Bipasha Basu - ‘Rana astonished us with his diction’

She strolls in brandishing a flower printed summer dress, with wooden and beaded wristbands beautifying her wrists, looking each spot the element of a chipper Goan young lady from her most cutting edge picture Dum Maaro Dum. “You will disregard Bipasha Basu. It's my element Zoe that you will recall,” she states with a grin, settling down to talk.

Bipasha Basu - ‘Rana astonished us with his diction’

Dum Maaro Dum carries her over on screen with her Dhoom 2 co-star Abhishek Bachchan. Once more, she is not thrown inverse Abhishek but with Rana Daggubati. “There's a brand new feel to the picture in light of the science in the middle of me and Rana. When Rohan told me a South Indian performing artist will go for the Goan artist, I was diverted. I wondered if he'd have the ability to get the lingual authority right. Rana astonished us. He knew not just his lines, but moreover my lines and each different performer's discoursed,” declares Bipasha.

She is at ease, she says, working with relatively new actors. “I worked with John in his first film. I worked with Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseeno after his first film was a box office debacle. Neil Nitin Mukesh didn't have a great start with Johnny Gaddar but I did Aa Dekhe Zara with him. If I like a film, the set up and director I am game. In fact, Abhishek and I liked working with Rana and Prateik who have a high level of interest towards work,” she says.

She likes to call Dum Maaro Dum a new age thriller. “There are three pivotal stories — that of Abhishek, Prateik, and Rana and me — that intertwine. The tagline ‘kya hai kahani tere paap ki?' says it all. Each one of us has done something in the past and we pay for our sins. Using Goa as a backdrop has added flavour to the characters. The film explores the drug underbelly of Goa. As Zoe, I am an upbeat girl who represents the spirit of the touristy Goa we all know. I like the way Rohan has used a bit of Konkani and old Portugese music in the background,” she shares.

If she is seen in fewer movies nowadays, she doesn't make excuses of ‘being choosy' or ‘selective': “In the last six years, I've been doing only three movies a year. If I take up more work, I'd die of exhaustion. I am busy with endorsements, events, fitness DVDs, shows, movies and looking after my house. I cannot just spend my life working. I love to live life.” After 10 years of acting, Bipasha is ready for newer challenges. “I moved to acting because I got bored of modelling. I never went to an acting school. Recently, I did a few workshops for my English film, Singularity, directed by Rolland Joffe. I never went out of my way to try and work in an English film and was happy when the offer came to me. Working under Rolland is a dream and I am learning a lot. I am a Maratha warrior, a bodyguard to the Indian queen, who falls in love with a British soldier. The film is an action drama with a beautiful story,” she says.

Book Madhuri for Rs. 5 Crores

After a long hibernation Madhuri Dixit is all set to make a comeback despite being at the age of 40. However, what’s surprising everyone is that the yesteryear superstar is demanding Rs 5 Crores for a film. The price she is demanding is even more than what today’s ruling divas like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra are commanding.

Book Madhuri for Rs. 5 CroresShe gave her last hit ‘Devdas’ which was eight years ago and the movie was a multi-starrer that had Shahrukh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan increasing its commercial viability. We can say without any doubt that today also Madhuri has name, fame and huge fan following but still no filmmaker will give her the quoted price. Also another thing to consider here is that her comeback film ‘Aaja Nachle’ in 2007 was a complete box office washout.

It is heard that Mrs. Nene has at least four filmmakers who approached her with scripts but she does not want to negotiate on her remuneration. Her manager Rikku Rakesh Nath revealed, "Yes, Madhuri has asked for five crores. We feel she is definitely worth the price she is quoting. She is a superstar with an enviable fan following even today. So, why shouldn't she ask for what she deserves? We are sure the filmmakers will gain from the fact that Madhuri Dixit is making a film with them."

Taking about Madhuri’s quoted price a trade analyst said, "Who will give Madhuri five Crores now? Though she does have the fan base, she isn't a top actress anymore. She has been out of the industry and the kinds of roles she can do are limited. The roles that she has been approached to play are either sister or mother characters, which she is not too keen to play. She should learn from Amitabh Bachchan. A superstar, who still has roles specially written for him, isn't demanding that his pay cheque match that of Aamir, Salman, Akshay or SRK. Madhuri needs a reality check. In case someone has a particular script in which only she fits, perhaps she will get the high price."

Life has come full circle for David Dhawan. He debuted as a director with Taqatwar starring Sanjay Dutt. On Monday, he took the first shot of Sanju's son Shahraan for Rascals.

"He's barely five months old but is very comfortable on the sets. He's at Mehboob Studios every evening with his two nannies and spends time on Sanju's, David's and Lisa Haydon's laps until wrap- up."

In fact, when producer Indra Kumar showed up on the sets to get Sanju's dates for Dhamaal 2, he was struck by the li'l one's looks and resemblance to Sanju.

He jokingly said he'd give a signing amount for Shahraan at that moment, sensing he had the makings of a star.

