Why Katrina is not part of item song in Housefull

The Katrina Kaif-Akshay Kumar pairing has proved successful time and again.

And so, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sajid Khan decided to get Kat on board for.

An item song in their film Laawaris song in Housefull. But the other actresses of the film Deepika Padukone.

And Lara Dutta -- had a problem with the very mention of her inclusion and made their displeasure evident.

Merry-go-round Katrina, too, was reluctant to do a song in a Deepika starrer, given.

The resentment the two actresses share over Ranbir Kapoor. Sushmita Sen was approached.

The song was finally filmed on Jacqueline Fernandes. A source reveals.

"Katrina was offered the song but it became difficult to convince the other actresses to allow for her presence. Kat even heard the track and raved about how catchy it was.

Since Katrina and Akshay have amazing on-screen chemistry it would have been a treat to have her along with Riteish and Arjun. It wasn't meant to be."

Ruling her out But even the filmmakers didn't pursue the matter further as having Kat as an added attraction wasn't going down well with the three heroines. Especially, Deepika. Kat and Dippy recently came face-to-face at a film studio but looked through each other. So to avoid unpleasantness on the set, the idea of having Kat on board Housefull was ultimately ruled out. Director Sajid Khan denies Katrina was in the running for doing the song.

'My Name Is Khan' earns Rs 150 cr in a week

Despite less than average theatre occupancy in the weekdays and its share of controversy with Shiv Sena before the release.

The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer and Karan Johar-directed Bollywood film My Name Is Khan (MNIK) has managed to rake.

In Rs 150 crore from its first week of release in India and abroad, say film trade analysts. This has happened despite the fact that MNIK saw the average theatre occupancy slip to below 40% during the weekdays, especially.

In single-screen theatres. Initially released with over 1,300 prints, MNIK grossed Rs 90 crore in the first weekend, riding on the controversy surrounding the protest by Shiv Sena over remarks made by Shah Rukh Khan supporting the inclusion of cricketers from Pakistan in IPL-3.

However, the recently released Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots, which is still doing well at the box office, had managed to rake in over Rs 240 crore within 10 days of its release. According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, MNIK is a blockbuster movie that has managed to generate 60% of its revenue from within the country while the overseas markets have contributed 40%. “MNIK has exceeded trade expectations and is doing a brisk business worldwide,” says Adarsh. The film’s distributor, Foxstar studio, has managed to generate Rs 35 crore so far in distribution rights. Riding on MNIK’s success, film distributors are looking to release it in international centres, including in Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt among several other countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa by April. According to trade pundits, MNIK grossed around Rs 8 crore in the opening weekend in the UK (less than 3 Idiots that had raked in close to Rs 13 crore), and Rs 11 crore in the US. Aamir Khan in a war of words with Javed Akhtar

Who should get the credit for a hit movie song? The lyricist, music composer, singer or the actor who lends his/her lips to it? Well, the debate on this issue has gripped.

Bollywood and seen superstar Aamir Khan pitted in a battle with lyricist Javed Akhtar and the actor resigning from a committee of experts set up by Indian government to review proposed amendments to copyright laws.

Aamir has sent a letter to Indian Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal informing him that he has resigned from the committee as his integrity was being questioned by some members in the debate on the copyrights issue.

“It seems to me that there is an attempt by certain people to attack me in public by printing lies about me, thereby turning the attention from a genuine debate on copyrights issues.

“In the light of these public attacks on me, I don't think I'm comfortable to be part of this committee,” said Aamir.

The actor and Akhtar had sparred on the issue of royalty on songs at a meeting recently with Aamir arguing that the success of a film song did not solely depend on the efforts of the lyricist, music composer and singer and a star contributed to it while Akhtar citing numerous instances of how some songs had actually made stars out of newcomers in the film industry.

Akhtar particularly pointed to the hit song “Papa Kahtey Hain” from Aamir's debut film “Qayamat Sey Qayamat Tak” which made him an instant heartthrob.

Akhtar said all over the world writers and musicians get their due credit and royalty for their creations but in India right from the first contract, the writers and the lyricists lose their rights.

He said even the government acknowledged that writers and lyricists work like bonded labourers. “Even a musician of the calibre of Ustad Bismillah Khan had to die in abject poverty. Isn't that shameful?” the lyricist added.

The experts committee was set up to discuss the film industry's concerns about amendments to the Copyright Act of 1957 and the proposed amendments would seek to strike a balance between lyricists, writers and music composers and the producers of a film. The final aim is to ensure lyricists and composers become part of the revenue flowing from use of songs and music for purposes outside the film.

