The 76-year-old who is still winning rave reviews for his film roles, said that he is humbled at being chosen for an award whose previous recipients include Rajeev Gandhi and the Dalai Lama.
"I feel really happy and honoured. And this award is special as it has been instituted in the name of Mother Teresa, the saint who served the poorest of our country," Chopra said.
The actor, who has done nearly 400 films over a career spanning five decades, will receive the award at a function in Kolkata on March 3.
"I don't believe in charity for the sake of it and do not talk about the work that I do," said Chopra, whose distinct style and one-liners including the hit, "Prem Naam hai mera... Prem Chopra", from Bobby, are recognised by film goers worldwide.