"Not one to be outdone, Dhawan piped in to point out that Rascals was a Dutt Production and he was directing. Why let anyone else direct Shahraan for his first shot?

He quickly took an impromptu shot of Shahraan on Dutt's lap, stating he'd use it somewhere in the film either during opening or end credits."

Says David, "I love having Shahraan on the sets. I want to see him every day now. He reminds me so much of Sanju in his looks, eyes and persona. He looks exactly like his father."

Filipino movie premiere goes Bollywood

ROBIN Padilla made a deal with wife Mariel Rodriguez that they will put off having a baby for at least two years, so they can fully, truly enjoy each other’s company. However, the couple recently unveiled their first offspring—“Tum: My Pledge of Love,” a movie made in India, during their much-publicized honeymoon last year.

Filipino movie premiere goes BollywoodA red-carpet event held on Monday night at the Rockwell Powerplant Mall in Makati hewed closely to the Bollywood theme. Guests came in Indian costumes, including Mariel’s grandparents, May and Raffy. Approaching Lola May, Robin quipped, ever-so-gallantly: “’Di ko po kayo nakilala. Akala ko’y isa kayong prinsesa mula sa India. (I didn’t recognize you. I thought you were an Indian princess.

Robin’s mom, Eva Cariño, turned up in a modish sari, like his daughters Queenie and Kylie and his sister Rema Padilla-Ohno. Before the gala screening, Queenie, who appears in the film with her dad and stepmom, showed off her belly-dancing skills, with the Alala and Snake Charmerz dancers. The premiere also gathered the other costars, including Bing Loyzaga, Ejay Falcon, Kat Alano and Rich Herrera.

Show biz friends likewise graced the event: Mark Gil, Pokwang, Maja Salvador, Bianca Manalo, Empress Schuck, Christine Bersola and Julius Babao, Jun de Leon and Abbygale Arenas, Cathy Garcia-Molina, Bianca Gonzales, Diether Ocampo and Mariel’s manager, Boy Abunda. Also present was producer Sameer Raza.

“Tum,” Robin explained, means “you” in Hindi. The film, he said, is an “ode to love and lovers.”Also before the screening, Robin and Mariel addressed the audience in a routine that echoed classic Dolphy-Panchito shtick: Robin spoke in eloquent Tagalog which Mariel translated to English. They stumbled on just one phrase, “pinagyayabong na pag-ibig,” translating it as “exploding love.” Robin’s take was just as perplexing: “Connivance.”The couple’s comic chemistry was also evident in the film, which was written and directed by Robin.

“We were inspired during the shoot,” said Mariel, who also served as cameraman. The movie, which opens April 6 in theaters, showcases the beauty of Alipur, India—a place that Robin loves deeply. “We shot in the mountains, in remote areas,” Robin recalled.

Included in the film is footage of the couple’s controversial wedding held near Taj Mahal. Robin also set key scenes in Noble School, which serves as model for his own Liwanag ng Kapayapaan Foundation. Some Indian friends were in the cast as well. The premiere was largely a family affair.

Robin’s brother Rommel said he worked on the film behind-the-scenes. “We set up a post-production company, RCP Studios,” Rommel said. “I handled sound. We hope to show the film in India, too.”

Sonam Kapoor in Tamil remake of Dabangg

Sonam Kapoor in Tamil remake of DabanggSonam is being considered for the female lead in the Tamil remake of Dabangg after the original actress, Sonakshi Sinha refused the role.

The Dabangg fever seems to have caught the nation in a big way. While Bollywood is all set to make a sequel to Dabangg , South film industry is high on remaking the film. The Telugu remake will star Pawan Kalyan and the Tamil remake will star Simbu ( Silambarasan).

Interestingly while South superstars will play Salman Khan's character, for the female lead they seem to be looking for a Bollywood face. The actress from the original, Sonakshi Sinha was offered the Tamil remake but she refused. Subsequently there were stories that Katrina Kaif might do the film, since she has already worked in some South films.

However now the role has gone to Sonam Kapoor and the actress seems to be giving it a serious thought. An entry in the South film industry means more money and more fame. So if all goes well, Sonam might recreate Sonakshi's part in the Tamil Dabangg . A source adds, "There was also buzz that the gorgeous South actress Kajal Aggarwal was being considered but Simbu insisted the makers to replace her with Sonam".

Incidentally not many might be aware that Sonam's father Anil Kapoor started his career with a South film (Kannada) called Pallavi Anu Pallavi which also marked the debut of Mani Ratnam as a director.

Tanu Weds Manu in German version

You may think that the hardcore desi small-town ambience of this season's surprise hit Tanu Weds Manu is unlikely to go down well with foreign audiences. But hang on. Now there will be a dubbed German version of the romantic comedy.

Tanu Weds Manu in German versionA delegation from Germany landed in Mumbai last week with the express purpose of seeing the new festive hit of Bollywood. So bowled over were the Germans by the unabashed celebration of colour and gaiety in Tanu Weds Manu that now a German version of the film is being prepared.

