipankar Dey, Jisshu Sengupta, Mamata Shankar and Ananya Chatterjee play vital roles in the flick. The flick was screened on November 1, 20090 during the 11th Mumbai Film Festival which started Oct 29, 2009 and would conclude on Nov 5, 2009. Significantly, Riya's second Bengali movie is also a Rituparno Ghosh film titled ‘Nouka Dubi’ which is scheduled to release in 2010.
