I admit I failed in my first year: Randeep Hooda

Actor Randeep Hooda admits to being not so studious during his college days and he believes that to succeed in life one needs to follow one's passion.

"I hardly studied in college and I got through because I think most of the courses in college are courses in common sense. What you learn in college is outside the class," the 37-year-old told reporters at the St. Xavier's college where he was promoting his film "John Day".

"In college, I used to worry about my future. But ultimately if you do something you are interested in, you will become a champion in it and it has got nothing to do with education," added the actor who carved a niche for himself in the field of modelling and acting.

Randeep says what helps him in his career today is his time spent with friends. 

"I failed in my first year but ultimately I got my degree. But that degree is of no use to me when I stand on stage today. My interpersonal skills and the time spent with my friends is what is helping me. So don't be disheartened and follow your dreams," he said.

Seen in films "Monsoon Wedding", "Cocktai" and "Murder", Randeep's next is "John Day". 

Directed by Ashishor Solomon, "John Day" is a thriller and stars Naseeruddin Shah in the title role, while Randeep plays a police officer.

It will hit theatres Sep 13.

Rang Rasiya to release by year end

Ketan Mehta's much delayed "Rang Rasiya", which has been ready since 2008, is expected to come out by the end of the year.

"It was stuck for three years in some kind of a dispute. . . but now it will come out by the end of the year, " Mehta, who has just completed "Majhi - The Mountain Man", told.

He denied reprots that the film, a tribute to 19th century painter Raja Ravi Varma, was delayed due to the bold scenes picturised on the lead pair - Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen.

"It was not because of the bold scenes. The film was passed by the censor board some three years ago. There were legal disputes, which were holding it back. Those have been lifted, " he said.

Things are not easy when a film's release is halted for so long, he said. 

"It is very tough. A lot of people have put their time, energy and passion into the film. But now 'Rang Rasiya' will see the light of the day, " he said. 

Meanwhile, the director is looking forward to the release of "Manjhi - The Mountain Man", which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte.

Randeep Hooda kicks the butt

Anyone who has quit smoking knows it is quite a tedious process. And no one knows it better than Randeep 

The actor has apparently not touched a cigarette since Diwali. Speaking about the actor who was once known to be a chain smoker, a source says, Randeep was often seen smoking in between shots, after meals and even while having telephonic conversations. But now the actor is keeping away from the temptation to take a puff.

Randeep says, It's been very difficult. I used to smoke three times more when I was on the sets, especially between the shots.

Now, I drink water, eat something or chew a gum when I am really tempted to light up. I started smoking at a very early age, even before I was 18. But I am yet to conquer my temptation fully.

Heading to Australia with family for New Year's

New Year is all about spending the jolly times with family and friends. And Randeep Hooda is doing just the same 
The actor is treating his parents to a holiday Down Under.

A source says, Randeep has been shooting back-to-back for his films. The actor has not had a break for a long time and has decided to spend New Year with his parents. Randeep says, I never take holidays. I often travel for work.

This time I plan to be at the Sydney Harbour Bridge on New Year's Day. The actor, who spent his childhood at boarding school wants to make the most of his time with his folks.

Randeep's success paves way for his Rang Rasiya release

After Randeep Hooda's recent success his film based on artist Raja Ravi Varma co-starring Nandana Sen gets a new lease of life 

Randeep Hooda's long-forgotten film directed and produced by Ketan Mehta is likely to see light of day finally. 

The 2008 costume drama based on the life of the 19th century Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma has Nandana Sen as his co-star. Though the movie was completed and also screened at some film festivals, it did not find any distributors for release. 

Two years ago there was buzz that a distributor had been found but nothing moved on the front. There were apparently some issues due to some sensuous scenes between Randeep and Nandana. 
Says a source, Now that Randeep's last few releases like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and, Jannat 2 fetched him rave reviews the makers have decided to give the film another shot and release it. Randeep also has Madhur Bhandarkar's upcoming film with Kareena Kapoor. The producers feel now is the best time to renew the release plans.

