Neha Dhupia to be Navy's special guest

Neha Dhupia has always felt strongly about the Indian Armed Forces and is always ready to lend her support to them

As her father Commander Pradip Singh Dhupia is part of the Indian Navy, the actress has grown up in a navy environs.

But what she's most thrilled about now is the invitation to be the guest of honour at Kadamba as part of the ongoing Navy Week celebrations. Kadamba is an Indian navy base located near Karwar in Karnataka and is the country's third operational naval base, after Mumbai and Visakhapatnam.

Says a source, On Thursday, Neha returned from Bali after a short vacation. She made sure that she returned in time to travel to Kadamba to attend the Navy Day celebrations this weekend. She feels it is an honour for her to be present there.

Adds the source, During her younger day she used to attend such events along with her family and watch the chief guests doing the honours. Now she will be the centre of attraction, so it is a big high for her to be present at such an event.

Incidentally, Neha had also visited Kargil and spent some time at the army camp as part of the Kargil Day celebrations in July.

Neha Dhupia becomes theft victim

Neha Dhupia's tablet computer was flicked during an event in Ahmedabad

Neha Dhupia's iPad got stolen in Ahmedabad earlier this week. The actress was in Gujarat on Monday to attend a luxury car showroom event opening. While going about the proceedings and addressing the audience, she had kept it with her manager. But due to the large milling crowd, someone flicked it and disappeared in the rush.

Says a source, A lot of people had gathered around when they realised Neha was to be present. Someone seems to have taken advantage of the situation and picked it up.

Adds the source, As soon as Neha realised it, she panicked as it had all her bank information. Her online banking details were configured on it. There were also plenty of personal pictures, her date diary and contact list. A frantic search was immediately launched but due to the huge crowd it was difficult to trace the culprit.
Neha immediately launched a police complaint as well. The source continues, The local police is still looking for the culprit.

While leaving for Ahmedabad from Mumbai, Neha was feeling unwell as she had a toothache and the robbery only made her feel worse. Her representative has been in constant touch with the cops over the issue.

Meanwhile Neha had to leave for Bali on Wednesday so she's keeping tabs on the case from there. She's hoping the cops find the culprit as the person might misuse her personal data.

Movie Review: Rush lacks punch, but has some riveting moments

Ouch, the tv channels won't be flattered. Rush, like Ram Gopal Varma's Rann three years ago, rushes into the cut-throat world of TRP-driven competition among news channels where news if not discovered is created in the newsroom. So Ram Gopal Varma told us in Rann.

And now director Shamin Desai (who passed away before the film could be released) takes us into the ostensibly murky chat-room politics of new channels where news-baron Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi, unintentionally hilarious) gets reporters, civilians, politicians and criminals bumped off to make news. Just like that. 

Far-fetched, yes. But Rush has its adrenaline-rushing moments in the second-half when the narrative picks up momentum and moves steadily towards a climax that is not entirely edge-of-the-seat.

But certainly the popcorn on your lap is likely to ignored for a bit as ambitious crime reporter Sam Grover (Emraan Hashmi) gets sucked into a web of crime created by his over-reaching dangerously-connected channel- (dick)head of a boss. 
Rush is not the first film about a yonng ambitious professional losing moral and ethical equilibrium to attain success. Recently we had Kunal Khemu in Blood Money and Paoli Dam in Hate Story reaping the bitter fruits of their savage harvest. 

More closely, Rush resembles Goldie Behl's Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai where Abhishek Bachchan got trapped into a glamorous web of grime by media baron Jackie Shroff. 

Sushmita Sen had played the suave chic assistant to Shroff who took Abhishek under her sexy wings. In Rush it's Neha Dhupia, every bit as suave and chic as Ms Sen, playing the media baron's right-hand woman who gets too close to the Hashmi boy for comfort. 

And yes, they even share a furtive kiss in a long-shot (why the coyness!) to ensure Hashmi's hardcore following doesn't commit suicide. 

Rush does have its sluggish chunks in the storytelling. But the narrative gathers strength from the basic plot structure where a television journalist is shown to be on the run. Some of the chase sequences are expertly done. And the whole theme of the newsmaker's descent into compromised journalism makes for some riveting moments. 

While many of the characters are sketchy some like the sharp-shooter (played by Murli Sharma) who befriends our journalist-hero provide the plot with a spicy if not completely pungent propulsion. 
The entire episode after the murder of Emraan's journalist-friend Rikin (played by tv actor Alekh) makes for absorbing viewing. 

Emraan Hashmi as the backbone of plot performs decently. He has more speaking lines and less kissing to do here than in all his recent films. Whether the verbosity actually translates into something substantial or not is debatable. 

Rush has the bone though not enough meat to make for a juicy fare on the excesses of television journalism. It leaves you wondering what director Shamin Desai would have done with his filmmaking career had he lived.

Neha Dhupia has no regrets about cutting her hair

Actress Neha Dhupia, who let go of her long locks for her role of a career woman in "Rush", says it is the biggest risk she has ever taken in her career.

"We thought a lot... whether to do it or not, and took a big risk. As it's wrriten here (on movie's poster) 'Jo aadmi risk nahi leta, uska sab risky ho jaata hai' (A person who doesn't take risks, has a risky life). (So) I think the biggest risk I took was cutting my hair, " the 32-year-old said here Friday in an interview.

But she has no regrets.

"I am missing my hair but glad that people are liking the look. As an actor, it's very important that you just be able to experiment and to be able to do different things all the time. When I got this character, it had to be effortless and at the same time sexy, and had to be a career woman, so short hair was the way to go, " she added.

Meanwhile, Neha says Emraan Hashmi, who plays a mediaperson in the film, is just the opposite of his on screen image in real life.

"Working with Emraan is fabulous. Whatever I say about him is not enough. He is just the opposite of the kind of image he has on screen. He is a little boy at heart, he is full of fun, he is very mischievous on the sets, " Neha said.

Directed by Priyanka Desai, "Rush", releasing Oct 24, also features Sagarika Ghatge and Aditya Pancholi.