Aamir said the amendments to the Copyright Act are long overdue. The actor had recently been embroiled in the row between makers of the latest box office hit movie “3 Idiots” starring him and Chetan Bhagat, the author of the book on which the film was based, over the issue of credit to Bhagat. Aamir had sided with the film's producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and its director Raj Kumar Hirani in the war of words with Bhagat.

People I trusted in Bollywood misguided me: Sneha Ullal

Sneha Ullal was known as the Aishwarya Rai lookalike when she entered the film world but the actress is now keen to carve a niche for herself.

After featuring in spooky thriller ‘Click’, she feels it’s time she proved her calibre to people who misguided her when she first came to Bollywood.

‘See ‘Click’ is not my comeback in Bollywood because the film doesn’t revolve around me.

I need a film like ‘Lucky’ (her debut vehicle) to make a comeback; then I can show what I can do,’ Sneha told IANS.

‘Now it’s time I prove myself because there are a lot of people who misguided me in Bollywood whom I trusted.

I never knew Bollywood is like that, you know,’ she said. The young actress has already signed two Hindi movies, including one opposite Akshay Kumar.

‘I am doing a film with Ashok Tyagi where Akshay Kapoor is my co-star and there is another film with Shubir Mukherjee. The film is being launched by Joy Mukherjee’s son Sujoy. One of them is a thriller, the other is a love story and both are expected to release later this year,’ said Sneha.

Sneha made her debut in 2005 opposite Salman Khan and her second release was ‘Aryan: Unbreakable’ (2006) with Sohail Khan. After that she moved down south and featured in Telugu films like ‘Nenu Meeku Telusa…?’ and ‘Ullasanga Utsahanga’ . ‘I have done three films in the south and the fourth is releasing in April. In the south, people are very genuine. They will tell you the right things. I had rejected one film because I was not comfortable kissing on screen.

‘Two months later, I got another film and I called the same director, whose film I had rejected, for some guidelines and he guided me properly. It’s unlike Bollywood. Here people will misguide you and take you in the wrong direction. That’s what happened with me,’ said Sneha. The 22-year-old feels she owes a lot to southern cinema. ‘I won’t stop doing films in the south ever. It teaches you how to be an actor…how to be a lady. I don’t know about Bollywood as I haven’t done much work here.’

But at the same time she is keen to leave her mark in Bollywood as well and says she will be less choosy about roles than earlier. ‘I am going to do any role now that takes me to another level. If my role is good, I don’t mind even if it’s a D-grade film,’ said Sneha.

‘I was choosy, but it didn’t work for me. I need to learn because that’s what an actor is all about. She needs to play different kinds of characters…You can’t stick to one genre.’ Asked if she has any regrets about her initial years in Bollywood, Sneha said: ‘I don’t regret but if I am to re-do, I will re-do now. I don’t regret because ‘Lucky’ gave me name; people know me today because of ‘Lucky’.’

Shah Rukh in middle of controversy once again

No sooner that the controversy around SRK's comments on Pakistani cricket players has settled down, the actor finds himself in yet another controversy related to the IPL.

This time round, it's the courtesy of inner wear brand Lux Cozy, of which, SRK is the recently appointed brand ambassador.

The story goes that, since SRK is the brand ambassador of the said brand, it was rest understood as to they will be sponsoring the uniforms for Khan's.

T-20 team Kolkata Knight Riders, besides a monetary angle of course. All was well so far. Now the twist in the tale is that the Lux Company is owned by.

The Todi brothers (Ashok and Pradip). They are the same Todi brothers who were charged with apparently leading to.

The suicide of computer graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman, a Muslim, after he married Ashok Todi's daughter Priyanka, who was a Hindu by religion.

This news had made it to the national headlines and remained atop for quite sometime. This 'sponsorship' move by SRK for KKR with the said brand has not been taken kindly by many.

That's the reason why it has sparked anger in many people's heart. Not just that, since it has a religious pinch to it.

A few religious bodies too have come in the forefront to express their opposition. In the lieu of all this, there has been a meeting that has been arranged which will include artistes, actors, dancers, writers, performers and also a few prominent names express solid opposition to the controversial tie-up.

Jab Kareena Kapoor met Shahid Kapur at SRK MNIK bash!!

Heard this?? Kareena Kapoor, the sizzling hot size zero babe of bollywood who had been in a steady relationship.

with Shahid Kapur for almost four years before going with Saif Ali Khan, not only met her ex but they looked comfortable with each other at Shah Rukh Khan’s party at Mannat.

Sources present on the occasion say that initially there was hesitation on both sides, but when it became clear.

That it was not possible to see through each other at the party, Kareena and Shahid Kapur wished each other and indulged in decent conversation. What is surprising that Kareena Kapoor.

And Shahid broke the ice in the presence of Saif Ali Khan (Kareena Kapoor’s current beau) at the party, who himself later joined the conversation.

Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur striking a conversation at a party becomes important in view of the fact that at an earlier award function’s practice session they had given.

A cold shoulder to each other. In fact, Shahid Kapoor had refused to even acknowledge Kareena Kapoor, though Bebo stopped for a second when Shahid was passing by her side

.A source from Shah Rukh Khan’s party says that Kareena Kapoor and Shahid warmed up to each other only because Karan Johar (with whom Kareena Kapoor is doing the remake of ‘Italian Mom’) was present at the spot. Perhaps, they did not want to show themselves to be rude before ace director Karan Johar, who loves to play the role of peacemaker in bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan had hosted the party at Mannat to celebrate the huge success of his latest flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ at the box office and obviously the whole bollywood was present there in full strength to cheer the gutsy Khan. Karan Johar, who had directed the Shah Rukh Khan starrer flick was obviously an important part of the gathering. It may be recalled that though Kareena Kapoor had parted ways with Shahid Kapur but she did not like his involvement with Priyanka Chopra, as she thought that Priyanka was not his type.

However, Shahid Kapur clearly snubbed Kareena Kapoor in the matter by saying at a show that he did not need anyone’s advice to run his life. But Kareena Kapoor’s advice proved to be prophetic when Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapur separated from each other and went their separate ways due to incompatibility factor. In fact, Priyanka Chopra is an outgoing girl with a love for partying and similar things, while Shahid Kapur has always been of a different type.

Vishal wants the seven husbands to look as different as possible. As reported earlier.

Priyanka Chopra plays the protagonist in the film and kills all her seven husbands.

A source reveals, “Vishal wants each actor to look different from the other.

So far he has finalised Mohanlal, Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham and Arshad Warsi.

As is evident from the casting till now, each actor has a distinctive look - from skin colour, body structure, height, even personality.

The script of the film is quite unconventional.” Adds the source, “Irrfan Khan might be signed to play the fifth husband.

During his recent visit to the US, Vishal had zeroed in on a foreigner, who will play one of Priyanka's husbands.”

Ek Batta Saat is written by Vishal and renowned author Ruskin Bond. We hear Vishal liked Bond's short story Susanna's Seven Husbands, which the writer later developed into a film script.

Aishwarya Rai can not give birth to a child, undergoing treatment!!

Aishwarya Rai, the gorgeous bahu of Shehanshah of bollywood Amitabh Bachchan and wife of handsome hunk Abhishek Bachchan, can not give birth to a child as she has been undergoing treatment for stomach tuberculosis.

Sources close to Bachchans reveal that Aishwarya Rai has been taking medicines to cure her TB but it is yet not fully gone and unless.

She is fully satisfied of her capacity to bear a child, she is not going to be in the family way. In fact.

Aishwarya Rai, too, wants to have kids, much like her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and other members of the household.

But doctors do not approve of going for a kid under such circumstances and so the lady has been avoiding getting pregnant.

Sources say that her stomach pain is sometime severe and even can affect the fetus if she decides to take the plunge to fulfill Big B’s wish of having a grand son at the earliest.

Considering the condition of Aishwarya Rai, even Amitabh Bachchan has stopped expressing his wish for a grand son anytime soon, and nowadays goes on saying that whenever it has to happen will happen, seemingly in a mood of resignation.

The indication of Aishwarya Rai’s giving birth to a child being delayed by tuberculosis had also come through Amitabh Bachchan’s blog where he had written about the dreaded disease. In fact, Big B had questioned the popular belief that only poor people were affected by tuberculosis, but desisted from confirming about Aishwarya suffering from this disease.

Sources close to Bachchan household say that family’s urgency in having a kid also comes from the fact of Aishwarya Rai’s age, which is now in the latter half of thirties(Aishwarya is thirty- seven years, while Abhishek Bachchan is younger by three-four years).

However, Bachchans do not want to put any pressure on Aishwarya Rai regarding getting pregnant or anything like that. They are prepared to wait for some more time and have been posing to the world as if Aishwarya Rai was not getting pregnant due to her professional commitments towards films of different producers –directors.Presently, Aishwarya Rai is working in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming flick ‘Guzaarish’ opposite Hrithik Roshan.

She has been shooting for the film at a stretch because she plays the central role of a nurse to Hrithik Roshan who suffers from some form of handicap and confined to a wheelchair in the flick.Aishwarya Rai’s other film ‘Raavan’ opposite hubby Abhishek Bachchan is almost complete and director Mani Rathnam is said to be busy with post-production work of the flick. Aishwarya is playing the character of Sita in this modern adaptation of Valmiki’s ‘Ramayana’ by ace southern director Rathnam. Vikram also plays an important role in the film.