Producer/director Ketan Mehta admits, The film has been stuck. There were certain issues but we have now taken over the project and will release it soon. He adds, I am aware that Randeep is hot property now, so the faster we release it, the better!

Randeep's character inspired by Pak-cricketer Imran Khan?

Apparently, Randeep Hooda's character in 'Heroine' is based on the flamboyant former cricket captain of Pakistan as he was in his heydays

Randeep Hooda, who plays the character of a cricketer in Madhur Bhandarkar's Kareena Kapoor starrer, apparently has his screen persona inspired by Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan. In his heydays the flamboyant player was known for his link ups.

A source informs us, Randeep has been depicted as a charming cricketer who has an affair with an actress, essayed by Kareena.

The character is based on Imran Khan although it is not stated that he is Pakistan cricket team's captain. The character is flamboyant something that Imran Khan was known for off the field.

In the recent past there was buzz that Randeep had been taking tips from ace cricketer Virendar Sehwag for his role of a cricketer in the film. He also went to watch him play during the last India-West Indies cricket match with Naseerudin Shah.

Hooda who was shooting in South Africa remained unavailable for comment.

Movie Review: Jism 2 is an over hyped erotic thriller

With tons of hypes and hullabaloo surrounding the season's most-awaited movie Jism 2, cine goers long wait to catch the hot Sunny Leone in action finally gets over. After soaring the apprehensions, curiosity and speculation arena, finally the most anticipated sex-thriller saga of the year Jism-2 made it to the celluloid.

Eversince the promulgation about Jism-2 and its leading lady was made, the gossip mills pertaining to the movie never ran out of fuel. 

So finally the erotic saga appeared on the silver screen, fetching an opening day occupancy of over 92% at the multiplexes, which primarily comprised of people who wanted to have the first glimpse of Sunny's maiden performance in decorous stream of cinema.

Synopsis
Jism-2 is an erotic tale comprising of lust, sex and betrayal, blended with a bleak dose of action and love where a porn star (or so called porn star), is hired by an intelligence officer to set a honey-trap in order to purloin the sensitive information from a dreaded assassin. 
Story:
The story of the Jism-2 begins with the confession of Izna(Sunny Leone), who is being hired by an Intelligence officer Ayaan ( Arunoday Singh) whom Izna meets in a club.

In the hotel room Ayaan tells Izna, that he is an Intelligence services officer and want to have a deal with her in order to purloin some highly sensitive documents from the possession of a dreaded assassin Kabir Wilson ( Randeep Hooda). 

As the story proceeds, Ayaan takes Izna to Srilanka where the duo meets Ayaan's boss Mr Guru( Arif Zakaria), who briefs Izna about the entire mission. 

With an objective of intruding into the abode of of Kabir, Ayaan and Izna rents an accommodation next to Kabir's home. And from her begins a journey of sex, lust and betrayal, where Sunny tries to lure Kabir in order to accomplish her objective of getting those secret documents. 
Script
It won't be wrong to say that, Jism-2 is a tale with a flimsy spine, which looks like a saga written to secure a berth for Sunny in Bollywood. As far as story line and its flow is concerned then script provides and abrupt start to the movie where the narration of the Sunny with in no time is followed by the action mode.

Script of the Jism-2 seems to be hasty because the succession of the sequences is jotted in such a manner that it somewhat becomes simply indigestible for the cine goers. With Izna meeting Ayaan and with in no time accepting his offer of becoming his pawn to purloin the sensitive information from Kabir is one of the conspicuous example of this.

Through out the course of story, the script seemed to be pouncing towards obtruded intimate sequences. As the story proceeds, the primary plot seems to be getting ostracized. Though Jism-2 is a typical combo of "love, lust and dhokha", but still it completely fails in developing a concrete plot to keep the fans cine sense glued to the big screen. 
Dialogues: 
As far as the dialogues are concerned, then Jism-2 has unconventional romantic dialogues, dabbled in the treacle of philosophy, which again lead to the emergence of monotony in already crumbling script.

