He directed actor Shahrukh Khan in four films namely Darr, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Veer-Zaara and latest being Jab Tak Hai Jaan but SRK owed a large chunk of his fame to Yash Chopra, with whom he worked in a handful of films produced under the YRF banner.
Darr(1993)
A violent love story- A protagonist who was an anti-hero Shah Rukh Khan went on to win the best villain award for the film. Not only did he set a new trend of an anti hero in Hindi film but raised his stardom.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
It was the first Hindi film that was designed to appeal to Indian diaspora around the world. Filmmakers started to make films that catered to NRI audience. The film marked the debut of Yash Chopra's son Aditya Chopra it was one of the first Hindi films that took its title from a film song. The film became the biggest hit of the year, as well as one of the biggest Bollywood hits ever. The film won 10 Filmfare Awards, the most ever for a single film at that time, and also won the National Award for being the most popular film of the year. It is still playing at Maratha Mandir cinema in Mumbai.
Dil Toh Pagal Hain(1997)
Yash Chopra returned to direction after a gap of five years to direct a musical. Shah Rukh Khan calls it a complete turnaround for Yash Chopra who worked with Shaimak Davar and his troupe with modern day dancing. It was the first Hindi film to be shot in Baden-Baden, Germany, and in the German theme park Europa Park.
Mohabbatein (2000)
Aditya Chopra's second directorial venture saw him bring Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan together. The film also saw the debut of six newcomers and was shot at Oxford in England.
Veer Zaara(2004)
It was a cross border romance that was reintroduced by Yash Chopra who came back to direct Shah Rukh Khan again after Dil To Pagal Hai. The film was inspired from human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jehangir. The music of the film, based on old compositions by the late Madan Mohan with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, was also successful.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
Aditya Chopra who had focused himself on being just a producer came back to direction after a eight year gap. He directed Shah Rukh and Anushka Sharma for a romantic comedy. The pre-release buzz of the film took a beating because of the terror attack but the film went on to become a big hit.
Chak De! India (2007 )
A story of disgraced sport player who attempts to redeem himself by becoming a coach of women hockey team and helps them win the gold. It was the first film Shah Rukh Khan acted which was directed by a non-chopra for Yash raj banner.
