Why So Serious, Tabu?

Tabu talks about her equation with Irrfan her movie 'Life Of Pi' and not being media-shy

The AC is too high and Tabu is shivering. And while she's at it, she manages to quip that cold climate makes her say stuff she doesn't want to.

Thus she breaks that 'serious image' we've created of her for so long now. The acclaimed actress is self-confessedly choosy about films and that shows on her filmography. Quite a regular in crossover movies, she will be seen next in Ang Lee's upcoming 3D film. In a tête-a-tête with B-S, the tall actress talks about her equation with Irrfan and not being media-shy:

No single factor
When you look at the final result, you should just feel delighted to be part of the project. That's what I feel like. I don't care how big or small my role is. It's not necessary that all the stories you do should centre around you.

That way, I'll never be able to do a film! I do movies on impulse. There's no one factor that makes me want to say yes or no to a script. The most basic of all would be to have an interesting story where my character has a strong part to play.
Serious? Who me?
It's funny that I'm often assumed to be a non-funny person. Maybe the perception has something to do with the kind of films I have done. Anyway, acting is one thing and what you're off the camera is another. I love to crack jokes and laugh like anybody else.

Media techniques
I'm not media-shy as such but at the same time, I prefer to keep to myself and appear only when my work expects me to. That's the reason you don't see much of me otherwise. Besides, what's the point in blurring that line that divides personal from public life?
On contemporary actresses
I think all of them have excelled in their own way because they bring something unique to the screen. That's when fan following begins and people want to see you more. Or else, they won't be working in the first place. It's a very demanding industry. And in any case, the audience needs to be spoilt for choices!

Dream roles
I always wanted to work with Ang Lee, especially after watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I'd love to do a film like that where you're flying and doing stuff which you only do in dreams. Apart from being a brilliant director, Ang is a wonderful human being.
Irrfan and I
Irrfan and I share a funny friendship because it is based on the jokes we keep cracking on sets. He appreciates my sense of humour and quips that I should marry someone who has a good sense of humour like I do! He's my guide in world cinema as he's very aware of it.