In dialogues department writer Shagufta Rafique tried to lends a certain zing to the brew, but could not succeed in doing anything messianic for Jism-2.

Screenplay / Direction 
As a director Pooja has just one commercial success in her kitty and that is "Paap", therefore in order to make Jism -2 a major success Pooja ran from pillar to post and didn't leave any stone unturned to meet the objective. But once again this Bhatt angle failed in delivering an entertaining delight to the fans.

In the first half pace of the screenplay seems to be rushing to have a rendezvous with the erotic sequences which are somewhat unnecessarily incorporated in the story to titillate the libidinal chords of the masses. As the story proceeds screenplay tries to touch the issues of terrorism also but could not succeed in vitalising it on the screen. 
With a running pace of where an intelligence officer meets a damsel, gets cozy with her and with in no time reveals his identity and hires her for a mission. It looked like as if in the screenplay's sole emphasis is on exposing those voluptuous curves of Sunny. In the second half with excess of drama poking in the flow of the screenplay further deteriorates.

As far as direction of Pooja is concerned, then Jism-2 no where looked like a cine flick from a seasoned director, who knows how to knit an erotic-thriller to offer an entertaining delight to the cine buffs. 

Inspite of having the patronage and legacy of legendary director Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja completely failed in extracting a praiseworthy expressiveness from her cine pawns, who were constantly seen struggling to get in the skin of their characters.

As far as technical aspects of Jism-2 are concerned, then they looked quite focused on exhibiting those stupendous curves of Sunny and exotic shooting locations. Though the camera work of the movie was somewhat good, but at times its extreme propinquity to Sunny over exposed the aging effect of this gorgeous damsel. 

Acting / Performances 
Well as far as performances of the protagonists are concerned, then except Randeep the entire star cast seems to be struggling to showcase a praiseworthy performance.

Eversince the promulgation of Sunny, as the leading lady of Jism-2 there was a flurry of hypes and speculations about her potential to perform in a decorous stream of cinema.
In Jism-2 this Indo Canadian porn star completely failed in leaving any impact on the fans by her performance.In the movie Sunny appeared lacking in the elementary acting skills and even failed in assimilating the expressiveness to her character. Throughout the movie she looked more of a mannequin who is being casted to showcase a diverse range of skimpy attires. 

In Jism-2, it was only Randeep Hooda who managed to emerge as better performer while playing the character of an assassin. Randeep well carried the character of a lonely assassin and succeeded in leaving some impact on the cine buffs. In nut shall Randeep was better than rest, but not at his best.

If it's about Arunoday, then after seeing his next to perfect performance in "Yeh Saali Zindagi", fans may get disappointed by his performance in Jism-2, where inspite of his best efforts he could not succeed in stepping in the shoes of an intelligence officer. 

Well Arif Zakaria looked completely captivated with in the confines of small screen acting style, and looked like a new comer who is oblivious about the real life persona associated with his onscreen character. 
Music / Lyrics :
Music and lyrics, are the two such departments of Jism-2 which deserves to be accoladed with tons of praises for being the heart touching numbers. Arko Pravo Mukherjee's music is simply mesmerising where all the the tracks seemed to be knitted to tap the emotional chords of the cine-goers. Tracks "Abhi-Abhi", "Maula" and "Darta Hoon Adhoora" are soulful carols. Even the title track "Ye Jism" sung by Ali Azmat is mesmerising.

BO Potential:
Contrary to its pre-release hypes and hullabaloo, Jism-2 is expected to emerge as an average entertainer which may pull the masses, just because of the curiosity associated with it. Jism-2, the story knitted in a flimsy thread may succeed in fetching the gazes of young voyeuristic heads but may fall short of even their expectations.
Verdict: 
To sum up, inspite of having a thick robe of apprehensions and curiosity around it, Jism-2 is an over hyped erotic thriller which even fails in quenching the libidinal pangs of the cine goers, who were expecting a thorough erotic delight from the Bhatts. The only USP that may offer some "Paisa Vasool" solace to cine buffs is a decent dose of erotica.