A glowing Vidya Balan gets chatting about her new house and life post Ishqiya

A glowing Vidya Balan gets chatting about her new house and life post Ishqiya You have always lived in Chembur.

How do you like living in a different suburb like Khar? I quite like it here. Like Chembur there is a neighbourhood feel here.

There is greenery, a certain warmth, a market close by, not to mention less travelling time to work.

The glow on your face says it all. The response to Ishqiya is fantastic. You are right, it is unbelievable!

The response far exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t have asked for more.

What do people have to say about the bold scenes between you and Arshad Warsi?

There is not a single person who asked me why I did the scenes or said that I shouldn’t have done them or that they were too brazen for me, not even my close friends who are very possessive and protective about me. Others have said that they could not believe that the same girl of Paa has done these scenes so effortlessly. Everyone felt that they proved my versatility.

But were you apprehensive when the film came to you?
On the contrary I was flattered! In fact I went to Abhishek Chaubey (director) to thank him because I knew I was not the natural choice for the role. At the same time, I took some time to agreed to the film as I wanted to read the script.

Were you, at any time, uncomfortable while doing the scenes?
No, not really. I sat with Abhishek a month before we started shooting as I wanted to understand my character of Krishna completely.

I am not a very aggressive person and I wanted to make sure there was no holding back when I played Krishna. I needed to get over all those mental obstacles, not only about using expletives or picking up a gun and shooting, but everything else, like her body language and expressions which always reeked of sensuality. Krishna had to be sensual without wearing revealing clothes. I pushed the envelope and I am glad it has paid off. I enjoyed being on the other side. People asked if it was a gamble, and I said it wasn’t but it was a job well done. I am not sure what would have been the response if the film had not done well.

Is it more difficult to switch from being de-glam to glamorous than the other way round?
Either way, it is about getting out of your comfort zone and is equally difficult. Anyway I don’t think glamour is the criterion when I take on a film, the role is. Glamour can be part of the role, it can’t be the role. For me Lolita in Parineeta was just as glamorous, even though she was presented in sarees. Glamour is about a certain sheen that the character displays, but which we tend to demarcate by Indian and Western wear! That is very sad because there is nothing more glamorous and sexier than a saree.

Your dressing sense is now being appreciated. Have you finally found your designer in Sabyasachi?
Personally, I have been wearing Sabya for a while. He dresses me for most of my events. I like the clothes he makes because they are very organic and also because of the work that he does. It is a sensibility match. Anyways, I do wear Sabya’s creations but not only his.

Is it true that you will be doing Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children?
Even I heard that one, but Deepa has not approached me. I met Deepa, but it was for a film with R. Madhavan and me that did not work out. All I can say is that we hope to work together in the future.

What about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Chenab Gandhi and Sujoy Ghosh’s next?
You will have to ask Sanjay Leela Bhansali that. I was approached by him two years ago but I have not heard from him after that, so I really don’t know what’s happening. As for Sujoy Ghosh, he narrated an idea, which I found very exciting. I am waiting to get a narration now.

Is it flattering when a filmmaker comes to you saying that if you don’t do the film he will not make the movie?

It is very flattering, but on the other hand it can be like emotional blackmail! I don’t get taken in by that and do the film only if I am convinced.

When do you start shooting for Rajkumar Gupta’s No One Killed Jessica?
The team is already in Delhi and I join them at the end of the month.

Have you met Jessica’s sister Sabrina on whom the role is shaped?
Rajkumar Gupta did not want me to meet Sabrina as he did not want the film to be biographical. So I have just done the regular preparations and created my own person.

Is it true that you and Rani Mukerji, who plays a journalist in the film, did not want to work together?
Both of us were in talks for the film for a very long time as we both liked the script. I am thrilled that Rani is part of the film as she is one of my favourite actresses.

Hurt Aamir Khan submits resignation letter

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is not called 'The Perfectionist' for nothing. If he gets into something, he puts all his heart, mind and soul to it.

He is not a kind of person to agree to something that he thinks is wrong. This attitude has put him into trouble waters this time around.

He has resigned from the committee of copyright amendment following disagreement with his fellow committee members.

He has sent his resignation to Kapil Sibal. In his letter to Sibal, Aamir wrote, “I cannot make any meaningful contribution in this atmosphere.

Aggression of this type leaves me feeling very disillusioned and sad and I am unable to function.”

He however applauded the move, as he thinks that the amendments to the Copyright Act are long overdue. He is confident that he would do wonders in the field of copyright like he did in the field of education.

It was reported that Aamir had a major disagreement with the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar over the importance of music composers and lyricists, with Khan taking the side of film producers. He is said to be unhappy, as the other members of the committee are not in the mood to consider his suggestions though he is very sure that he wouldn't gain anything out of it.

