Ashim Ahluwalia on why he sees no point in submitting his film for the Censor Board's approval
Over the past weekend, Ashim Ahluwalia's Miss Lovely was showcased at the ongoing film festival in the city. Incidentally, the feature film, which has been showcased at several circuits worldwide including Cannes, is yet to have a commercial release in India. Reason being that the filmmaker sees no point in submitting his film for censorship.
Instead, Ashim prefers to be frank about the ground realities when it comes to his kind of cinema.
The 40-year-old filmmaker points out, First of all, it's a dark film and not meant for family viewership. The story revolves around the underbelly and deals with pornography and nudity as well. And it'd be hard for me to compromise on my artistic integrity.
However, the film has managed to receive limited releases in countries like France, Germany, Korea and Japan. Filmmakers like me are forced to act according to the whims of censorship. Besides, I'll have to wait for the kind of reception I'll receive from the Censor Board because they have no set patterns, Ashim rues.