Earlier in the news for his screen romps with Mahie Gill, now for his sizzling chemistry with Sunny Leone in their upcoming film, Randeep Hooda is literally on a roll-in-the-sack. 

After romancing the former adult star in Pooja Bhatt's erotic thriller, the actor wil now be doing steamy sequences with Bollywood newbie Elena Kazan in director Ahishor Solomon's debut project too. But when questioned about it, Randeep plays it down. He finds the hoopla surrounding lovemaking scenes in Bollywood rather funny. 
It's all technicality that goes into the making of these scenes, he says. First of all, I don't understand the big deal surrounding them. To my credit, I don't feel an ounce of pressure when I'm in front of the camera, he quips.

On being asked whether his co-stars carry the same attitude to the film studio like he does, he agrees. We are actors. What do you expect? It's our job to pretend. Sunny knew what she had to do and I know what I had to do.

As simple as that. I also share these so-called lovemaking scenes with Elena too in my next. Having revealed that, the entire procedure is always technical in reality. It's not the way it looks on the big screen!

Randeep Hooda talks about his long perceived attitude problem, Naseeruddin Shah and his greed for good work 

More than a decade ago, Randeep Hooda made his debut in Monsoon Wedding. He shared screen space with Naseeruddin Shah in the very first shot of his film career.

Since then, the two have been associated with each other thanks to their collective interest in theatre. Presently, they are working together in their third film (their second film never got completed).

Needless to mention, Randeep is thrilled to be back with his guide. In a tete-a-tete, the 35-year-old actor refused to comment on his personal life but sets the record straight on a lot of other stuff.

Would you call Naseer your godfather in the industry?
Nope. I wouldn't use such a 'derogatory' term for him.

So what does he mean to you?
Well, he's my mentor, friend and confidant. He's an inspiration and somebody who has helped nurtured me as an actor not necessarily my career but my craft. He's also the one who opened my eyes to the world of acting.
Speaking of acting, do you think you've arrived?
In terms of my acting, yes, I'm definitely having my best phase ever. But I wouldn't like to rest on the laurels as of now. I've got bigger dreams.

Then, what was your worst acting phase?
If you remember, that wasn't very long ago. I was without any major work for more than two years! I was completely hopeless at that point of my career. And then I was even hesitant to play a negative role. Fortunately, filmmakers like Milan (Luthria) and Tigmanshu (Dhulia) walked along and showed faith in me.

Why did you agree for the cameo in Cocktail?
Homi (Adajania) is a friend and I guess I found something in that role. To me, it was unique so I don't have any regrets, whatsoever.

Do you consider yourself as a part of Bhatt camp now?
I'd rather not be part of any camp. I'm just greedy for good work. As long as the association is mutually beneficial, it's a win-win situation. At least, that's what I hope for.

Do you think you're a changed man now given the earlier reports that you had an attitude problem?
All I can say is I've changed the way I express. Earlier, people perceived me as an explosive Jat boy and had a calculated approach. As a result, most of the stories got blown out of proportion. Now, I'm a bit more careful.
You're quite active in horse riding. How do you manage the time for it?
If you love something dearly, you'll find the time for it. Anyhow. Besides, my horses are my solace from this mad, mad world of films.

Shagufta wants Bipasha, Randeep for directorial debut

Shagufta Rafique, who has been writing for Vishesh Films after quitting her job as a bar dancer, is all set to weild the megaphone. She says she would love to rope in Bipasha Basu and Randeep Hooda for her maiden directorial venture

"Nothing has been finalised yet, but I would like to have Bipasha and Randeep to act in my film, " Shagufta, who wrote the script for "Woh Lamhe", told.

"It will be a thriller and I am just waiting to finalise the cast and the production house. As soon as that is done, I will surely make the official announcement, " she said stressing upon the fact that it would be an "interesting" announcement.

She, however, denied rumours of Reliance Entertainment producing her directorial venture saying: "I have written another film which has been brought by Reliance. My directorial venture will not be produced by Reliance as of now."