HRD ministry formed the committee to resolve the issues regarding copyrights. It comprises of lyricists Javed Akhtar and Prasoon Joshi, music directors Vishal Dadlani and Ram Sampat, Film maker Ramesh Sippy, script writers Anjum Rajabali and Saket Choudhary and music companies T-Series and Sa Re Ga Ma. Aamir Khan is the only actor in the committee.

For Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, her relationships seem to score over everything.

So much so that even though she was unwell, she travelled to Bhopal to celebrate the 80th birthday of her husband Abhishek Bachchan's maternal grandmother.

According to a source close to Aishwarya, this was a commitment the couple had made to Abhishek's 'nani' (maternal grandmother) a while ago.

And despite the high fever and sore throat that she has been suffering from since a few days, Aishwarya made sure she was there to fulfil her promise.

Should be back to fighting fit... in a day or two," Abhishek posted on social networking site Twitter.

The actor says his grandmother's expression on seeing both of them was "priceless". "Made a surprise trip to Bhopal last night (Monday). Was my nani's 80th birthday! Her expression was priceless. Riya Sen now game for Bengali movies

After making her debut in Bengali films with a small role in Rituparno Ghosh's Abohomaan, Riya Sen says she is open to do movies of all genres in her mother tongue. Riya, who began her acting career in 1991 as a child artiste with Hindi film "Vishkanya", says her foray into Bengali films got delayed as she wanted her first Bengali film to be directed by Ghosh.

"I always wanted my first film to be directed by him. And I must say I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He is a family friend. I was very comfortable," Riya told IANS in an interview. She played the daughter-in-law of the protagonist in Abohomaan, produced by Reliance BIG Pictures, and says she loved the role of the young, middle-class Bengali bride.

"She is rebellious and English speaking. I was completely at home," she said. "Now that I have started acting in Bengali films, I will look forward to working with various directors. I would like to act in films of all genres," added the 29-year-old model-turned-actress.

Riya and her sister Raima will now appear on screen in Ghosh's yet-to-be-released Hindi movie "Noukadubi". Though the siblings don't have a single scene together, Riya said it was a "lovely experience". "She (Raima) was extremely caring. She took care of all my needs," said Riya. When told that people would now start comparing them, Riya said: "Well, I guess people will do that. But there is no competition between us. We don't see each other as rivals.

Asked whether she was satisfied with the way her film career has progressed, Riya said: "Yeah, I am very happy. I have lately been choosy about films. When you start your career, you act in all kinds of movies. You don't pick and choose. But later on, you may feel that there were some films where you should have given a second thought before saying yes."

The actress, who has acted in Bollywood hits like Jhankaar Beats, Qayamat and Apna Sapna Money Money, says walking the ramp made her more confident while facing the camera as an actress. "I guess the experience adds to one's confidence, though not to a large extent." Daughter of former Bollywood diva Moon Moon Sen and granddaughter of Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen, Riya claims hard work and not lineage made her a successful actor.

"It is after all hard work and sheer hard work which pays. And I am game for slogging it out. I don't care if people compare me to my grandmother. I can never be like my grandmother. Nor was my grandmother ever like me. People may compare me with her or my mother Moon Moon. But I am cool about it," she said.

Katrina Kaif sweeps Bihar off its feet with her Bhojpuri

On Tuesday afternoon Katrina along with her ‘Rajneeti’ co-stars Arjun Rampal and Manoj Tiwari flew into Patna in a private jet hired by Prakash Jha.

They headed straight from the airport to Jha’s residence in the suburbs. The reason was the inauguration of her director Prakash Jha’s news channel at Patna’s Shri Krishna Memorial Auditorium amidst.

Other big names like Manoj Tiwari and Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar. Katrina’s presence on the stage made the crowd nostalgic.

Even Nitish Kumar had to admit that his presence was not required with Katrina around. The best part of the entire event was Katrina wooing her audience with her Bhojpuri dialogues trained by Prakash Jha who admits it wasn’t easy coaching Katrina to speak a few line in Bhojpuri.

“But it worked, and how. Katrina had the whole of Bihar eating out of her hands. It was so unexpected from someone who has the reputation of barely managing her Hindi,” chuckles Jha. Prakash cannot just stop praising Katrina and says, “Katrina had no idea of her popularity in Bihar.

She has a very deep connect with audiences. She has the kind of image that Hema Malini has. Not one cheap remark, no jostling crowds, no. They now call her Bihar Ki Beti.” Katrina, Arjun and Manoj flew back to Mumbai late Tuesday night. Prakash Jha intends to hold the premiere of ‘Rajneeti’ in Patna instead of Mumbai.

