Sachin, Rekha join Parliamentary standing committees

Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood actor Rekha, who took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs, have been included in standing committees of Parliament.

Tendukar has been made a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Technology on Thursday.

The committee deals with matters related to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Department of Posts and the Department of Telecommunications.

The committee, which is comprised of 31 members, is examining the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Second Amendment Bill, 2011 at present.

Rekha, on the other hand, has been made a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution.

The panel is comprised of 31 members and it is examining the Bureau of Indian Standards (Amendment) Bill, 2012, the National Food Security Bill, 2011, the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2011 and the Warehousing Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2011.

Indian President Pratibha Patil approved the names of Rekha and Tendulkar for nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament earlier this year.
