Delhi makes women stronger: Kainaz

She hails from Mumbai, but actress Kainaz Motivala of "Ragini MMS" fame feels the atmosphere in the capital makes women strong.

"Delhi is considered as an unsafe city for women, but I think it makes them more strong and gives them power to fight for their safety, " Kainaz told.

The actress, recently seen in "Challo Driver", admits that before visiting Delhi, she didn't have a good opinion about the city, where she shot the movie. But that is changing now.

"Delhi is far better than Mumbai as it is less crowded. After coming here I realised how rocking this city is. I visited places like Delhi Haat, Khan Market and Chandni Chowk where I had the best food items, I loved it, " she said.

Girls more responsible than boys: Challo Driver actor-director

Watching a girl driving a man in a car left Vickrant Mahajan with a unique story idea for a Bollywood film. The result? "Challo Driver".

His movie highlights how women are making a mark for themselves and entering man's space by taking up a chauffer's job.

While several men feel women don't make safe drivers, Vickrant, who has made his directorial as well as acting debut with the film, believes otherwise.

"Girls and boys can drive a car equally well, and girls are more responsible than boys, " Vickrant told.

"Once when I was driving in Delhi, I saw a car passing by. A lady was driving the car and the boy was sitting behind. After seeing this, the concept of the film occurred to me."

"I think now girls are aware enough and watchful enough, " he said.

"Challo Driver", which features Kainaz Motivala playing a female chauffer named Tanya, released Friday. The movie is made on a low budget, and Vickrant just wants the audience to seek small joys from it.

"Films should be made so that the audience enjoys. It is not about making Rs.100 crore, a film should make you happy. It is important that the audience likes the movie, the cost does not matter, " he said.

God willing if "if my audience likes my content, I will make more films. If they don't, then I have to rethink my work. It is important that the audience likes it."

Kainaz Motivala doesn't want to be typecast

Actress Kainaz Motivala, who shot to fame after Ekta Kapoor's horror thriller "Ragini MMS", says she got many offers after the film, but they were all of the same kind and she does not want to be typecast.

"After 'Ragini...' I got many offers. Had I been in a hurry to sign a film I would have done many films by now, but those would have tagged me as a bold film actress. I don't want to be known as an actor who will do same kind of films. I want to be known as someone who is versatile," Kainaz told.

Just three films old in the industry, the 25-year-old says the journey of a newcomer is not easy in Bollywood compared to star children.

"I thought it will be easy, but it's not like that. One needs to be really strong because there are people who are ready to pull you down at the drop of a hat. It is a very competitive world.

"As compared to people from outside the industry like me, star kids have an easy path. It's definitely not fair and I am not going to be diplomatic about that," she added.

The petite actress, who made her Bollywood debut in "Wake Up Sid", will now be seen in "Challo Driver" that releases Friday.

In the film, smitten by the charm of actor Aamir Khan, Kainaz will be seen as a chauffeur and says she would like to take the actor Aamir for a ride in real life.

"Aamir is such an inspiration, I would love to talk to him about his films. He is such a successful and fine actor but every time you see his movie there is freshness just like a newcomer. Every character that he portrays is very inspiring," Kainaz said.

"Challo Driver" has been produced and directed by debutant Vickrant Mahajan.

Kainaz 'Bold' Motivala was flooded with offers of sex films

Actress Kainaz Motivala, who will soon be seen in the role of a chauffeur in "Challo Driver", says she chose this unusual role as she wanted to shed her bold image that she acquired after her debut film "Ragini MMS".

"That's exactly why I took up this film. After 'Ragini MMS' I was flooded with offers of similar roles - sex films, bold films. It had become Kainaz 'Bold' Motivala and I did not like that tag at all, and I had to get rid of that tag somehow," the 25-year-old actress said here Wednesday at a promotional press conference of the film.

"When I could have starred in 10 films, I decided I'd much rather wait and do one good film which will rid me of that tag because I didn't want to get typecast. The best thing about an actor is that you do something different everyday. I am open to any genre and I definitely don't want to do just one thing," she added.

She enjoyed playing the driver's role and says it was not at all difficult.

"Driving is a complete stress buster for me. Not in Mumbai, here it is more of a stress giver than a stress buster. But I do enjoy driving when the roads are empty," said Kainaz, who was also seen in small roles in "Paathshala" and "Wake Up Sid."

What was challenging was to play a Delhi girl convincingly.

"Preparing as a chauffeur was not a problem because I have been driving since I was 18. But I had to prepare, in the sense, this girl is from Delhi and Delhi girls are different from Mumbai girls in many ways. That is what I had to work on," said Kainaz.

Vickrant Mahajan plays the male lead and he has also directed "Challo Driver".

The film also stars Prem Chopra and Manoj Pahwa and hits theatres July 20.

Kainaz wants to take Aamir for a drive

"Ragini MMS fame" actress Kainaz Motivala, who is set to play a chauffeur in "Challo Driver", says if she was to take a Bollywood star on a drive, she would love to have Aamir Khan in the passenger seat.

The actress says she saw the episode of Aamir's show "Satyamev Jayate", in which a female chauffeur made an appearance, and Aamir commented he would want to hire her when he visits the city next.

This made Kainaz very happy and excited and now she wants to take him around Delhi since she has been well-versed with the roads of the city, said a source.

Directed by debutant Vickrant Mahajan, "Challo Driver" is a romantic comedy that also features Prem Chopra and Manoj Pahwa. The film is slated to release July 20.

Dangerous curves ahead: Kainaz Motivala turns chauffeur

'Ragini MMS' star Kainaz Motivala is portraying a female chauffeur in her upcoming film 'Challo Driver' 

Her Bollywood career may not be going at a great speed, but Kainaz Motivala is all set to add some pace to her onscreen portrayal — by playing a driver in her next! After Deepika Padukone played a no-nonsense cabbie in Bachna Ae Haseeno, Kainaz will don the chauffeur’s uniform in the film directed by debutant Vikrant Mahajan.

"I loved the script and the fact that it is not a usual, run-of-the-mill character. I liked the character of a Delhi girl looking for excitement and with a desire to prove a point to the sexist society," Kainaz said in a statement.

There was another factor that she loved about the film. "Since I knew driving, I had a lot of fun driving few of the best cars for the film," she added. 


The 25-year-old, who made her big screen debut in Wake Up Sid but was noted more for the horror-thriller Ragini MMS, says she instantly liked the character of a Delhi girl looking for excitement and with a desire to prove a point to the sexist society. 

Kainaz is glad that the role is not the usual run-of-the-mill character and will see the female lead taking control, and quite literally, in the driver’s seat.

“Whatever you do, at the end of the day, it’s the audience who decide your fate, ” she adds saying that she is trying her bit not to feel the pressure of expectations. On whether she knew how to drive before signing up for the film, Kainaz quips while laughing, “Of course, I did. What did you expect?”