Musically Yours - Shruti Haasan

With parents like Kamal Haasan and Sarika, there was never any doubt that Shruti Haasan would make a career in cinema.

However, people were surprised when she first showed her musical side, composing and singing for films and then made her acting debut.

In this special feature of Musically Yours, we talk to Shruti about how it all started for her in the world of music.

Early Days "I started singing at a very early age though it was mainly for fun. I've been singing.

Since the age of 5 but took up professional training only much later. During my school days.

I was really bad at Maths. My scores in Maths were so low that I was given an option of dropping Maths for Music or Arts.

I chose Music and began learning Hindustani Classical Music. Hence, I say that I stumbled into singing completely by mistake."

My Gurus of Music "I started learning music professionally when I was 14. My Guruji in Chennai is Pandit Manohar Kulkarni.

He is really popular there. Besides I also learnt a lot about music and singing from Suresh Wadkarji in Mumbai."

First Break "Strange as it may sound, my first singing assignment was at the age of 6. Though I was raw and untrained, I sang a song in my dad's Tamil film Thevar Magan The song was composed by Ilaiyaraaja Sir. After that I got a chance to sing in a lot of Tamil films.

I remember Ilaiyaraaja Sir calling me to sing a few lines here and there in quite a few films. My first Hindi song was in Chachi 420 and later I also sang in another of dad's films Hey Ram. That way I guess I am blessed to have got a break pretty early in life."

Shah Rukh is a perfect co-star

Eight years among Bollywood biggies may be quite a time. But actress Amrita Rao believes she still has a long way to go.

And to achieve this she has decided to say a strict no to other language films till she finds that the ground under feet in Bollywood is firm.

“Acting in a regional cinema requires a lot more time and it’s a whole new experience that calls for extra attention as well.

I want to concentrate on Hindi cinema for the moment and later think of moving on,” Amrita told Metrolife. Amrita has reason enough to feel confident that 2010 is going to be hers.

Three Bollywood offers are there before her, “I can’t really disclose much about the movies unless I start working on them,” she says.

Amrita is particular that the director and the leading man of the movie she acts in must be established names in the industry.

“I have always wanted to work with Imtiaz Ali and Vishal Bharadwaj. They think differently and come up with something new every time they embark on a new project,” she reasons.

Amrita thinks that unlike in the past there’s a whole new breed of young actors who have come on board. “There was a time when there wasn’t much choice and there was a dearth of young actors but now there’s fresh talent all over,” she says.

A self-confessed fan of Hrithik Roshan, she admits co-starring with him will be like a dream come true. And guess who else has caught her fancy? Shah Rukh Khan. “He is the most perfect co-star. If I were 15 years older then I could have worked as his leading lady,” she gushes.

Talking about South Indian films she says she hasn’t completely shunned it but would consider acting in it if some offer from someone has noted as Mani Ratnam or Suresh Menon comes along. “It has to be big,” she says emphatically.

It’s movies and more movies for Amrita for when she’s not shooting she’s watching films. “It’s entertainment and a great learning experience,” she says.

Furious Kat says girl in sextape not her sis Isabel

Isabel Kaif is yet to kick off her Bollywood career, but she has already hit headlines for all the wrong reasons.

A sexually explicit video, allegedly featuring Katrina Kaif's younger sister, is currently doing the rounds of the internet, on various video-sharing sites.

The video carries Isabel's name. In fact, reports are rife that it is easily available in Mumbai -- even hawkers outside most railway stations in the city have the DVDs.

The clip seems to have been shot with a camcorder. Sources said the clip does not show the face of the man, but the girl is clearly visible.

However, it is "very difficult" to ascertain the girl's identity, they said. Big sister Katrina, on her part, has lambasted.

The reports saying the girl in the video clip has no resemblance whatsoever to Isabel. But these denials from the actress have done nothing to end the rumours.

As far as the porn video is concerned, it seems the only option left with Katrina is to involve the authorities and identify the real culprit.

For those who came in late, Isabel is a wannabe actress and is studying filmmaking in the US. She has been spotted at various filmy events with Katrina, and speculations were rife that she had been offered a few films. But Katrina had taken a strong stand that she was too young to join films. It was also reported earlier that Isabel might be seen in Salman Khan's just-released dud Veer.

Deepika talks about experimenting with her looks

Deepika Padukone has just snipped her flowing tresses short. The new hairstyle has given a fresh bounce to the bubbly actor’s look. “I love how I can just wash and dry my hair and I’m ready to go. Earlier, it would take ages to set,” she smiles.

It’s not just the hair. Padukone’s experimentations with her appearance go beyond that. She loves the fact that all her films this year will give her the chance to show off many different looks, starting with Karthik Calling Karthik.

