I can't just be known as Saira's mom or Mahesh's wife

Actress Lara Dutta, who gave birth to daughter Saira earlier this year, says motherhood has become her parameter for choosing any new project.

"I think for me, motherhood has definitely and completely become the biggest parameter, the biggest measuring scale for the things I want further in life," the 34-year-old said here Thursday at an event of the Columbia Alumni association.

"When it comes to films, be extremely selective about how much time now I want to spend out of the house and, therefore, a script better be really very good before I just try to put my name to it," she added.

However, despite this, motherhood is not impeding her career and Lara, who is married to tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, says it is not possible for her to become a stay-at-home mom.

"I don't think that I am the kind of woman who can stay at home and be known just as Saira's mom or just as Mahesh's wife. I genuinely think that there is lot more that I want to do," Lara said.

Lara turned producer with "Chalo Dilli" in 2011. She wants to produce more such films.

"I do want to produce more films. I think we were extremely lucky to get the first script of our film 'Chalo Dilli' and I was very happy with the fact that it had more content in it than post normal Hindi films. I am going to take a little bit of credit for that. I still want to produce films that are high on content," she said.

Lara to start shooting after daughter's birthday in January

Actress Lara Dutta says she will be back in the studio after celebrating her daughter Saira's first birthday, which is Jan 20 next year.

"Well I am back in January, Bejoy Nambiar's 'David' is out, you will see me in a small little way there. As soon as we are back from the Australian open and Saira's first birthday celebration, I am back in the studios to start shooting a film," the 34-year-old said here Thursday at the launch of a new cooking oil from Fortune.

"I enjoy my work and I have always said that even motherhood or marriage is not going to slow me down.

I enjoy my career, I have to reach places, I am thinking about new ventures. So it's all a part of the work and I love being back at work," she added.

Meanwhile, Lara is currently happy with her body and wants to spend more time with her daughter than in the gym.
"The health of my child and her needs are the most important things for me right now.

So of course, while catering to her I don't want to be spending hours in the gym and losing out time with my daughter," Lara said.

"So it's basically managing what I eat which I have been careful about and getting X amount of exercise in.

I am happy with the way I look right now, I am not at my ideal weight. But by the time I start working at the beginning of next year, I am pretty sure I will," she added.

Lara was last seen in Farhan Akhtar's "Don 2" as Shah Rukh Khan's mole.

"I take a lot of chance. I throw myself off the deep end and sometimes I am terrified doing it. But then I think if I don't take those chances, then it's like nothing ventured and nothing lost. I think I have grown tremendously with all the risks I have taken," Lara said who has worked in movies like "Bhagam Bhag", "No Entry" and "Housefull"

Asked her about the perks of motherhood and she said: "I have unearthed a huge trove of patience, which I never had before. I have always been self-reliant but it has given me so much more confidence. I have travelled with Saira across the world and we have done amazing trips.

For baby, everything's on the backburner: Lara Dutta

From feeding her baby to changing her nappies to singing lullabies, Lara Dutta is busy playing a hands-on mother to her seven-month- old daughter Saira. She says that the rest of the things have taken a backseat as she is enjoying the most satisfying, yet challenging role of her life.

The former beauty queen is so engrossed in nitty-gritty of her domesticity that not only her entire schedule but her conversation too revolves around Saira.

"In all honesty, Saira has become the biggest selection barometer for me to choose on what I want to get back into because it is difficult to spend much time away from her. I would take up a new film only if something is really fantastic and different," Lara, who is married to tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, told in an interview.

"I am putting everything on the backburner, so my baby is my first priority," added the doting mom.

Lara has just wrapped up shooting for Bejoy Nambiar's "David" and says she chose to be a part of the film as it didn't require her to work more and at the same time it was different from what she has done so far.

"My role in 'David' was not massive in terms of screen time, but it was challenging as I hadn't done anything like that and so I agreed to be a part of it," she said.

The actress says motherhood is challenging but fun.

"Motherhood is great and challenging at the same time. It is thoroughly rewarding too. Saira is a wonderful baby to have. You start getting the hang of it just a week after becoming a mother," said the 34-year-old.

The model-turned-actress won the Miss Universe title in 2000 and three years later made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with "Andaaz" and went on to do films like "Masti", "No Entry", "Housefull" and "Don 2". She married tennis champion Mahesh Bhupathi in February last year.
In the quest to strike a balance between being a wife and a mother, Lara tries to be herself too.

"Though I am a mother, wife, at the same time I am also my own person. For me, to be able to work, be a mother, and enjoy motherhood is also important," she said.

The actress is on road to lose the post-baby flab though she admits it would not be an easy job.

"To get back into shape is difficult for any new mother as you have to be strict in your diet and workout. But for me the criterion was never that I have to lose weight in four months or five months," she said.

"So I haven't lost all the weight that I had put on, but I am happy and know that I am on the right track," she said adding there is no short cut to lose post-pregnancy weight.