After writing the screenplays for films like "Dhoka" and "Murder 2", she felt direction was the next obvious step. "I wanted to get into direction since past three years. When you write screenplays, you write about visuals and other details. And when you see someone else directing your work, you tend to feel that you could have done it better, " she said.

Mahie and Randeep gang up!

Former on-screen couple Hooda, Gill cast in Satish Kaushik’s forthcoming gangster film

After scorching the screen with their intimate chemistry in Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster, Randeep Hooda and Mahie Gill will be seen as an on screen couple once again in Satish Kaushik’s next film.

Our source tells us, “It is a very different film for Kaushik. The film is based around the life of a gangster and a gigolo. Satishji thought that Randeep and Mahie are very apt for the role and were the first people on his list.”

The two actors were also supposed to be back together for the sequel of their first gangster film. But due to date issues, director Tigmanshu Dhulia had to axe Randeep’s role from the film. But our source says, “Both of them are very happy to be back in action in this film.”

My favourite holiday spot is Goa: Randeep Hooda

Actor Randeep Hooda has been super busy this season.

But the intense performer likes to chill out during his shoots by discovering the locale or destination he’s at. In a short interview, he talks to BS about travelling and writing:

My favourite holiday spot is Goa. I head there whenever I can. I also love Sri Lanka. It is absolutely clean and quaint. Some of the areas are untouched by commercialisation, and retain their vintage charm.

From the beaches to the forests, it’s simply beautiful. Travelling is a part of my job that I don’t mind at all. I also loved my last trip to South Africa. In Sri Lanka, I spent a lot of time chatting with the locals and tasting local dishes.

I also asked them a lot of questions pertaining to the place and their lifestyle. As an actor, you live in your own space. I think it’s important to break out of that zone and get in touch with reality. I do most of my travelling while I am shooting as I like to spend my vacations with my parents.

Write here write now

I do write occasionally. But I find that writing is a very lonely job. It can lead to discontentment and later on, disillusionment. Nowadays, I don’t find enough time to write. I have written bits and parts of many film scripts, mostly ones in acted in. I might script an entire film some time later. But now, I am happy only reading good scripts.

Some of our actors know well to draw a line between their professional and their personal lives.

While Randeep Hooda replaced Arunoday Singh in Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming heroine-centric film, the two feature in Pooja Bhatt’s forthcoming thriller, featuring Sunny Leone. And it looks like instead of sharing any negative vibe, the two actually got along quite well.

Pooja Bhatt, the director of the film says, “The first time I met them for a narration, they shook hands and were pretty cool. The good part is neither of them is filmy and have a life of their own after pack up.

I could sense the respect that they developed for each other’s work. They both have a different working style and were smart to understand that both of them had to shine for the film to shine. After pack up, we all spent many evenings together.”

While the director adds that the topic of their conversations ranged from sex, films, politics to almost everything under the sun, Pooja adds, “All of us had a strong opinion and neither of them chose to stand politically correct. Arunoday even read out to us some of his writings and gave us an insight into his deepest thoughts. I think it was a special moment.”

Jism 2 has a Dhoble connection

Pooja Bhatt says, “Bizarre but true. Randeep’s character Kabir is a rave-busting, idealistic cop. In the present scenario, I am told by most that he reminds them of Dhoble!”

Party pooper?

Several residents of Mumbai have taken to social networking sites to criticize Dhoble’s ‘antics’. Incidentally, a few weeks back when the Dhoble-bashing was at its peaks, the makers of Tusshar Kapoor’s upcoming sex comedy decided to include a new line that goes like, “Chal party jaldi khatam kar warna Dhoble aa jaega” in one of the sequences in the film.
Tusshar, however, maintains a diplomatic stand on the topic. 

He says, “Yes, the line was prompted by what’s become the topic of discussion today. We aren’t taking a stand on the moral policing issue. Dhoble is doing his job and I’m doing mine as an actor. I just think that if something needs to be changed, we should pass a law.”