“It wasn’t a conscious decision to take up different kinds of films. I’m just lucky that people think I can fit into various roles,” says the actress.

After the release of Love Aaj Kal, her clothes in the film boosted the trend of smart casuals. And it didn’t take much time for college-goers to ape her style. “That was fashionable casual, something I like to wear in reality,” explains the 23-year-old.

She loves dressing in denims, knee-length dresses, anklets and sandals. In fact, she has a huge fetish for footwear. “But I wear only flats and that has nothing to do with my height, it’s the comfort factor.”

In Karthik Calling Karthik, which releases on February 26, she plays an architect, who is a go-getter and an independent and self-driven woman. In fact, Padukone related so much to the character that many times she didn’t have to change into costume when she came to the sets.

“There were several occasions, where I came in to shoot and the director, Vijay Lalwani, told me to shoot in my own clothes because he felt that they went perfectly with her character,” says the actress, flashing her dimples. “The thing that I liked best about Shonali’s style is that her clothes brightened up the entire office.

It was an office where everyone including Farhan (Akhtar) was dressed in shades of black and grey. And it was only Shonali, who would come in a bright red dress or green top.” When not wearing her own clothes, Padukone tried her best to be involved with the styling department of her films. “I think I’m the one who best understand my body. That’s why I know what will look good on me,” she explains.

The model-turned-actor doesn’t disclose much about her role in Housefull, which is scheduled for an April-release. However, she admits to playing an extremely glamorous character, who even sports a bikini. Her appearance in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s period film Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se will be a departure from this.

“Here, I wear the attire of a typical Bengali woman of the1930s a white and red sari, very little make-up, a small red bindi and some jewellery,” discloses the actor who has been cast as a Bengal revolutionary. Those, who fancy seeing her in varied appearances, should wait for Pradeep Sarkar’s Lafange Parinde. She hasn’t started shooting for it yet. But she is definitely game for the extremely grubby look that the film demands. However, Imran Khan-starrer Break Ke Baad will have her dressed in her “favourite” casual outfits once again.

'My Name Is Khan'

The story of an Indian man who moves to America and is belatedly diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome is an engaging, well-acted film.Karan Johar's "My Name Is Khan" is a sweeping epic in the melodramatic Bollywood manner yet emerges as a potent, engaging and timely entertainment.

Shahrukh Khan stars as Rizwan Khan, whose Asperger's syndrome goes undiagnosed until the death of his loving mother sends him off to San Francisco to live with his younger brother, whose psychologist wife makes the diagnosis.

Having been raised with affection and sensitivity, Khan, who is well-educated and exceptionally intelligent, is already high-functioning. Ultra-sensitive to noise, he may be petrified by the clanging of a cable car bell until he understands what it is, and his ability to express emotion may be muted, but it turns out that he's a surprisingly successful salesman for the Indian herbal beauty products company for which his brother is an executive.

He feels compelled to tell the truth no matter what, and his candor in regard to what his line of cosmetics can and cannot do amusingly beguiles the beautiful Mandira (Kajol), who owns and operates a busy beauty salon. Pretty soon.

The shyly handsome Khan has won the heart of Mandira, a single mother with a small son and a bad marriage in her past. When a client who lives in a small town outside San Francisco offers to put up the money to open a salon in that community Mandira accepts, and soon the new family is living the suburban American dream until Sept. 11.

Mandira is a Hindu, Khan is a Muslim, and at this point the film evolves from the story of a man with Asperger's learning to live a successful, happy life to that of a man who embarks, in the wake of tragedy and violence, on an odyssey to declare to President Obama, "I am a Muslim and I am not a terrorist." "My Name Is Khan" is a potent, energetic heart-tugger and Khan and Kajol, major Bollywood stars, are highly appealing and equal to the demand of their emotion-charged roles.

If there's anyone who can be honest to the point it hurts, and that too in Bollywood, it's Vidya Balan. Few in tinsel town, where big money is spent to carefully cultivate.

An image both on and off screen, this Aiyar bared her soul to a packed house during the second edition of the India Today Woman Summit in Mumbai.

She recounted her journey of having lost her way in the big bad world of films and only to rediscover herself. And need we add, her rediscovery has sent the cash registers ringing with Paa and Ishquiya.

Till now the Balan girl has earned herself many detractors with her honesty but this time on the firing line was none other than her self.

At the dinner keynote address titled "New Beginnings, New Frontiers," Balan in her trademark style spoke candidly about her stellar beginning in films only to lose the plot later.

Recounting her journey from being losing herself to finding herself again she said: "Little achievements in my life are the product of choices I have made.

New beginnings and new frontiers for me was about losing perspective, then gaining it and then becoming self assured. Every moment gives us a new beginning to conquer new frontiers."

