Ashwini Kalsekar to play Lady Don

Recently released Ishaqzzade, Rowdy Rathod and the promos of Gangs of Wasseypur prove the fact that Indian films are back to being raw. Taking a cue from this emerging trend Zee TV’s show Afsar Bitiya has decided to introduce a character ala Phoolan Devi.

The character will have shades of grey, will be bad to the bone but at the same time will be tailor made for entertainment.

Versatile actress Ashwini Kalsekar has been roped in to play the role of an entertaining Don in the show.

Ashwinin will play the role of Sikka Thakuraine who is around 40 years old and is carrying forward her husband’s legacy of being involved in all sorts of illegal activities..

She is named so because instead of a Bindi she wears a sikka (coin) on her forehead.

This weird obsession or habit stems from her innate love for money which makes her accept every possible mean to earn it.

Ashwini after accepting this offer said, “This is not the first time I am playing a negative character but definitely the first time where I will be playing a tough yet comical Don. Zee TV is like family after the innumerable shows I have been a part of, hence can never say ‘No’ to a meaty role."

"I will be essaying the role of a quintessential village goon who is held in awe by all and sundry including the police given her menacing reputation, " she said.

Elaborating her character, Ashwini said: "She is very weird and unpredictable. She will never call people by their first names rather refer to them as some animal of her choice. The only human side to this character is her relationship with her daughter who she dearly loves.

"The role sounds very interesting but I will take some time getting into the skin of such a character.”