Neetu Chandra: Randeep Hooda is my Hero

The actress on why preparing for her next role is a cakewalk for her 


Back from shooting for a Greek-English film in Cyprus, Neetu Chandra is busy gearing up for her next project. She will be playing a Kathak dancer of the 1930s British India in the film.

And since the actress has always taken an active interest in dance, preparing for the role was never going to be difficult. “I have always been inclined towards music and dance. As a result, I move in a certain rhythm, ” Neetu says matter-of-factly. 

According to her, learning Kathak defined her personality during her school days when she was introduced to it. While she also regularly practises martial art, 28-year-old adds, “I have been practising classical dance forms too. I have been dancing since I was a kid. Kathak is the base of all dance forms and it instills discipline in the person who whole-heartedly practices it.” 


Down under


Neetu has three upcoming releases this year, and incidentally they are in three different languages. Noted South film director Ameer Sultan’s next is one of them. The actress has also done several Tamil and Telugu films in the recent past. Has she firmly set her eyes on concentrating in South films for the time being?

Neetu points out, “People just assume I’m stuck down South, ” and adds that Tamil cinema is the backbone of present-day Hindi film industry, “So many remakes are being made in Bollywood. By that logic, I should be more than happy to be working with the very original!”

While being not so forthcoming to talk about her relationship with beau Randeep Hooda, Neetu feels he is an inspiration for newbies in Bollywood. She says, “He’s an example for newcomers from non-filmi background. But we ought to remember that it took him nearly a decade of struggling to get where he is today.”

"He (Randeep) just has a special appearance in the film. He has been kind enough to do it. He is an experienced actor and he doesn't think if a role is big or small, " Dinesh Vijan, co-producer of "Cocktail", told.

Randeep, who is in the cast of films like "Jism 2" and "Heroine", was brought on board by Homi Adjania, who has directed the romantic comedy.

"Homi has a good equation with him and when Homi asked, he agreed. It's just a special appearance, " added Vijan.

"Cocktail", releasing July 13, also features Deepika Padukone and marks the Bollywood debut of model Diana Penty.

'Jism 2 TV promos will be toned down'

Actor-turned-producer Dino Morea says his forthcoming "Jism 2" is an A-movie and he will launch its television promos Tuesday. The content will be a toned down as compared to the bold online version.


"The TV promos will be censored. We do respect the censor board. What we can't release on TV, we are releasing online. With TV you don't have a choice, but when you will go to see the film, you do have a choice to buy your tickets, " Dino, who is co-producing the film with Pooja Bhatt's Fish Eye Network, told.

"Yes, it is an A-film. We have asked for an A-certificate. The film is in the post production stage right now. The first promo of 'Jism 2' will be released on TV from tomorrow (Tuesday), a censored version. We are planning to release our first trailer with either 'Bol Bachchan' or 'Cocktail', " he added.

Directed by Pooja Bhatt, "Jism 2", a sequel to 2003 release "Jism", has Randeep Hood, Arunoday Singh and Sunny Leone in the cast and it is expected to scorch the screens with its steamy content when it hits screens Aug 3. 

The first time producer Dino claims the response to online promos has been phenomenal. 

"We released our first promo online on Friday and second promo just today (Monday) afternoon. We crossed million hits in 36 hours. The reviews are phenomenal so far."


Always keen to try his hands in production, Dino approached Pooja, who directed him in "Holiday". 


"Pooja and I share a very good relationship...I always wanted to get into production. So I asked Pooja if I could co-produce 'Jism 2' with her. She happily agreed and that is how it happened, " the 37-year-old said.

Mahesh Bhatt, writer of "Jism 2", feels the censored version for TV was necessary to meet the standards set by the censor board. 

"Whenever we release any promos on TV, we need to meet the requirement of U/A certificate by the censor board. You have to alter your promos to meet the standards set by the censor board for TV. But there is no conflict on this." 

"So, basically the uncensored version will go online and a toned down, censored or acceptable version for all age (group) will go on TV. This is our double barrel market planning, " he added.