Social pressure often puts women (and their clothes) under a microscope, but it's the choices that we make that define who we are. This comes from a woman who started her career with a dream debut in Parineeta, but became only a shade of the real her when she started attempting to ape some of the glamorous bimbettes in Bollywood.

She did her best to fight the behenji image, but clearly that's what is raking in the moolah. "People used to tell me don't go to book readings as it will seem pseudo-intellectual. And I said to myself, but I love reading." It's taken her a lot to break the mould and come out tops.

But then she's never had it easy as she never had a sugar daddy in the industry. Recounting the start of her journey, she recalls: "The first opportunity I got allowed me to be my self in television as it was all simple. That's when I realised what is to be a woman. I enjoyed playing the mother of a 5-year-old kid in an ad film."

The first challenge in her journey on to the big screen came when she turned down Anurag Basu's offer of a lead role in a serial. "When I refused saying I really wanted in the movies he said 'Roz, Roz Shah Rukh paida nahi hota'." Well Basu may now eat humble pie because roz roz Vidya Balan bhi nahin paida hoti.

It was the first motivation that came in the form of a rebuke or a challenge. "I wanted to disprove him. Now I am glad that he did as it motivated me to pursue what I really wanted. When my detractors kept saying things about me I was only strengthened to disprove them and the only thing I had was my faith."

From hindsight, she's glad about all the projects in the South that did not materialize even though she was termed as jinxed. "I am happy now that those films never took off as they portrayed women as 'floozies' and made them look like apologies. I was inspired by yesteryear actors and wanted to be like them," she adds.

With Parineeta, her life changed overnight as her thirst as an actor got quenched, but then complacency set in and along with it confusion. "I lost perspective and everything from clothes to what I stood for reflected my state of mind. I was almost giving up. Balki said that actors take a lifetime to figure out their needs," she says.

And that's everything started going wrong because she was trying very hard to be something she was not. That's when she decided to take step back and words of wisdom came from her sister, who told her: "It's a constant struggle to be someone else, it's easiest to be yourself."

Having tried to toe the line, Balan has come a full circle. "All the bad press I got as people were rejecting my attempt at being who I was not. Then I got new opportunities, which helped me conquer new frontiers," she says with pride.

No ego, no ill-will to anyone, tweets Shah Rukh

Under attack from the Shiv Sena for his IPL remarks, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has said he has the ‘courage of conviction’ by his side and his words were ‘without ill will’ to anyone.

Shah Rukh, who is courting controversy for favouring Pakistani cricketers’ inclusion in the Indian Premier League (IPL) – a stand which has cast a shadow over the release of his film ‘My Name Is Khan’, in his tweet has also asked why there should be a demarcation between countries ‘in fields of art, sports, culture and otherwise normal things?’

‘I have no ego or false sense of pride. My words have been benign and without ill will to any person (s) or my nation. I have the courage of conviction by my side. I explain because (it is) better to do that than create aggression and division in my country,’ Shah Rukh posted on his Twitter page.

‘There are good and bad people in all groups or places. For the acts of bad by some, we cannot generalise on grounds of physical boundaries. We have bad people in India, Pakistan and everywhere else. Nobody, including me, stands by anyone who is bad or resorts to inhuman acts.

‘Why should we have this demarcation permeate in fields of art, sports, culture and otherwise normal things? Is that a wrong way to think?’

He said that art and culture should be kept away from politics.

‘I think these conspiracy theories on art, sports etc being used to fund untoward activities is completely off the mark. Writing all this so that I know that I haven’t really said anything bad in the last few days to anyone and it is clear now and not muddled.

‘Am I getting paranoid of my own words and interviews. My English teacher told me not to write too much… wife says not to say too much.

‘Absolutely last thought (In 3 parts of course): (1) appeal to all to understand that Mumbai is the gateway of India to the world. 2. Film industry is India’s cultural ambassador all around the globe. All of us have the responsibility to protect the fair name of Mumbai… 3. Mumbai’s legendary film industry and its spirit of pluralism and tolerance. I do this all around the world and can do so wherever needed.’

Shah Rukh is currently in Berlin along with co-star Kajol and director Karan Johar to attend the screening of ‘My Name Is Khan’ at the Berlin film festival.

‘Thanks all around the world for listening to me. I hope it finds its way to goodness of heart in Mumbai. Now better go and do press stuff here (Berlin). Love u all…will meet again. Next time round will be happy I hope and will tell you about the Berlinale. Thanx once again for listening.’

Shah Rukh enjoys a huge fan following in Germany and the tickets of his film ‘My Name Is Khan’ were sold online in just five minutes online. According the festival director, the film is going to be bigger draw here than his last release ‘Om Shanti Om’.