"Some women are genetically blessed and after delivery they are back to wearing jeans, but for us Indian women we are not blessed like that; so you have to watch what you eat but not at the cost of your health as you are feeding a baby," she added.

Meanwhile, after "Chalo Dilli", she is now working on two scripts, which will again be produced by her under banner Bheegi Basanti Productions.

Lara Dutta is Pregnant

Looks like it is baby time in Bollywood as after actress Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan’s recent announcement of her pregnancy, speculations are rife about the other Bunt babe from Bollywood, actor Shilpa Shetty.

Lara Dutta is PregnantHowever, she’s not alone as grapevine is abuzz with news that the Bollywood actress turned film producer, Lara Dutta who recently wed tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi early this year, too is in the family way.

Says a source close to the couple, “Lara and Mahesh have always taken things as they come. Though they have been busy with their respective work, they feel it’s the right time to have a kid. Besides, Lara has just finished shooting for Don 2, and is working on her next home production now. She may orshe may notfeaturein her next film.”

Since it’s still in the early stages, the couple will apparently make the announcement only when they feel it’s the right time for it. “It is considered inauspicious to speak about the pregnancy until it’s completed three months. Right now they are really hush-hush about the entire thing and do not want too many people’s attention,” says the source.

Dutta reveals her perfectionist side

Lara Dutta reveals her perfectionist sidePost her shaadi, actress Lara Dutta seems to be on her way to increasingly becoming a perfectionist. A source close to the actress says that Dutta had looked after almost every detail for the music launch of her upcoming film. Says the source,

"We don't know if it has anything to do with marriage per se, but we've all observed that Dutta has become a perfectionist of late. She wants to be kept in the loop and she thinks a lot before giving the go ahead for anything. She's become a strategist of sorts." And another source tells us that the team of her upcoming film witnessed a similar side of the actor during the filming of a shot.

Apparently, a scene required Dutta to wear a jacket and the actor made it a point to source one all the way from London! "She was emphasizing on the importance of authenticity. And since this was Dutta's maiden production venture, nothing could stop her from going that extra mile, or spending that extra buck.

Dutta initially looked for a jacket that would blend with her character and the scene (in local stores). She even called her fashion conscious friends to see if they had a suitable jacket. But then she logged on to the internet and stumbled upon the one she was looking for. It was only later that she learnt that the jacket had to be called in from the UK," says the source explaining the chain of events.

The jacket apparently brought a smile to the actress's face and she was on cloud nine when she saw the final shot. Well, there are some added advantages of being the producer of your own film, right?

Vinay Pathak: Dutta underused as an actor

Actor Vinay Pathak, who has gained appreciable success with his offbeat films, is upset that his `Chalo Dilli` co-star Lara Dutta`s potential has not been fully utilised by the industry.

Vinay Pathak: Dutta underused as an actor"I am not a commercial celebrity. It`s a fantastic opportunity for me to work with Lara. She is a fabulous actor, very underused in our industry. She has done some wonderful roles, but she is yet to be exploited," Vinay told reporters.

"I am ecstatic about that fact that we came together to work on a story and a film that has given ample opportunity to both of us to indulge in what we know the best," he added. But isn`t it an odd pair on screen?

"It`s a story of an odd couple that`s why we have come together. The story requires such imagery and such characterisation, hence such actors," said Vinay, who is working for the second time with director Shahant Shah after his critically acclaimed `Dasvidaniya`. Produced by Eros International in association with Big Daddy Production, `Chalo Dilli` is set to hit the theatres April 29.

Lara Dutta sings an unique tune

Lara Dutta sings an unique tuneShe's finished stunts underwater, pulled off some greatly memorable scenes and even moved toward getting hitched in the middle of an excited swarm of paparazzi! Yet, Lara Dutta isn’t as courageous as she appears. Truth be told, the performer has a quite ladylike fear—cockroaches! The precise sight of one of these frightening little things gives Lara shivers down the spine, a partner near the character discloses.

So, envision Lara's unpleasantness when she had to do a scene—with a cockroach—for her picture Chalo Dilli! While the careful portions of the scene remain indistinct, our cause declares that it other side Lara alarmed out of her wits—and that something greater than one cockroach was included.

“Lara was petrified,” declares our origin, joining that the scenario got worse for the character when an unit part chose to take on an ideal trick on her. “Seeing how startled she was, a part of the team took it into his head to hurl a plastic cockroach at her. And then Lara, who generally is exceptionally held and regulated, got so unnerved that she fundamentally

bounced and ran haphazard, screeching at the top of her lungs. It was a side of Lara we had never viewed ever. She is invariably so cultured, but this once, her dread actually got the preferable of her,” her companion expresss. While her mate cannot reveal advance items, for the sake of the hapless team part, we do trust Lara kept her insight into humour in spite of getting the dismay of her essence. Moreover, it does make us wonder if Mahesh Bhupathi had to squash any of the proposed unpleasant little things to win Lara's heart and hand?
