Hawa Hawai girl Sridevi turns 49


Bollywood diva Sridevi, who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and a few Kannada films turned 49 on Monday.

Born as Shree Amma Yanger on Aug 13, 1963, the actress started her career as a child artist at the age of four years.

Sridevi got her first big break as the leading lady in the Tamil film 'Moondru Mudichu', where she shared the screen with south superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

Besides acting in numerous Tamil, Telegu and Malayalam films, she literally ruled Bollywood (Hindi film industry) in 1980s and early 1990s with films like 'Mr India', 'Nagina', 'Sadma', 'Tohfa', 'Chandni', 'Aakhree Raasta', 'Chaalbaaz', 'Lamhe' and 'Khuda Gawah'.

The actress won four Filmfare awards for films like 'Meendum Kokila', 'ChaalBaaz', 'Kshana Kshanam' and 'Lamhe'.

After having two successful decades in the industry, the actress married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and left the industry in 1997 to raise her daughters Jhanvi and Khushi.

The actress later made her comeback in the small screen with a serial named 'Malini Iyer' (2004-2005).

Sridevi has often been regarded as 'The First Female Superstar of the Indian Cinema' and has been an inspiration for many leading stars of the generation.

Once speaking about this diva, actress Kareena Kapoor said that Sridevi is her hero and Sridevi is the reason why most girls of her generation became actresses.

The actress will make her Bollywood comeback with the film 'English Vinglish', which is scheduled to release in 2012.
