On the sets of David Dhawan's Rascals in Bangkok, the original hunk of Bollywood is looking slimmer, fresher and speaks of how he quit alcohol to get his groove back. Says Dutt, "I just let myself go. I don't know why, but I guess it was a crazy time with my jail term, the case and everything. I had given up my gym secessions and had these crazy all-night drinking bouts.
But when I got the feedback about how flabby I was looking on screen, I was very disappointed with myself."The unsparing criticism had Dutt thinking. It helped of course that during the shooting of All The Best, Ajay Devgn convinced the star that it was time for him to get his act together. "That's when I thought I had to bounce back.
At the stroke of midnight on December 31, I looked at myself in the mirror decided this is it. I have not had a drop of alcohol since then." Dutt, who weighed a hefty 110 kg at that time, ha now dropped to 91kg. "I hope to hit 87 kg soon," he smiles confidently. But it is not easy to fight back when you are 50, is it? Dutt agrees. "When you are young, your metabolism is high and if you gym regularly if you are fit.
However after 45, it's very difficult. I am on a diet (grilled chicken and salads) and I work out regularly." Dutt goes back to his Saajan days to give us a glimpse of what to expect. "Give me six months," he says. "And you will see the old Sanjay Dutt with the fabulous body everyone used to rave about." We are waiting!