'It was a group of students of Comparative Cinema from the University of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany. My colleague fellow-filmmaker Hansal Mehta sent these students to me. I was surprised that they wanted to see Tanu Weds Manu, and even more surprised at the way they responded to the film,' said director Aanand Rai.

The film stars R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut as two people who are poles apart but still they fall in love. Apparently the German students were keenly curious about the most minute nuances in the film. 'They asked questions about the wedding proceedings that even I had never asked myself. It was just so reassuring to know that my film about small town culture connected so deeply with them,' said Rai.

The German delegation has returned home and has immediately initiated plans to release Tanu Weds Manu in a dubbed German version. 'Tanu Weds Manu is making inroads in places where Bollywood cinema is not a priority. I suppose my honesty of purpose showed up on screen,' said the excited director.

Aamir's accomplishments demonstrate why he's 'Mr Perfectionist'

Aamir's accomplishments demonstrate why he's 'Mr Perfectionist'Though he achieved instant stardom with his fully fledged debut in the blockbuster Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, he already debuted as a child star in Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak earned him the Filmfare Best Debut Award while, in 1996, he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Raja Hindustani after six previous nominations. After losing out for the best-actor award for his role in Rangeela in 1995, Khan decided not to attend any award ceremonies. Khan married his childhood sweetheart, Reena, in 1986 and together they had two children, Junaid and Ira.

In 2002, Khan stunned the world when he suddenly divorced Reena and became romantically involved with Kiran Rao, the assistant director of the Oscar-nominated Lagaan, another movie for which he scooped the Filmfare Best Actor Award. Lagaanpremiered at Sun City in South Africa in 2001.

Khan ventured into production and produced other blockbusters such as Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Peepli Live and Dhobi Ghat. When Khan turned director with Taare Zameen Par in 2007, he made headlines after a fallout with Anmol Gupte, the original director of the movie. Khan took over the reigns and made a masterpiece.

In 2007, the actor turned down an opportunity to have his wax statue showcased at the prestigious Madam Tussauds museum in London. He also made big news a year later when he blogged that his dog, Shahrukh, was licking his feet.

Khan has delivered some of Indian cinema's biggest hits, including Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Ghajini and record-holder 3 Idiots. His forthcoming projects include an untitled project with Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor and Dhoom 3 with Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra.

Remo keen on Directing Madhuri

Remo keen on Directing MadhuriAce choreographer-turned director Remo D'souza, who judged hit television dance reality show 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' alongside Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit is keen on making a broadway musical with the veteran actress.

"My next film will be out and out musical. It is in the scripting stage. I would love to cast Madhuri.I would take the script to her," Remo said in an interview. Madhuri had made a comeback of sorts with Yash Raj's 'Aaja Nachle', which was also a dance musical. However, the movie failed to create magic at the box office.

Remo said like every other small town boy he also dreamt of seeing Madhuri and intended to work with her. "I came to Mumbai tried meeting her several times but failed. And, suddenly there is a show where she is my co-judge. In the finale of 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' I choreographed Madhuri...it was a dream come true. I always wanted to choreograph her," the 36-year-old whose forte is Hip-Hop, said.

On the movie, he said, "It will be unlike the way we generally see in our Hindi films. It will be a Broadway styled musical in which characters express themselves through dance and song instead of dialogues.""Once the script is over we would finalise the actors. The film will go on floors in May or June," Remo said.

Remo, who became a household name with another dance reality show 'Dance India Dance', makes his debut as a director with Vashu Bhagnani's 'Faltu' starring Riteish Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani, Arshad Warsi and Miss India Puja Gupta.

Sonakshi maintained her silence

Sonakshi maintained her silenceAlthough Sonakshi Sinha has been signed on opposite Kamal Haasan, a living legend, for director Selvaraghavan’s next film, she has maintained her silence about it for quite some time. Now when it is out in the open that she is indeed the heroine in the movie, which is said to be a remake of Hollywood film Hannibal, Sonakshi has again maintained her reservations for working with this veteran actor. She has clearly rejected doing intimate kisses and steamy scenes with the actor, disappointing the script which had a few intimate scenes.

However, knowing that she does not have the flair for Tamil and Telegu language, Shatrughan Sinha has been giving her some advice on how to cover that up by being natural onscreen.

A source revealed, Sonakshi was the first and last choice for the role because the Kamal Hassan was mighty impressed by her village belle act in Dabangg. So, a few cuts and chops didn't make much difference but the star cast remained the same. On being asked about her 33 years age difference with the actor, Sonakshi said "Once you are on the sets in front of the camera, your age should not matter. I will be respectful but an equal on the sets with Kamal Haasan."

Right now she plans to watch Kamal Haasan's movie Hey Ram and minutely study Vasundhara Das who had also played the role his wife in that movie. The Sinha girl is seeming to be taking full advantage of her lineage and a successful debut and her silences and reservations are being taken care of. What else can she ask for?

In the first half he will adopt a formal look and a funky look in the second half. A source stated “Imran plays a rigid, conservative and fussy architect in the film, who falls in love with Kareena Kapoor, a liaison which changes him completely.”
