Abhinav Kashyap wants a bigger share in Ranbir's pie

The director's demand for more stakes in film with Ranbir Kapoor causes studio to get cold feet

Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap who was all set to start his next project Besharam with Ranbir Kapoor has suffered a roadblock. The film was to be produced by Abhinav and backed by Studio 18. But the production house has now decided to drop out. Apparently Kashyap had put in some terms which were unacceptable to them.

Says a source, `Abhinav wanted 75 per cent of the profits for the film which the studio officials felt was not reasonable as he was already getting a remuneration. The film would have gone very high on budget so they had to back out. Now Abhinav is looking for another producer to take on his film.
A source from the production house however maintains, `It is not as if the deal is closed from our end. We are still discussing it. Abhinav is close to the production house's CEO Vikram Malhotra.

They feel that Abhinav is being unreasonable, as the production house does not believe in buying big budget films. However since Abhinav feels that the film will have huge profits and he has a star like Ranbir, he deserves the price. So, the matter is right now at a standstill.`

A source close to the director maintains, `Abhinav is asking for 33 per cent of the profit as his fees and 33 per cent profit as a production house. The terms were decided long ago but they now want to renegotiate and he is unhappy with that.`

Abhinav had been signed for the film immediately after he decided to walk out of the Dabangg sequel. However it is only recently that the script was finalised and Ranbir signed on. The star essays a thief in the film.
